walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- a Christmas Miracle!

I’ll keep this rundown short and sweet because, well… IT’S CHRISTMAS!  Our big excitement of the week was this:

Yep, after all my whining and complaining about the heat, the universe decided to send a major cold front for Christmas!  The week started off warm and balmy though…thanks as always to  Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown!  Let’s get started.

Sunday

Gym day!  I went on Sunday because to be honest, I knew I wouldn’t get there for the rest of the week.

Monday

4 mile run!

Tuesday

I repeated a Caroline Girvan Iron Series workout- Day#20, arms, abs and core.  This is a GREAT workout to do if you don’t want to tire out your legs- the core is intense.

Wednesday

10 mile trail run!  I had to do it after taking my daughter to school, and it was warm and muggy.  Sigh!  When is our cold front coming through???

The only shaded part of the trail.

Thursday

Day off!

Friday

Since it was Festivus, I should have done “feats of strength” but instead ran 4 miles.  Our high was 83 degrees today, but…

Saturday

It got cold!!!  42 degrees when we woke up, how exciting! It was a crazy day.  My only time for a quick workout was in the early evening, and I did a strength workout while watching It’s a Wonderful Life.  I did some single leg exercises that I don’t usually get to in the gym like Runner’s Touch and Bulgarian squats.  Then I did some of the core moves from Carline’s Day #20 workout.

I’m writing this on Saturday night, and look closely at our hourly forecast, specifically 3 and 4 am…

The last time it snowed in South Florida was in the 1970s.  Very, very unlikely that it will happen again, but I’m imagining some little kid waking up early on Christmas morning, looking out the window and seeing… SNOW.  Oh, I hope that happens!  I personally will be sound asleep.

Sunday

On tap for today… opening presents, eating delicious food, and reading on the couch.  MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone who celebrates.  If you don’t celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing day!

Christmas recap coming up on Tuesday!

  1. Funny, I lived in south Florida in the 70’s and I remember when it snowed! It was quite the big deal. You know we all consider those perfect running temps so maybe you will get to take advantage. Merry Christmas to you and your family enjoy your day

    1. Yes, my husband was in high school down here on the day it snowed- he said everyone went crazy and ran out of the school to see it.

  2. It’s crazy how most of the country has such colder-than-typical weather this week! It’s supposed to finally be above freezing mid-week…I might celebrate with a tank/shorts run outside! Enjoy your day, Merry Christmas!

    1. Yes, my sister said they’re going to have 40s (our temps today) up in Chicago next week. I’m sure it will feel balmy to them.

  3. To us 40 degrees is a heat wave LOL

it was -7 with the wind chill yesterday.

Anyway enjoy the chill while it lasts. I’m hoping for beach weather in Feb. (but cool on race morning).

    Merry Christmas!!

  4. Snow!!! Well any of your friends can come up here if they want to see some – I’ll take your weather over mine any day. We got hit with cold and snow and it was too cold to do anything outside (-20+ with the wind!). Festive but not fun for running!

  5. We are watching the Dolphins game. Phil told me it’s a record cold for hosting a game – made me think of you and your family! I hope you are enjoying the cold and that it makes Christmas feel extra cozy! I guess everyone is getting record cold temps. It has been absolutely horrific here this week. But we are getting a warm spell next week and it will be in the upper 30s which is going to feel AMAZING!! I can’t wait. These -30F windchills are so terrible so I am glad the end is in sight!

I have not worked out at all this week. Besides having surgery on Tuesday, I have been dealing with a really painful flare in my hand. I need to get an steroid injection but the roads were too bad last week from the snow/extreme cold to get to the doctor. I see my doctor on Thursday so will get an injection then. And then hopefully will get back on track. Now that the weather is warming up, I will get outside for walks but figure I will wait until the flare is better to work out again as clearly my body is dealing with a lot right now and needs rest more than anything!

    1. Oh, that sounds hard. We’ll be warming up as the week goes on and will be close to 80 again, UGH! But now is a good time to remind muself why I live in Florida… we’ll never have to deal with -30.

  6. Merry Christmas, Jenny! I hope you and your family have a blessed day!

Our running group was supposed to have a Festivus run on Friday, but the cold front was coming in as the rain stopped and we had a sleety, icy mess so it was canceled. Kind of funny because if we were able to run, we could have added the nasty weather to our list of grievances! LOL

  7. Wow, 83F, that’s really warm (in my world, in December)! Good for you to get the colder weather! That’s a nice long trail run there, and a full workout dedicated to arms, abs and core sounds perfect – like hard work. I hope you’re enjoying Christmas!

  8. I HAVE to laugh that your Christmas miracle is cold weather. I hope you got some flurries, too.

We ended up with the perfect light, light dusting of snow. I feel so fortunate because I know so much of North America is battling a deep freeze and excessive quantities of snow. We had relatively mild temperatures, but there is the faintest layer of white on the ground which is gorgeous.

Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and enjoy the rest of the holiday season <3

  9. I’m on the edge of my seat over here – did it snow or not?! I NEED to know. It was bitterly cold here, but it’s supposed to get up into the 40s (ha! – your lows!) later this week, so I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll make through this cold snap soon. It was tough on Christmas Day because our norm is to send out all the kids outside to burn off their sugar highs, but we had them all inside, screaming and yelling and running around. It was a true Christmas miracle that no one was injured!

I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday and it brought you all the joy and family you can stand!

    1. We didn’t get up at 3 am to check the weather, but my son pointed out that if it had snowed, it would be on the news. So… I guess it didn’t, which is not surprising.

    1. It’s SO NICE having him here! Although, every day since Christmas he’s been out with friends. That’s okay, he’s got three weeks left of his vacation.

  10. 42 degrees would have felt like Summer for us this weekend, lol. But I can definitely see how cold weather would be a Christmas miracle where you live. Thank goodness the cold snap here will be ending soon.

  11. I’m so jealous you had the threat of snow (or promise lol). We had hard freezes, but no snowflake on the weather app. Boo.

Hope you had a great Christmas!
