Well, I just completed NaBloPoMo2023- 30 blog posts in 30 days. You’d think that on December 1st I would close my laptop and collapse in a heap, but no! It’s the first Friday of the month, and that means it’s time for Coco and Deborah’s Ultimate Coffee Date- I can’t miss THAT! Do I still have anything to talk about after 30 straight days of blog posts? Let’s find out…
If we were having coffee together, the first thing I would tell you is that South Florida got an early Christmas present of beautiful weather this week!
For three whole days we were able to turn off the AC, open the windows, and breathe a collective sigh of relief- “THIS is why we live in Florida!”
Of course it won’t last- we’ll be back to mid-80s this weekend. But it looks like another cooldown is coming our way next week, and I am LOVING IT.
The next thing I would share over coffee is that while unpacking Christmas decorations, I found the box of cards I bought last January. Yes, I send out old fashioned Christmas cards, as opposed to photo cards.
Does anyone remember the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where they get Calvin’s school pictures, and he’s making a horrible and ridiculous face in every one of them? The mom says “We can’t put these in our Christmas cards! People will think it’s sacrilegious!” Well, it’s not quite THAT bad, but I’ve learned that photo cards don’t work with our family.
The last thing I would tell you over coffee is, now that NaBloPoMo is over, I can’t wait to FINALLY finish my book.
I started reading it three weeks ago, and I like it- but I just didn’t have the time this month to read much. Once again, I was on track to read 50 books this year- until November came along and killed that dream. I’ll be happy to get back on a normal reading schedule.
How is your weather? – As always, feel free to send some cold air our way!
Do you want to exchange Christmas cards? – I think last year I sent out an all-time low of three cards. This year will be much better though. Knowing that you’ll just be getting a plain old everyday card, send me an email if you want to exchange cards!

Coffee date! Your weather looks great; I really enjoyed living in Florida in December/January and maybe even February, and from what I can remember, it went downhill from there! These are the times when a nice daytime run is possible, so of course I love that. I remember otherwise getting up at the crack of dawn to get in a run “before the heat” although that did not always work, and there is just no escaping the humidity!
That’s about right. Some years are better than others- last year we had a very warm winter (sigh.) But now is our time for all the daytime runs!
Sure we can exchange Christmas cards! I love doing that.
Jenny, it’s December 1 and I woke up to the lightest dusting of SNOW! I am so excited. I have never been so excited for snow in my life. It feels so festive and as someone who has been used to the feeling of “it could snow anytime” it is SO fun to get some on December 1. I don’t know how long it will stay around, because it’s so light and doesn’t even cover the grass, but still. FESTIVE.
Ooh! That even sounds good to me- a light dusting of snow on December 1st is very exciting and festive.
I love Calvin & Hobbes and can picture that one! I think we did a family photo one year. We did our dog another. I do try to send out cards, although I really think New Year’s cards should be a thing — you don’t have to worry about different faith traditions, and can send them out after the hectic part of the holidays settles down. I’ll look for your email to exchange addresses!
Happy December!
I sent out New Years cards one year! It worked out really well.
I love Calvin and Hobbes. I think you have my address already? And you’ve already received my card for 2023 <3
The weather here is nice today, sunny and not too cold. But earlier this week it was FRIGID and I was very bitter about that. Sigh.
Happy December, and congrats on finishing up NaBloPoMo!
Elisabeth, I do have your address and your card is being prominently displayed!
Ooh enjoy your Florida fall temps! I do send out new year’s cards every year and we were chatting in the FB group chat to see if anyone had your address? So can you send it to me or anyone else to post to the other ladies would love to include you. Congrats on 30 days of blogging that’s a lot of work!
Yes, I’ll send it Deborah! Thank you!
We bloggers talked about cards but don’t have your email or address. LMK.
Yes I plan to send out cards.
And also hope it warms up for my Tampa trip.
I think it will feel warm to you no matter what- I can’t imagine it will be lower than 70s during the day, and with our sun it’ll feel hot.
I’ll be ordering cards this weekend. It’s on the official weekend list! So you’ll definitely get a card from the Midwestern Couple this year.
Earlier in the week, it was very cold (Hannah even had to wear her coat). But now it’s back into the 40s and 50s and I’m less grumpy about having to leave my house!
Ha, that would make me very grumpy as well. But I love dogs in coats, so at least there’s that.
I send out cards every year, but last year they were NewYears cards. I’ll be emailing you, I’d love to add you to my roster 🙂 Great job on the November blogging! I’d think it would either make one burnout or inspire to keep writing more….truth?
Ha ha, a little of both! I’m pretty happy NOT to be publishing a blog post tomorrow.
I don’t have your email address but would like to exchange cards. Mine is lisasyarns at gmail dot com.
Happy December! I forgot to fill our Advent calendar last night – luckily the boys were cooperative when I said the Advent Calendar festivities don’t begin until after school today. They will get 3 m&ms each in a little calendar we have with drawers and I got them a lego advent calendar now that both are into lego (although Taco is a very destructive lego player and kind of ruins thing we build but Paul has been really understanding so far).
We had HORRIBLY cold weather last week. Like subzero windchills a few days and highs in the teens/low 20s. But now it’s back to the 30-40s which is more seasonably appropriate. Although it’s been so windy so it’s felt colder.
