walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown

Well, it’s been quite a week! Lots of good things, but also our cat Charlotte has taken a turn for the worse. We’re keeping her comfortable with pain meds right now and we go to the vet on Monday. I’m not going to dwell on that right now, and I’m also not going to dwell on the fact that I didn’t do yoga ONCE this week. Obviously I like having an achy back. Anyway, thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown. Let’s get to those workouts!

Monday

I’ve realized that I underutilize my Mondays- I really need to do something later in the day, strength, or yoga perhaps? Anyway, this Monday saw a nice 4 mile run and that was that!

Tuesday

I felt like I got a lot of nagging tasks done this day- Caroline Girvan deadbug workout, upper body strength, and hip stability exercises.

Wednesday

Long run!!! 19.5 miles, split between road and trail.

It was a warm day, but those clouds really helped!

Thursday

2 mile run in the morning…

I had two yoga videos picked out for later in the day, but it never happened. I really need to work on my “later in the day” workouts!

Friday

I started the morning with hip stability exercises, then it was off to the gym for legs and abs.

Me trying to look casual.

At night we were following our high school football game. It was the last playoff game before States, it was an away game and we weren’t favored to win. Another mom was streaming it and she sent me text updates- we were tied-we were losing- we scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter- three minutes left- 16 seconds left- my heart was literally pounding just waiting for her texts.

WE WON!!! 14-13, and this means the team and band go to the State Championship game this Friday. So exciting!

Then, I went to bed and this is where things went off the rails. I was up half the night with Charlotte. I think I got about 3 hours of sleep, ugh.

Saturday

Weirdly I had a decent 4 mile run…

…and then as I mentioned, her condition was stable enough so I went to work. You better believe I scarfed down some Advil to get through the day.

Sunday

On tap for today… so many things. Putting up the outdoor lights. Keeping Charlotte comfortable. Cleaning my son’s room. Then, Paul arrives home later tonight! It’s a lot right now, and next week is a busy one. Onward!!!

How was your week? Would you be mad if I told you it was 85 degrees here?

  1. Oh, poor Charlotte! Sorry that she’s not well. Keeping a sick pet comfortable is all one can do sometimes. Esp cats, as they are so stoic.
I do not want those summer temperatures- I’ll take my 25 degree days. We might gave some more snow, which I hope does not materialize, as I have to drive junior high boy to far away basketball games this week. I’m a terrible sports mom, as I’m always hoping the team loses in tournaments so we don’t gave to go to more games. Congratulations to your schools team- playing at states must be exciting. ( but marching band still going on? Yikes! Ours ends in October, with the occasional parade in Nov or May. Too cold to March in December!)

    1. Ha ha… our band director is secretly mad that the football team does so well. He has to continue the marching band through December, when everyone else has finished.
Yes, I’m heading out to put up the outdoor lights and it’s 80 degrees. But I’d rather do it in 80 degrees than 25!

    1. My son is heading the opposite way, from Chicago to Florida tonight! I hear there’s snow up there, hope it won’t mess up the flights.

  2. We’re not mad that it’s 85 degrees, we’re mad that we’re not in FL with you to enjoy it. Right now we’re at the stage of winter where it’s still new and the snow is pretty. Check back with us in late Jan/early Feb and we’ll tell you how much we’re over it.

I see that 19.5 mile long run! I’m sending you a virtual high five, and well as all the love and kitty prayers for Ms Charlotte. Hang in there, sweet kitty.

  3. Oh no. I am so sorry to hear about Charlotte. I am terrible at “later in the day.” If it doesn;t happen first thing, it is really hard for me to make it happen.

    1. Yes, there’s too much going on after work! I’m always astonished at people who regularly work out in the late afternoon/evening.

    1. Thank you Nicole! She’s comfortable, but it’s still hard to see her like this. I’ll take that hug, gladly!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear that Charlotte isn’t doing well. I hope the vet can help her at tomorrow’s appointment.

Congrats to your high school football team’s win! What a nail biter! Will you go to the state championship?

Yay for your son arriving later today. ‘Tis the season to be busy!

Nope I’m not jealous of your 85° (that too hot for me). Now if you were saying it was 72-78° with low humidity, that’d be a different story!

    1. I can’t go to the state championship game because I have to work! It’s such a bummer.
Yes, it’s a little too hot for me as well! I’m already cranky about putting up the outdoor decs, and I haven’t even stepped foot outside yet.
The vet will definitely have some sort of solution tomorrow… we’ll see.

  5. oh no, I’m sorry to hear about Charlotte! That is heartbreaking. I know you are doing all that you can and will keep her comfortable. Sending hugs!
Didn’t you get the memo that we were all supposed to post pictures of snow this week on the linkup 🙂
Congrats to the football team! I stayed up late last night to watch OSU lose. So sad!!!!!

