Is it just me, or did this week seem super long? Was the Super Bowl only a week ago??? Anyway… I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah for this Weekly Rundown. Here we go…
Sunday
Yes! I did it- finally went to the gym. I went to my NEW gym, where I did a hard leg day, including squats at the squat rack. I like my new gym!

Monday
A 4 mile run to start the day…
… and then I had another appointment with my chiropractor before work. He’s still working on my low back, glutes and hamstrings. Have I mentioned I have a race this weekend? Everything has to be in tip top shape!
Tuesday
In the morning I walked for 2 miles, and then did Caroline Girvan’s 4×4 Lower Abs Workout. Then… in the afternoon I went to the gym again! My daughter and her friend went after school, and I was slated to pick them up. But if I’m going to the gym, I might as well work out, right? I did a back workout (rows, reverse fly, etc.) and abs.
Wednesday
I went to the gym AGAIN! What in the world is going on? Well, I decided to give my hamstring a break, and instead of running I did this for 40 long minutes…

… and then a glute focused workout (at the suggestion of my chiropractor.) I did the glute push machine and one leg glute bridges.
Later in the day I had another adjustment and ART treatment for my hamstring.
Thursday
Another 2 mile walk, and I thought of Kim when I saw the full moon.
I followed this with the same Caroline Girvan abs workout (4×4 Lower Abs.)
Friday
4 mile run!
Saturday
After work, I went to the gym with my daughter. Like, her friend couldn’t go so she ASKED TO GO WITH ME. She even asked for advice on her form for squats and RDLs (so it seems I’m not a complete and utter idiot, as previously thought???) I didn’t want to tire out my legs, so I spent most of the time on arms and abs.

And then… I drove down to Ft. Lauderdale to pick up two very special race packets…
Sunday
On tap- half marathon with DARLENE!!! It’s going to be a hot one, but the race starts at 5:50 so we’ll escape the worst of the heat. And…
Full disclosure- I wish my hamstring felt a little better than it does. It’s not perfect, but I’m running this race anyway! And I’m planning to add on a few miles before the race to make it a long run (what could possibly go wrong???) Race recap to come!
Did this week seem extra long to you?
Can you believe it’s going to be 86 degrees today here? – “Perfect” race weather!

