When Jenn asked me to cohost the Tuesday Topics linkup, I said “Umm…. are you sure about that?” I’m absolutely terrible about keeping to the topic! She assured me that the topic is just a prompt, and the important thing is that we have a supportive blogging community to share with.
This weeks topic is “Show us your year in bling” and I’ll start with that! I did have some bling this year… just a little. Here I am with Darlene after the Ft Lauderdale half marathon, holding our massive medals:

I was treating this race as a long run, and I ran two miles before the race started and planned to run a couple more at the end. That turned out to be nearly impossible, because it was very crowded AND I had this heavy medal that jingled loudly with every step. Oops.
Then there was my big race, the Skunk Ape 50 miler! Not exactly bling, but I got this little plaque:

Okay! Here’s what’s happening with Charlotte… we think she had a stroke. She’s not in pain, but she can’t move her back legs. I took her to the vet today and we agreed that it doesn’t make sense to do anything too extreme (MRIs, ultrasounds, etc.) He prescribed a round of steroids just to see what happens, and she’ll continue to take her thyroid meds.
We also had the “quality of life” discussion, but I’m not ready to go there yet. She’s comfortable! We have her set up in our bedroom- she rests, eats, drinks, and can get herself in and out of the litter box (although that’s not always a neat and tidy experience). We’ll see how she does with the steroids and go from there.

You may not have gotten a lot of bling, Jenny, but what you got is certainly applause worthy! And even though your Skunk Ape 50 Miler plaque is more on the rustic side, the distance it represents gives it its own kind of bling!
I’m so sorry to hear about Charlotte’s possible stroke. I hope she can remain comfortable during her golden years. Sending you love and hugs as you care for her.
Thank you Debbie! I appreciate it.
I’m glad you can keep Charlotte comfortable. Many pats and chin scritches to her!
Thank you! I’ll pass along all the chin scritches : )
I would say quality over quantity for bling, but you’ve got some serious quantity as well. One HUGE medal, and you know, 50 MILES for the other one.
I’m sending you hugs for Charlotte, and wanted to tell you what you already know – you will know when it’s time, and you also know that the time is not today. She’s got some more purrs and snuggles to give before she crosses the rainbow bridge.
Thank you Birchie as usual for your words of wisdom.
Sending you and Charlotte all the good thoughts ❤️
Thank you Suzanne!
Sorry to hear about Charlotte’s stroke, but I am glad you have a comfortable set up for her. Hugs.
THank you Sam!
Poor Charlotte, but at least you have some answers, a plan, and you’re keeping her content & comfortable. Hugs to all of you <3 Let’s hope these meds work some magic on your little sweetheart.
Yes, maybe we’ll have a Christmas miracle!
I hope Charlotte continues to stay comfortable and hopefully improves! It’s so hard to see our pets not doing well.
You got more bling than me! I only got one medal this year because I DNFd my 100K in January so obviously didn’t earn anything there. Hopefully I will finish my planned races in 2026, not for the bling (though it’s fun to get!) but to be able to have the experience of finishing something hard, especially the 125 miler coming up in May!
omg, 125 miles… that’s a serious race! Yes, i don’t really care about the bling- I just want to cross that finish line.
Sorry to hear about Charlotte and I hope she improves. I have no bling from this year as far as I recall! My friend at parkrun gave me a little trophy to celebrate my 350 volunteer days and 50 runs at parkrun but that’s all!
A trophy counts as bling!!!
Oh, no, Charlotte! I’m so sorry, Jenny. I hope she gets better and is back to her usual self.
I have NO BLING for the year, so you are two blings better off than I am!
Thanks, Engie. I appreciate it!
Sorry to hear about Charlotte. Glad she is comfortable though.
Your bling especially the 50 miler was hard earned. Nice to have souvenirs of your accomplishments.
Yes, it is nice to have souvenirs! I almost forgot that I got a nice beer glass from that race, I should be using it!
I’m so sorry to hear this about Charlotte, but I’m so glad she’s comfortable and you have a possible answer to your questions. I’ve never been close to a pet, so I can only imagine the heartbreak, but I do hope the steroids help her recovery and I know you will all show her all sorts of love and attention.
Yay for race bling!
Thank you Elisbeth! She is definitely getting love and attention.
I feel like bling from a 50 miler is equivalent at least 5 other medals!! Well done! My only race medal was my 10 mile race and I threw it away! I do not like race medals! I did a 10k on Thanksgiving but there was no race medal. Hurrah! They make the shirt optional, too, which is what I prefer.
I am sorry to hear about Charlotte but I am glad she is comfortable and I’m really glad everyone is home so you can make a decision as a family about her quality of life as you see how things go this month. Thinking of you!!
Thank you Lisa! And… I kind of agree. What do you do with a medal anyway? Maybe if you only ran one race in your lifetime and wanted to savor that accomplishment- but if you run multiple races the medals end up being clutter.
Oh Charlotte! I’m so sorry, that must be really difficult. I’m glad she’s not in pain, and that she can get herself in and out of the litter box. I know she will find comfort in your lap and lots of love from all of you. <3
She is definitely getting all the love! Thank you Julie.
Wow! That is a lot of bling! You have completed so many races!
I’m sorry about Charlotte. Having a sick pet is soooo hard. Not knowing how to move forward is even harder. {{{HUGS}}}
Thank you Noemi. Yes, the not knowing is really difficult.
Thanks for the update on Charlotte, I was wondering about her. Poor thing. I hope she continues to be comfortable. xo
She is definitely still comfortable, and we’re happy about that. I’ll give more updates soon!
so sorry to hear about Charlotte, how old is she? It must be hard to watch her like that.
It is very hard. We don’t know exactly how old she is. We’ve had her for ten years and she ws already an adult when we adopted her.
See? I told you you’d be great!
I do love your medals, but I am absolutely thinking of you and Charlotte. Sweet girl is in great hands, and I am sure you are keeping her comfortable and loved. Sending thoughts of love to you all.
Oh, Charlotte. I’m so sorry things haven’t improved with her. At the end of Dutch’s life, keeping him comfortable and safe was the greatest honor. There was just something so special about that and being able to be his person. Thinking of you!
Oh yay, that’s fantastic that you’re hosting with Jenn now 🙂 I should join the Tuesday Topics posts sometime… I used to do them (I think when some other bloggers were hosting it (I think they might have both stopped blogging?!).
Anyway, your medals are cool and always worth showing off.
Not happy to hear about Charlotte… since I am catching up on blogs, I am wary to see what happens.