Oh, I LOVE the lego advent calendars! We did those for many years. And I just realized while reading your post that we forgot to open our advent calendar today! Luckily it’s a cat advent calendar and they don’t know the date, ha ha. We’ll just start tomorrow.
Would love to exchange cards, Jenny!
Yay for cooler weather! We are now having warmer weather and all our snow is gone. I am trying to enjoy the mild temps as long as they last, but I do really like snow.
Well, hopefully you’ll have snow for Christmas! That’s the only time I really enjoyed it up there.
It’s so funny – my guy and I were saying today was a “heat wave” because we might hit 54* and that was your “cool down” temp in the picture haha! I always intend to send out cards; I order them, I make a list…. and, then, I end up reactively just sending them as we receive them from folks and never actually fulfilling my list (and, then I pack them away with the holiday decorations) (we found boxes going back to 2017, sigh)… But, I think I have a better set up this year, so I have hope! I will try to find your email so we can exchange!
I have also been terrible lately about sending cards, but I’m turning over a new leaf. I’ll contact you and we’ll exchange addresses.
Oooh enjoy that cooldown! If it hits 40 here now it’s “warm”. Single digit temps will do that. You’d think our Africa trip would’ve netted me a great pic for a holiday card pic but have I done anything? Maybe I’ll go out and buy “regular” cards. Haha!
Ha ha, yes there’s always regular cards to fall back on!
Congrats again on NaBloPo 2023! And thanks for the coffee date to soften the blow of only getting to chat with you three days a week from now until next November.
We had decently warm weather until this week when it got cold. Still it’s not too bad so I will take it.
Thank you! At the end of NaBloPoMo I always think “Maybe I’ll start posting more than three times a week from now on…” but then it doesn’t happen. We’ll see though!
That’s such a nice cooldown for you! We have mostly been in the low 70s here but the last couple of days the temps dropped and today the high was only in the 50s and we got RAIN which I love because it doesn’t rain much here and I’m just sad I didn’t get rained on during my run this morning. And the mountains even got snow which I’m thinking of possibly driving up to play in this weekend…
I loved Calvin and Hobbes growing up and had all of the books with the comic strips in them! I especially loved Calvin’s snowman creations!
Haha, yes the snowman creations are great.
I also love when it rains here- we do get a fair amount of rain in the summer but the rest of the year is so sunny, rain is a welcome change. Ooh you get to play in snow… and highs in the 50s. You can actually wear sweaters! I’m envious.
I did order 30 Christmas cards this year because I found good deals on Shutterfly, so now I need to get motivated to address them! The number of cards we receive has really dwindled this year, which isn’t surprising because everyone stays in touch on Facebook!
54 degrees is the perfect temp for running!
Yes 54 is perfect. And, of all the people I know you’re the best candidate for photo cards. You guys do so many cool things- your photos are probably amazing.
That weather number sounds wonderful! Though I can’t really complain about our weather because so far it hasn’t been too bad. I hope it lasts through March. That is awesome that you participated in NaBloPoMo. I tried last year but just couldn’t keep up. Congrats!
Thank you Zenaida! As you may remember I grew up near Chicago so all I have to say about your weather is- good luck.
I love Calvin & Hobbs and remember that particular cartoon 🙂 I’m with Coco – I think New Year’s cards should be a thing. I have some friends who send them and I keep saying one year I’ll jump on that bandwagon.
Your weather sounds heavenly right about now – we have snow in the forecast for Monday.
Today is a little warm, but I’ll still take it over freezing cold. i have to bottle up this feeling and pull it out next summer when I’m tempted to complain bitterly!
Many props on being able to do 30 post in 30 days! I’m super behind on most of my posting so I’ve just been scheduling them into the future when I have pockets of spare time.
Happiness Falls is on my to read list! Glad you’re liking it + hoping to pick that up soon! :]
I send out old fashioned cards as well. I think there was 1 year that we got our shit together enough to send out one with a family picture, and that was it. That is my task today…writing out cards. Luckily I enjoy it!
Our California weather isn’t nearly as bad as Florida weather, but I also am enjoying the cooler autumn temps in place of the HOT summer.
I liked Happiness Falls! I listened to it, and liked the narrator. That can really make a difference for me.
Oh that’s a nice cooldown – actually perfect running weather. We were down to the low 30s overnight here last week and that was a little chilly for my liking, but yesterday and today was in the mid-50s in the morning and it was so pleasant!
Happy December!! Congratulations on completing the NaBloPoMo’23! Wasn’t that something?? I would do it again next year!
Coffee date… Weather in NJ is crisp and cold- low 40s. We have to warm up our cars in the morning because the steering wheel is just FREEZING!
It’s raining in the Bay Area! It actually has been feeling like California winter weather the past few days. My book is shelved until I got on the plane next week. There is just no way. I completely understand that you did not get to reading your book much during NaBloPoMo.
The cool-down last week was so nice. It was my birthday present to Florida. 😉
I’m going to Disney on Friday and I’m so excited to see that the high is 74! Not TOO cold but not blazingly hot – the perfect weather, yay!
I don’t do Christmas cards but if you want to send one to me, I won’t complain! Hehe.
Wow, 54 is amazing for you! So glad you got the reprieve. 🙂 And, congrats on finishing NaBloPoMo+!!!
