Weekly Rundown- Priorities

Hello!  Welcome to the Weekly Rundown, where I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah.  This was a busy week with a lot of activities and concerts for my daughter.  It was all about setting (and re-setting) priorities. I got in some good miles in my Altra Timps, which I’m trying to get used to, and cautiously planning to wear for my race at the end of the month.   Let’s just see how the week went… Sunday 13 mile trail run!  For this run, I ran a few miles in my regular shoes (the Altra FWDs) then switched to the Timps (zero drop) for a few miles, then switched back to the FWDs.  The Timps felt great!  I didn’t want to stop and change shoes when I was feeling so good, but I didn’t want to overdo it with the zero drops. Monday Remember how my back was hurting last week?  I suspect it was from one of the Sally McRae workouts I was doing, that had a lot of single leg RDLs.  It’s possible I was so focused on keeping my balance, that I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the position of my back. At this point, I have to focus on getting two more long runs done before my race on the 26th, and I’m not doing anything to jeopardize that.  I picked a Sally McRae workout that I knew wouldn’t strain my back- Mobility and Strength for Calves, Ankles and Feet- and paired it with my favorite core workout, the Caroline Girvan Deadbugs.. Tuesday Early morning 4 mile run!  I wore the Timps for the whole run, and it felt good.  Followed this run with deadbugs once again. Wednesday Gym day!  I did 20 minutes on the Stairmaster (sigh) and then squats, bench press, reverse fly, and abs.  Good workout!  The squats hurt my back a tiny bit, but it was manageable. Thursday Another 4 mile run in the Timps, and this run felt harder than normal.  Hmm.  I followed it with the deadbug workout again. Friday I did a Sally McRae- Total Body Workout with Dumbbells.  Good workout- lots of balance work but no one leg RDLs.  My back is feeling pretty good! The rest of me was feeling a little “meh” though.  I felt like I was fighting off a cold, and I think that’s why the Thursday run was harder than usual. Saturday Off!  We got home late on Friday night from a band concert, so I was very grateful to be able to sleep till 7:00 before going to work.  Still feeling a little off, but it’s time to gear up for… Sunday On tap for today- 17 mile long run!  This feels like a huge jump to me- 13 miles is kind of long, and 17 miles gets into the “truly long” category.  I’m planning to run about half of it in the Timps.  This run is important, because after this I’ll only have time for one more long run before my race.  This is one of those runs where I just have to show up, hope for the best, and see how it all shakes out (why do I have the feeling I’ll be saying the same thing about my race in three weeks???) How was your week?  Are you swamped with extra events right now? Is it finally spring where you live?  – It’s hot and humid here, summer has started.