    1. I watched that game too! I feel so bad for the kicker… he must feel terrible.
      Hahaha, I missed that memo.
Ah, Charlotte. It’s so hard! As you said, we’re doing everything we can.

  6. I hope all goes for your sweet Charlotte. I know how tough it is to care for a pet when they’re in an uncomfortable state. Hugs to all of you <3
I gotta echo Birchie’s comments about the weather (yours and ours, LOL).

  7. I’m so sorry about Charlotte, hopefully the vet visit will provide some answers.

I’m not mad it’s 85 because it’s 70 here! I’m fine with that because I’m over it being “hot” and the 70s are only a little above average here for this time of year — I can’t wear sweaters but I don’t have to wear full on summer clothes anymore. I’m just hoping it’s not as hot at work this coming week because they decided to crank the heat when it was in the 60s last week and we were all roasting!

Nice job on the 19.5 miles! 18-19 miles is about my max for long runs for training for ultras because I’m slowwwww and I’ve found that if I focus more on my overall weekly mileage rather than hitting a super long run I’m still able to finish just fine. But getting up to that distance in training always feels like an accomplishment!

    1. Hmm! I wonder if I should shift to higher weekly mileage and not to super long runs??? I’ll have to think about that. as you can see, I tend to run short runs during the week and then one long one.
I wish we could get to the vet today, but for now Charlotte is comfortable. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

  8. Oh, poor Charlotte and poor you. I hope she will be ok.

    Congratulations on State! That’s amazing!

Honestly, I’ll keep my 50s and 60s. It’s perfect. The rain can go, but other that that, the temps are great.

    I hope your back improves!

  9. I am so sorry to hear about charlotte. I hope that she is feeling better soon. Nice job fitting in your workouts even with everything going on. Hopefully this is a better week!

    1. Thanks Melissa! It is definitely going to be a busy week with lots of good things… fingers crossed for Charlotte though.

  10. I’m sorry to hear Charlotte is not doing well. I am glad Paul is coming home today. That will be such a pick-me-up for all. I hope the vet has answers for your poor kitty. 🙁

You had a good week of workouts despite all the challenges! I went to 2 OTF classes and that is it. It was a crazy busy week with lots of time on my feet and too many social plans for one week. But it’s almost over and the month actually gets easier from here!

    1. I read your blog post today, and oof- that was a lot last week! This week is super busy for us, but with (mostly) good things. We’re definitely worried about Charlotte, but she goes to the vet today and we’ll figure out what to do moving forward.

  11. Oh Jenny….I’m so sorry about Charlotte. It’s hard to see our pets suffer. But on the other hand, you got really good news about the high school football team! Will you go to the state championship with them again?

    1. I can’t go to the game because I have to work! It’s hard for me to miss it. Last year I was able to see the second half via livestream, but this time I’ll most likely miss the whole thing.

  12. Sorry to hear about Charlotte…

Good news on the long run!

It was 4 degrees on Friday. I’m ready for warm weather though up North where I’m going it’s only in the 60s. Warmer than here.

    1. I would take 60s! It’s going to be in the 70s here this week which will be nice- last week was TOO hot. But I’ll take 85 over 4 degrees… brr.

  13. 85F – oh my! We just had one of the coldest days here in Northern CA (I think it was the low 40s all day and the sun never came out). You had some good runs this week (an almost 20-miler, wow!) but slacked on your yoga. Oh yeah, I can definitely feel when I do.
I am so sorry about Charlotte. You must be so worried. Sending good vibes!

    1. Thank you San! I’ll channel the vibes right to Charlotte. And- 40s all day would be a freezing cold dy for us! We occasionally get down to the 40s at night (although that’s rare) but never during the day.

  14. well done on the 19.5 miles LR, I can only fathom that distance now. I like the idea of LR in the middle of the week when everyone’s busy and I could recover properly. maybe I’ll do that when I seriously train for a race.
Finger crossed Charlotte is ok. I can’t imagine how you feel now with a sick cat.

    1. Oof, it is hard! We’ll see what the vet says today.
Yes, I like my Wednesday long runs! The next one will be Sunday though- I rotate every week so I do a long run every 10 days or so.

  15. I’m so sorry to hear about Charlotte. How stressful!

    I’m not made it’s 85F… but I am jealous!

That’s awesome about the football team. Such an exciting and successful few years.

    1. Yes, this is very stressful! We have a lot going on right now. But… other than Charlotte, it’s all good things like birthdays and concerts. And a big football game, woohoo!

  16. Thinking about you and the family and Charlotte <3 I don’t know what I’d do with an 85* December! It was 27* here this morning and I had to deeply negotiate with my tween to wear a coat to school, so it would at least open up our breakfast conversation to better topics, haha!
