Well… this was kind of a frustrating week. But guess what? Life goes on, and we have to keep moving, right? I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah for this weekly rundown. Here’s how it went…
Monday
Monday always used to be a day off, but lately I’ve been doing a shorter yoga flow class on the Peloton app. This Monday was no different- 30 minute yoga flow with my favorite, Denis Morton.
Tuesday
Well, arg.
I started off with a 30 minute pool run…
….after which I decided I really, really needed an actual run for my mental health. So I got out of the pool, put on my running shoes, did some lunges and hip circles and went out for what I was hoping would be a short run.
You know how sometimes you’re running, and something kind of hurts but you can just tell that it’s okay to keep going? Well, this was not one of those times. I’ve run so many times with this foot just hurting slightly, but within the first few steps of this one I just knew that it was a big, fat “NO.” I don’t think my foot has ever hurt this much while running. I was pretty surprised, because I had just had a full week off, and I thought whatever current flare-up I was having would have subsided. Not this time! Looking on the bright side, at least I knew that getting the MRI was the absolute correct next step.
I tried to console myself by doing a 20 minute power yoga class- it helped.
Wednesday
Hoping to get the day started off right, I did a 60 minute yoga flow class in the morning, again on the Peloton app with my favorite teacher, Denis.
In the afternoon I had my MRI. Wouldn’t it be nice to get the results ASAP? Ha!
Thursday
More yoga! A 45 minute power class, and this was another good one that I’ll come back to. Lots of side planks and half moons… just what my legs need.
Friday
Even though on Wednesday I felt like I was done with pool running, I convinced myself to get back in this morning. My legs were actually a little sore from the yoga and I just figured I could get in the pool once more.
After a 40 minute pool run, I did an easy 10 minute yoga flow class.
Now wait a minute! Shouldn’t I get the results of my MRI by now??? I called the doctor, talked to the receptionist who said that yes, they got the results and the doctor would call me later to talk it over. I waited all day, didn’t get a call, finally called them back only to find that they were gone for the weekend. Perfect.
Saturday
Another 45 minute power yoga class with Denis. This one started off slowly- well, it IS yoga, it’s not going to start with jumping jacks, but it seemed even slower than usual- and at first I worried that it wouldn’t give me what I was looking for. But I was WRONG! He did a lot of lunge work- holding a high lunge, then lowering the back knee to the floor, repeatedly- then several Warrior 3s. By the last one my legs were trembling. Good class!
At night we watched the Baylor game, which they very sadly lost- but we had fun eating veggie burgers and fries, and I drank one of these, which Wendy mentioned last week in the comments:
I loved it! My husband and I both thought it tasted more like beer than the non-alcoholic beer we tried the week before. I’m getting more of these!
Sunday
As much as I love Denis Morton’s yoga classes, there’s one thing he doesn’t have- a really long one. The longest class Denis has is 60 minutes, but I noticed there were some 75 minute classes on the app and wanted to try one of those. So I did Kristin McGee’s 75 minute “Bring the Heat” power yoga class. It was a good, challenging class, but I missed Denis. I’m just used to the way he runs his class. The plan for later today is to get out for a walk (if possible, sigh) or pool run… I’m needing a cardio fix.
So that was the week! I have a recommendation for ANOTHER doctor, from someone who says this guy cured her plantar fasciitis. We’ll see! The one thing I’ve learned about PF is that everyone has a different miracle cure, that only worked for them. But… I’ll get the results of the MRI (when I call the current doctor to yell at him) and I’ll go from there. Onward!
How are you liking these dark mornings? –Ha, it sure makes things more challenging, right?
Do you like yoga? – I used to think yoga was a lot of stretching and meditation. HA! I got a big surprise when I attended my first power yoga class.

I am so sorry the foot is even worse — and even more so that the dr never actually called, although with my interactions with my mom’s drs — sometimes when it’s quite serious — I am not the least bit surprised — but very sorry. It’s beyond frustrating! Big, big hugs Jenny.
I have my own thoughts on power yoga, but you didn’t actually ask me so I’ll keep quiet. 🙂
Thank you Judy! I appreciate it. I could guess at your thoughts about power yoga. You’ll notice that I do mix it up- sometimes a power class, sometimes a regular flow. But someday I’d be interested in talking about it with you. Sometimes I feel like a huge yoga faker- I really don’t have that much experience with it.
Sorry for your foot. Take care.
You are right, running is important for the mental health. This is not an easy period for me, my family and running are the best cure!
I like a lot these dark mornings.
Never tried yoga. I followed a postural course but now no more because I cannot use the injured arm as before.
Yes, I think it would be hard to do yoga with an injured arm. Glad you’re able to run… it’s the best therapy I know of.
Oh no on the foot! So sorry to hear this. I’m sorry things hurt so badly, but kudos to you for not pressing on in hopes for it to subside. Hugs to you <3
Thank you!!!!! I know I push things too far sometimes, but this was not one of those times. My foot really let me know it was important to stop.
This is a bummer 🙁 I’m really sorry to hear about your foot and I can imagine this is so frustrating for you. I really hope that the new doctor is able to help you find the right protocol to help your foot heal.
