Weekly Rundown- Embracing the Heat

Hi there! As always, I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Rundown (thanks, ladies!) This week I had some surprising runs, continued with the Caroline Girvan Iron Series, and discovered a new (to me) yoga routine. Let’s get into it! Sunday The first thing I did when I got up was an Iron Series workout- Day #19, full body. Later in the day I walked for one hour while I talked to my son on the phone! Monday In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for psoas. There’s still something wonky with my psoas/knee on the left side, and I’m hoping yoga will cure it. I had a run scheduled for later in the day. It was 90 degrees, but I just didn’t feel like going to the gym and getting on the treadmill. So I decided to run outside… and it wasn’t that bad! I mean, it was hot, but it didn’t bother me that much. WHO AM I??? I returned home extremely sweaty, chugged ice water with LMNT, and actually felt pretty great. I have no idea what’s going on, but I like it. Tuesday In the morning I did Iron Series Day #20, arms and core. The funny thing is, I remember this one from last time I did this series, and thought I liked it. WAS I INSANE??? This was terrible! I almost killed myself during the plank sequence. Lots of great tricep work though, which I obviously need. Later in the day I thought, “yesterday’s run went so well- why don’t I try it again?” HA. I started off, and it was very overcast… About a mile in, it started to rain. AND, I felt some weird twinges in my right calf. Nothing terrible, but I’m very sensitive/paranoid about calf pain, because I’ve had issues in the past. A mile later, the rain had turned into a downpour and I could hear thunder. Everything conspired to end this run at 3 miles. Wednesday In the middle of the night, I got up to go to the bathroom. I could feel the left psoas, the calf, and a strained muscle in my side (thanks a lot, planks) and I thought, maybe it’s time for a day off! I pulled up a “deep stretch” Adriene video. It was 45 minutes, as opposed to the 15-20 minute yoga routines I usually do. I really liked it! Need to do this one more often. Thursday In the morning I did yoga for psoas. Later in the day I had another hot 4 mile run. Again, I felt great! One little twinge in my calf but it was otherwise okay. Friday In the morning- yoga for lower back pain. Later in the day, Iron Series Day #21. This was supersets of lunges and step ups. I haven’t done step ups in years, and this was a good way to get back into them. The lunges were weighted, but the step ups were bodyweight only. Very challenging workout! Saturday Oh boy. I feel those step ups in my glutes! I worked in the morning, came home and napped, and headed to the gym in the late afternoon. I’ve discovered this is one of the least crowded times to hit the gym. I had Iron Series Day #22 on tap, chest and back. This was my first time doing one of these workouts at the gym, and it worked great! I had all my stuff set up, put my earbuds in and played the workout on my phone. THEN, I got on the treadmill for a run! 3 miles and I threw in some faster intervals. And then I ended with core. I really enjoyed this- I wish the gym were this empty all the time. Sunday Hmm. Next up in the Iron Series is glutes and hamstrings, but my glutes are still pretty sore from those step ups, so we’ll see. I might just do Adriene’s deep stretch video again. How was your week? Is it hot where you are? It’s full-on summer here. Top photo by Autumn Kuney on Unsplash
