Life

Time seems to be going very slowly, and that’s a good thing! We’re just finishing the second week of school. So far, Angie is really leaning into her senior year experience. I remember that from high school- being seniors together is a special bonding experience with the kids you’ve been friends with through the years. She’s enjoying it. Also, it’s been a week of goodbyes, as the college kids are leaving! Lots of last hangouts and helping people pack. LUCKILY, Angie’s boyfriend is staying home and going to FAU (Florida Atlantic University, right in our town). It would be so sad if we were saying goodbye to him as well! On a completely unrelated note, Angie is also thinking of going to FAU next year. Hahaha… okay, that’s not unrelated at all. But it’s not only because of her boyfriend- her best friend also wants to go to FAU. I’m all for it! I’m encouraging her to keep her options open, but if she ends up at FAU, I’ll be happy. So what else is happening? WELL, we got the new oven and I MADE A DINNER. It was on Sunday, and I got motivated to look at Nora Cooks.. Her meals are usually easy, and we like them. I decided to make Easy Chickpea Curry. I added tofu and broccoli and left out the spinach, but otherwise kept to the recipe. It was good! Angie liked it well enough to eat it on Sunday, AND have leftovers the next day. I haven’t cooked since- I think once a week is a good schedule for me. Now I’m going to share a sleep hack. Have you ever heard of ear plugs? Okay, just kidding. Everyone’s heard of them. When I was at my sister’s this summer she convinced me to try them, and WOW. Wearing ear plugs has helped my sleep SO MUCH! It’s actually crazy that I’ve never used them. I mean- I sleep in a bed with another person, I have three cats who occasionally meow in the middle of the night, and a teenage daughter who has an irregular sleep schedule (I did the same thing when I was her age, so I don’t try to impose a schedule on her). Of course I need ear plugs! Between the ear plugs and having a fan blowing directly on me, I feel like I’m inching closer and closer to a perfect night of sleep. Still not quite there, but I’m working on it. The other day I was cleaning out the guinea pig cage. Remember them? I haven’t mentioned them in a while. Anyway, Nutmeg was looking so cute that I took a photo of her. Her sister, Cinnamon, was hiding, but I’ll get a photo of her soon. To be honest, they’re not very affectionate pets- in the wild, they have a lot of natural predators so they don’t like being picked up- but they sure are cute. Have you ever had guinea pigs? Do you sleep with ear plugs? Do you have any sleep hacks? Top Photo by Mohamed Nohassi on Unsplash