The week was soooo long. I was also thinking, was it just last Sunday that we watched the Super Bowl?! What a week. But we made it! And you did a bunch of strength training and you’re going to run a half marathon. LET’S GO! Also, watch Severance. It’s so good.
Okay, maybe I’ll start Severance today!
And yes- the week was long, but good. So no complaints.
Yup perfect race weather. Ha ha.
Hope I survive.
You did GREAT! It was so fun. A little hot, but that’s okay. Better than freezing to death and spraining my ankle like I did in my race last February. I’m calling this a win!
Have fun today and have a great race! It’s amazing to me that we are so cold and so snowed in while you’re sweating it out. I don’t know which is worse. Wait, yes I do! LOL
I love all those racks at your new gym!! All the deadlifts! All the squats! All the benches!
Yes, lots of strength work just waiting to happen. And, I’ll take too hot over too cold any day- sometimes I just need to remind myself of that, though.
I hope you have a great time with Darlene and that your hamstring behaves!
Woohoo on going to the gym with your your daughter. I think you won mothering this week! <3
Okay, I didn’t win the race but I did win mothering- I’ll take it! (Darlene and I did have fun though.)
I love that your daughter appreciates all of your fitness knowledge and experience. And she asked for your help at the gym. Enjoy your race.
Thank you! The race was fun, and I am enjoying this (probably brief) moment of upgraded mother status while it lasts.
I hope that the race is going well for you ladies! I’m glad it starts early so you can avoid the worst heat. That is so warm. This must be abnormally warm weather for you guys for winter?
This week did feel long and I was so thrown off by traveling Monday through Thursday. Usually, I travel Tuesday through Thursday so when I do a slightly different schedule, it just throws off my rhythms and then I was sick, which did not help. Paul got the stomach flu during the night last night so that’s throwing things off even more, but I’m hoping and praying the rest of us stay healthy.
Hooray for lots of time at the gym with your daughter!
I think it’s about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. And this race has a full marathon as well, ouch.
Ugh- I hope Paul is feeling better and that the rest of you don’t get it!
You were quite the gym girl this week! Hope you have so much fun with Darlene at the race today. Look forward to reading all about it
Thanks- we did have fun!
Good luck with your race this morning! I assume you are done by now. Maybe you can send some of the heat this way. We have another ice storm and 8 inches of snow headed our way today and tomorrow.
Eek! Yes, I’ll be happy to trade- you’ll get some of our heat and we’ll take a little of your cool air. Then we can all be happy.
Nice work with all those gym visits! It’s almost 100 degrees colder in my hood right now (with the crazy windchill), so I’d gladly swap locates with you 😉
EEK! Hard to believe we live in the same country. I stay right down here with the heat and humidity, thanks.
Yay for the new gym! And the race! This week took forever – but that is pretty on par for this point in February. Thinking cool thoughts for you and Darlene (from a snowy/freezing rain ick up here haha sigh)!
Egads. The weather up north sounds HIDEOUS! I would rather run in heat than freezing rain.
OMG YOUR DAUGHTER ASKED YOU ADVICE! Jenny, this feels like a whole new era! OMGOMGOMG!!!
Good luck with your race today! I hope all goes great!
It is a new era! I hope it lasts a long time. And, we survived the heat and had fun at the race!
I am loving the mother/daughter gym dates! 40 minutes of stairs = this is how we can tell that you run ultras and not mere marathons.
I know that by now you’ve already finished the half so congrats! I hope that your recovery plans include another stop by the Mexican place for table side guac and a beer.
Seriously, was that only a week ago? I won’t be back there today (sadly) but I may have to enjoy a beer right here at home.
Hope you enjoy your race today! 86 is a little warm for racing in, but once it’s summer here, 86 degrees is considered a cool day, and sometimes that’s even the low temp for the day haha!
This week did feel very long but I’m looking forward to this coming week, because it’s a short one for me. We don’t get President’s Day off but that’s fine because we get off Thursday and Friday instead for rodeo break. I don’t support the rodeo but I do support having a four day weekend because of it!
Rodeo break??? That’s a new one. Yeah, sounds like something we would not be into- but I’ll take days off whenever I can get them.
Good luck for your race! Well, it’s done by now! I have just been round a new gym – it does have pin machines as well as ones you add the plates to as I’m quite unsure of those. But it seems no nonsense and decent so I think I’ll just join and give it a go.
Great idea! It’s a little daunting joining a new gym, but they probably provide a little tour with the membership? Or… you’ll figure everything out. For some reason, switching to this gym has really upped my motivation to go.
Phew, I hope your race went well for you two! Hopefully you missed the really bad heat (although, if it’s more than 60 degrees on race day I’m melting. haha!). That’s so exciting that you had a gym day with your daughter AND she asked for advice. I will be getting back to my gym routine this week. I’m sure I will be oh so sore. Looking forward to a race recap from you!
It’s SO hard to get back to a gym routine- those sore muscles are no joke. And, don’t move to Florida. I think it was around 72 when we started the race this morning. But- we survived! Recap coming up.
That’s a great week!! You know that I’m biased when it comes to going a lot to the gym! Of course you’re not an idiot there. But I had to look again to check that I saw correctly, in the first picture. So many squat racks???!!! That’s a fantastic gym! When I’ve been to regular gyms, I’ve almost always had to skip squats, barbell rows and the likes because the 3-4 squat racks were always taken.
I hope your race goes well for you both!
My old gym had TWO squat racks- and if I was using one, I felt guilty, like I should be leaving it for someone lifting heavier weights. This gym has EIGHT. I can squat all I want!
I hope you had the best race today! What fun that must have been! The weather is turning here (cold again), so I do hope it’s not as hot as you would have thought!
So glad you are loving the new gym!
Nope, it was still hot for the race- today (Monday ) it’s a little cooler. One day late! We’re getting some 50s overnight this week, which will be nice- but we won’t get as cold as you.
YOU ARE BONDING WITH A AT THE GYM!? This is amazing news, Jenny. Also, look at you going to the gym practically every day and running half-marathons! Wowzers. You fit a lot of impressive things into this week.
I was mostly home with kids because we have had sick and snow days nonstop lately. Oh well, this too shall pass. Today is a holiday in Canada…and it’s a snow storm so it wouldn’t have mattered either way – school definitely would have been cancelled. I have all my fingers and toes crossed tomorrow is a go, though.
Oof- sounds like you had a long week too! Well- this too shall pass is correct. I hope you can resume normal activities tomorrow!
(so it seems I’m not a complete and utter idiot, as previously thought???)
LOL LOL LOL
Kids are the worst. (also the best)
Yep, that’s the perfect description- they’re the worst and also the best.
Upgraded mom status–haha! Your new gym looks more colorful and cheery somehow.
What a great set of movement notes. I hope yesterday’s race went great! You look so radiant holding up those race packets!
I’m so excited for your daughter! She’s going to the gym! You’re doing the role model thing and it’s working!!
