Weekly Rundown- Lots of Life-ing

Well, this week was… baffling. Lots of ups and downs (but nothing tragic). Some minor pains and a few good workouts… I guess it was just a week of living life! I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah for this Weekly Rundown. Here we go…. Sunday 4 mile run! Everything felt good, other than a little stiffness in my low back. Hmm, I wonder what that’s all about? Monday Arg! My back feels like crap. I did an upper body strength session at home, and that made it worse. It was a hard day at work. When this happens, it’s the muscles of my low back on the right side- they get very achy. After work I went for a 40 minute walk, and at night I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. Motion is lotion, right? Tuesday 10 mile trail run! I was a little cranky on this run (not going to belabor the point, but I had just found out my March race was canceled, and my daughter was having a difficult day). It was hot. But I did it, and it always feels better to run. At night- Adriene’s runner’s yoga. Wednesday 5 mile run. It was cloudy almost the whole time, and it made this run about 100 times easier than yesterday’s. At night- hip stability exercises. Thursday Ah. I had plans for this morning! I was determined to go to the gym before work. But then I found out my daughter was going to school late (don’t even ask why- there’s always a Valid Reason). It didn’t make sense to go to the gym, come back home, get my daughter, take her to school, and THEN go to work- so I just did another workout at home. But! I did have a small triumph. I’ve been doing shoulder press with 15 lb dumbbells (alright- stop snickering, all you bodybuilders!) I recently realized I could increase the weight, so I was going to use the 17.5 lb dumbbells at the gym. Since I was at home, I only had 20s so I tried those… and I could do it! I GOT STRONGER!!! I know this, because I tried 20s at the gym a while ago and couldn’t do it. Boy… that felt good. Unfortunately, my back still does NOT feel good. After work, I did a 45 minute walk in the hopes of loosening it up. Friday 4.5 mile treadmill run, with some speedier intervals thrown in. Saturday Finally, a strength workout at the gym! Sadly, there was no way in the world I was going to risk back squats- good thing I’ve discovered the leg press machine! I also did some upper body. Then I had a long day at work. Moving forward… I don’t think it’s working to go to the gym on Saturday mornings. When I ran on Saturday mornings, I went to work feeling invigorated. Lifting weights leaves me a little too tired for a long, physical day. But! I got home in time to see the second half of the Baylor/Auburn game. It was a great game- unfortunately Baylor lost by one point in the last few seconds by going for a two-point conversion and missing it by inches. Coincidentally, this is exactly how our high school team lost the first game of the season. I hope this isn’t some kind of theme for the year! If the Dolphins lose their first game the same way, we’ll know something really weird is going on. The cats joined me on the couch for the game, and it was raining outside. Could this be any more cozy??? Sunday On tap for today… definitely sleeping in. Then, pumpkin oatmeal in my pumpkin bowl and tea in my pumpkin mug. THE SEASON HAS STARTED. Later in the day- running. How was your week?  Are you excited for college football? Can I get a low back transplant? Wait. No, not a serious question.
