walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Between the Years

Why is the week between Christmas and New Year’s so confusing?  I worked my normal schedule- had Christmas Day and New Year’s Day off, but Wednesday is my day off anyway- and I STILL couldn’t remember what day it was!  We’re definitely still in “holiday mode” around here, as you’ll, ahem, be able to see from my workouts.  Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown!

Monday

4 mile run!

And, it was my daughter’s 16th birthday!  She had a sleepover with her two best friends.  There was a cake of course, and presents (because who doesn’t need MORE presents on December 30th???)

Muffin insisted upon being in the middle of the action, as usual.

Tuesday

I did the Caroline Girvan deadbug workout and hip stability exercises.  Then… New Year’s Eve celebration!  It was just me and the kids.  We had a nice, quiet evening.

New Year’s snacks.

Wednesday

10 mile long run!  I was worried this run would be hot, but it was okay.  I felt pretty great from start to finish.

Thursday

Upper body strength, and core.  This was a harder upper body workout than I’ve had in a long time because I got out the dreaded pull up bar.  Let’s see.  Last time i did (assisted) pull ups, I hurt my arm and vowed never to do them again.  That was a year ago, and apparently I’ve changed my mind (or, forgotten how much that hurt.)

Friday

3 mile run!  Our cold front is coming through, and it was in the 50s.  Hooray!

Saturday

4 mile run, and brr!  It was 49 degrees!  When it starts with a “4” I get out my hat and gloves.  Except I couldn’t find mine, so I’m wearing a weird assortment of random items.

Sunday

On tap- well, I usually take Sundays off.  But my lower body strength training was almost nonexistent this week, so I have to do SOMETHING.  Sheesh.

Nest week, the kids go back to school on Tuesday.  But we leave Wednesday afternoon for Tampa, so it will be another unusual week.  I’m looking forward to a break though!

How was your week?  Could you remember what day it was?

  1. A 10 mile run that felt great from start to finish on New Year’s? I predict good things for 2025!!!

I have no clue what day it is, I just know that starting tomorrow everything will be back to normal, or so they tell me;-)

Enjoy Tampa! It’s going to be a blast.

  2. I also do not know what day it was. We were back at work on Thursday and the boys had childcare so it could have been a normal couple of days but I had no concept of what day of the week it was.

Hooray for a cold front!! Yay! We have had one, too, but more extreme… it was 1F yesterday morning. Yuck. But it will warm up this week and we have no snow so I should be able to run later in the week. I did some CG workouts this week and will do the 10th fuel one this am which is a HIIT. Ahhhhh!!! But it will be effective….

    1. Oh, enjoy. I’ve never done one of CG’s HIIT workouts but I’m sure it’s a killer. And, yes- a cold front isn’t quite as much fun for you as it is for us! 1 degree sounds terrible.

  3. It was a real challenge knowing what day it was! I’m still thrown off, and if we get the snow they are calling for, this week could be another one of mass confusion!

Did your daughter like her birthday presents more than her Christmas presents? Is she liking her Christmas presents better now? Inquiring minds want to know!

    1. Ha, I think her birthday presents were more successful. Partly because I got her a couple things she was upset she didn’t get for Christmas, lol.

  4. I like your cold-weather ensemble, Jenny. ANd hey, we have the same temperature rule about hats and gloves! (Esp. hats. My ears hurt otherwise.)
No, I could not remember what day it was… and Yes, I’m panicking because our semester starts tomorrow!

    1. I’ll bet a lot of teachers are panicking right now- my husband is one of them.
I could run in a tank top in the 40s if I had to, as long as I have hat and gloves. If I don’t have a hat I get a headache, and my hands get REALLY cold.

      1. It was such a nice break! I went back to work Thursday though, which made it too short and having only two days of work added to the confusion. Nice job with the hip exercises as usual. I need to do those!!!

  5. Oh, it’s been such a nice relaxing week between Christmas and New Year’s. I’ve been working from home which is such a treat now. My whoop shows me in the green for recovery more days than ever! But that’s also b/c I’m not running a ton yet.

Anyways, I’m with you on not knowing what day it is!

Happy birthday to your daughter! Love the pic of muffin, what a cutie

    1. I’ll bet you’re happy to be home with Matilda (and that he’s happy to have you home.) It’s nice to have a relaxing week!

    1. Yes, back to reality- but then we go to Tampa which is weird timing. So we kind of put off the return to reality for one more week.

  6. I know you’re loving the cooler weather. Your random assortment of cold weather gear just shows your creative side, or quirky side, whichever you prefer. 😉

Of course Muffin wanted in on the action and how could there possibly be a basket without her making herself at home in it? That’s what cats do.

    Here’s to a healthy and fit 2025!

    1. Yes, Muffin saw that basket and couldn’t resist. I think my running ensemble either said “This woman is creative!” of, “She lost her hat and gloves!” Ha.

  7. I enjoy having the week off between Christmas and New Years but I have no idea what day it is and I’m not really excited to go back to work tomorrow after 17 days off, ugh. But once I’m back in a routine it’ll be fine.

I also break out the gloves below 50 degrees, but I haven’t had to run in the cold since Dec. 20 so that will be a rude awakening tomorrow as well — it’s supposed to be 41 in the morning but later in the week we will have lows in the low 30s, brrrrr!

    1. Eek! 30s! We won’t be seeing any 30s here.
I think the longer you have off, the harder it is to go back. But you’re right- you just have to get back into a routine and you’ll be fine.

  8. I loved how the holidays fell this week–I got Wednesday off, Thursday is my normal day off, and the week after Christmas, I took the Friday off. That gave me a whole week off and I only had to use one PTO day! If only it could always be that way.

I was overdressed for my run today and it was 12F! 50 would feel like a heat wave, lol. Enjoy that cooler weather!

  9. Oh yes, I’ve been in a state of confusion for awhile. My office is supposed to be moving to our “new” building soon (it was supposed to have happened before I joined the company on Oct. 28th, LOL), so that’s gonna throw things into another mixed state of reality. I am really craving some stability and normalness! Oh, and I have yet to de-Christmas my house…so that’s on tap for the afternoon (fingers crossed).

    1. I know- it’s also on my list. I probably won’t get it all done today but I’ll get the major things put away. I’d like it all to be done before we leave for Tampa on Wednesday.

  10. Thursday felt like Monday… very confusing week.

Shorts with a wool hat gloves?? Though 40 here is a heat wave.

10 miles already … you are ahead of me…

  11. My birthday is the day after your daughter’s. The plus of having a birthday so close to Christmas is that you can ask for gifts that you wanted for Christmas but didn’t get. Also, often things are on sale, which is good. The minus is that you then go practically a year without gift opportunities. Not such a problem when you’re an adult and can buy things yourself.

  12. Muffin! The look on her face!
I am finding time impossible right now. Just impossible. Day? Hour? Who knows? But it’s back to a regular week starting tomorrow, so hopefully things will start to resemble more of a routine.

  13. My days are all mixed up! I think tomorrow will be better once A starts back to school and we get back in a routine.
Happy birthday to your daughter! I hope it was a wonderful day!

  14. I really struggled to keep days straight over the holiday, but our kids went back to school on Friday (for one day, which I thought was ridiculous at first, but now think was pretty awesome since it was a gentle transition back to school/out of being able to sleep in).
    Yay for birthday parties!!