Thank you Kim! I know there’s an answer out there… I just need to find it.
I’m sorry it felt worse when you tried to run this week! I saw Janae posted something about running barefoot on grass to help her PF. Someone else I know from IG said she found out that one of her toes was the cause of her PF. You are right that its different for everyone! I hope you hear from the dr soon with some info!
Yes, I saw that Janae posted about that! I think if your PF is mild and in the early stages, running barefoot in the grass would be amazing. It’s frustrating because I know I need to strengthen my foot, but can’t go barefoot right now… interesting about the IG story. Yes, I think people have different causes of PF and that’s why there are so many different treatments.
I’m so glad you liked the Hop Tea! I tried another one last week, by Lagunitas. They make hoppy IPAs and this did not disappoint. I love beer, but obviously, I can’t drink it all the time, so these hoppy drinks are my go-to!
On the other hand, I am so sorry that you didn’t get your results. I NEVER do that to my patients, in fact, if they let me know when they are having the test, I will look up the results and call them. I know how it feels to get blown off like that. RUDE
Hang in there, my friend.
Thank you Wendy! Yes, I’m pretty unhappy with this doctor. But anyway- I’m definitely getting more HopTeas! I feel the same way- I love beer but just can’t drink too much these days. This tasted so much like a beer, I felt like I should be getting tipsy- but of course I wasn’t. It was perfect.
Ugh, I hate when doctors leave for the weekend before making that important call about the MRI results! It’s not like anybody is waiting (im)patiently at home to hear back. (insert eyeroll). I do hope you get answers this week.
I am sorry that your foot was still hurting so much that you couldn’t even do the short run that you were craving. Hoping that the yoga sessions made up for it (I have never done a 75 minute session – impressive!).
Thank you San! The 75 minute session really wasn’t bad- it alternated between work, and resting poses. It actually went quickly.
60/75m yoga. EEK. There is no way. I can barely do ten.
BOO on your foot. So frustrating. Hope your friend’s miracle cure works for you
Thanks Cari! I think her “miracle” cure was actually shockwave therapy, which I’ve already tried. But this doctor does other stuff too so I’m pretty sure I’ll try him out.
Oh wow. Shame on the dr who left you hanging all weekend long. Not cool at all. What a bummer your foot is still so painful. I give you so much credit for getting in the pool in the dark. Not easy!
Ha, thanks Marcia! I don’t know if I would do it if we didn’t have the pool light- sometimes we discover creatures in the pool!
Uggggghhhh on having to wait all weekend for your results!! I’m really curious (as are you!) what’s up with your foot. I’ve never taken a power yoga class, and I’m not really a fan of “traditional” yoga – but I did take a “new to me” class of barre for arms today. Just like regular barre it was a lot of small exercises with small weights (1 to 3 lb weights). It was really tiring!! It will be interesting to see if I’m sore tomorrow from it! Big kudos for getting in the pool in the early hours of the morning! What is the water temperature?
I actually don’t know the water temperature- right now (at the end of the summer) it’s really warm. In a couple months, even though the air temperature will be warm during the day, when it starts getting down to 50s and 60s at night the pool gets too cold to swim. But we’ve never measured it.
Yes, sometimes it’s fun to take a completely new kind of class. I get tired of the same old thing.
Oh no, how frustrating that the doctor didn’t call you back before going home for the weekend. Has he/she never been waiting on pins and needles for test results? Hope you get the call tomorrow and can start on a plan of attack for full recovery. Sending hugs your way!
Thank you Debbie!!! I won’t be waiting for a call- I’ll be calling the doctor first thing.
I am sorry to read that you are having so much foot pain and that you still have not gotten your MRI results. How frustrating! Yes, everyone does have their miracle cure for PF and I hope you find yours soon. I will be spending some time w our Denis tomorrow as well 🙂
Ha, have fun (I’ll also be seeing Denis, so you’ll have to share.)
I’m so sorry your foot is still being such a pain 🙁 Glad you can pool run. Hopefully you can get it sorted out and get back to normal soon!
Thank you Jessie! I’m also hopeful- getting more information (from the MRI) should make a difference.
Ugh I’m so sorry your foot is so painful 🙁 And how just wrong of the doc to leave you hanging all weekend! I hope you get some answers and relief soon!
I did get the MRI results but am switching doctors! We’ll see what the next one has to say.
Ugh, I hope you get those MRI results TODAY! You are right about PF. Everyone who’s had it has their own miracle cure. I hope you find yours!
Yes, I’m still looking- but the answer has to be out there somewhere. Thanks Coco!
I used to do yoga weekly but got out of the habit. Just never got back in.
I keep hoping to read that your foot pain is gone. So sorry.
Thank you Darlene! Foot pain is still here- but I’m working on it.
Sorry about the foot and the bad doctor. My husband was meant to have a call with the diabetes nurse today; instead, he got a call from a very nice but NOT diabetes nurse to say why was he booked in with her for a diabetes call? Argh. After persistence on her part he has a call with the right nurse next Monday. Not great. Hope you have your results by now and they’re telling you what’s up and the plan.
Arg! Dealing with health issues can be SO frustrating! I hope your husband has better luck next week. I finally got my results but am in the process of getting a new doctor.
