walkers walk… but runners fly

Still “Between the Holidays” and Black Friday Shopping

Strangely, I can’t seem to fully move on from Thanksgiving.  The house is halfway decorated for Christmas, but the Thanksgiving tablecloth is still on the table and pumpkins are scattered here and there.  It could be that I’m just lazy- it takes work to de-pumpkin the house, and I just haven’t felt like doing it.

But I did find the energy to do some shopping!  In stores!  On Saturday, I had to drop my daughter off at a band event, and rather than going all the way back home (and then returning to pick her up) I decided to kill time at the mall.

I KNOW.  The mall on Thanksgiving weekend sounds like a really, really bad idea.  It would have been okay if I didn’t go to the most crowded store possible:

It was a madhouse, but I got our “Twisted Peppermint” hand soaps for the bathrooms, and a candle.

Today (Sunday) started off with a 20 mile run.  Well… let’s just say every run can’t be magical.  I felt okay until the last three miles, and after that it wasn’t pretty, but I got it done.  I think it had something to do with the fact that the “feels like” temperature when I finished was 88 degrees.  Ugh.  Not okay.

But at least it was pretty!

My breakfast was truly a “between the holidays” affair…

And then in the afternoon I had to drive my daughter to another band event (she’s volunteering for their gift wrap fundraiser) and this time I found myself near an Old Navy.  Oh, why not?

I got two Christmas t-shirts for myself, and jeans, pajamas, and cozy socks for my daughter.  Everything I got was 50% off.  I don’t think I’ve ever done this much in-store shopping on Black Friday weekend.

When I got home I was ready to sit on the couch and watch football (and light my new candle.)  My lunch was the last piece of pumpkin pie:

Yes, I ate it right out of the pie plate and I don’t care what anyone says!

The last thing in the entire world I wanted to do was cook dinner, so we got pizzas.  Ah, I love days like this… every once in a while.  Tomorrow we’re back to school routine and early wake ups, and I’ll be upset that the house is a wreck.  Oh well… it was worth it.

If you celebrated Thanksgiving, are you ready for the week to be over?

Did you do any shopping this weekend?

  1. This is all lovely. Holiday shirts! Cozy PJs! Pumpkin pie! Delicious-smelling candles! This is all straight out of a Hallmark movie. Well, minus the 88 degrees, perhaps.

I’m sorry the last few miles were tough but YOU DID IT! That’s incredible. Go you <3

I didn't do any shopping this weekend; we have Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals in Canada, but I'm generally done most of my Christmas shopping by this point and hate crowds and generally dislike spending much money at a time so…this is something I'm glad to skip! Though I did notice a few things I ordered for Christmas earlier in the season are now on a better sale because of Black Friday so that's a bummer.

    1. You’ve done most of your Christmas shopping??? I haven’t even started, and here I am out buying things like candles and t-shirts for myself! I better get on the ball here- no more Thanksgiving, it’s all Christmas from here on out.

  2. I am glad that most of the 20 miler went well! I wish the last 3 miles weren’t so rough, though. But it’s kind of good to have tough training runs as they make us more resilient and teach us to really dig deep for some energy.

I did not do any in-store shopping. We did stop by Macy’s yesterday to pick up some pants I had ordered online to be delivered to the store (the pants were recommended by Kae!). But we did not stick around the mall as I was with Paul and we were heading to an indoor playground. If I had been alone, I would have gone to Sephora as I heard they had great sales. Looks like you did super well!! And hey, why dirty a plate when you can just eat out of a pie tin? No judgment here!

    1. Ha ha, GREAT point. I just didn’t want to dirty a plate : )
I think I remember Kae recommending some pants on her blog! I’ll be interested to hear if you like them.

  3. I have no plans to go the mall anytime soon, but I do love a random trip to Old Navy and oddly I like going to Costco on weekends.

A tough final 3 miles is fine when the first 17 went OK. This is not race day, it’s just one tiny step to get you to race day.

Yes to the Halloween/Christmas breakfast combo, all the yeses to pie for lunch right out of the pie pan, and YESSSSSS to pizza for dinner. It doesn’t get any better than that.

    1. Yeah, it was a pretty good day! My stomach is protesting against all the Thanksgiving food though, so I’ll be glad to get back to normal.

  4. Those red Old Navy pants are so cute! On Saturday, I went to a craft fair with my daughter and we randomly bought a crocheted caterpillar and chicken and some local strawberry jam and honey. Totally not holiday related, but just what we needed!

  5. well done with pushing through and finish 20 miles run. I sometimes feel very strong until mile 18 and suddenly feel terrible. not every run is magical and that’s fine, it makes those magical ones extra special!
good job getting presents… I still need to do some more… and need inspirations.
totally would eat from the pan… who wants to clean one more dish after 20 miles?! hehe

    1. Yes, I was thinking that- if every run were easy, I wouldn’t appreciate the really great ones. And yes- after 20 miles I shouldn’t be expected to wash an extra plate!

  6. Love the pumpkin bowl with the ornament cup. And duh, if there’s only one piece of pie left why on earth would you dirty a clean plate rather than eating it out of the pie dish?
Malls on any day make me anxious… never mind a Saturday…. on Thanksgiving weekend! Mad props. I love pajamas and cozy socks for Christmas presents.
I always say I’m glad our thanksgiving is in October because November seems too close to Christmas, but late November is kicking my ass this year – can’t decide if I wanted a holiday or if a holiday would be too much work. I will settle for working and then being a sloth when I am not working. A 20-mile run seems magical to me whether you floated through it or not!

    1. I think the US Thanksgiving should be moved to October! Let’s propose it to Congress- I’m sure they’ll get right on it (hysterical laughter.)

  7. 88 degrees when it’s almost December?! No wonder the last few miles felt rough but you got through it!

I’m also impressed that you braved the stores on Thanksgiving weekend. I love Bath and Body Works but I think I’ll be avoiding it this season and buying online! I did do some online shopping during Thanksgiving week and I’ve already received most of what I ordered so that’s nice. Now I need to actually do some Christmas shopping for people other than me haha!

  8. Ohhh, Bath & Body Works on Black Friday weekend? Brave, brave soul. Twisted Peppermint is my mom’s fave scent! She always stocks up at this time so she can pull out a bottle any time during the year, lol. I have a Twisted Peppermint car freshener + candle, but Balsam Fir is my main squeeze this time of year. LOVE IT.

  9. I haven’t been to Bath and Body Works for my Christmas soaps! I need to inventory what I have… I sometimes over buy a little and end up with some extra seasonal ones tucked away in the basement cabinet where I store them. But wow, going on Black Friday weekend is brave! Looks like you made out well at Old Navy, too. Festive!!!
