What a week. There was a lot of Christmas prep (yes, I did get my outdoor lights up last Sunday!), concerts, a VERY BIG FOOTBALL GAME, and of course, workouts as always. Thanks to Kim and Deborah for hosting this Weekly Rundown. Let’s start the insanity…
Monday
Ha- my arms were sore from putting up lights on Sunday! I guess that was a good thing, because- spoiler alert- I didn’t do any other upper body workouts this week (oops.) I started the day with a 3 mile run…
…followed by the Caroline Girvan deadbug workout. There were many of these this week!
Tuesday
Another confession- I didn’t make it to the gym this week. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I was at the gym. I did hip stability exercises and the CG deadbug workout again. Then I was able to knock out several errands before work- phew.
Wednesday
7 mile run! This run was hard. After last week’s beautiful weather, today we were in the 70s and the humidity was back- ugh! And, somehow I lost track of the miles. I thought I was done, stopped running and was about to save the workout on my watch, when I realized it said “6.07” WHAT. ARRRRG! I started it again and ran the last mile. Grr.
After this run, I spent a couple hours wrapping presents and mailed some packages. Then at night, we had the winter band concert at the high school, always my favorite concert of the year.
Thursday
3 mile run…
and CG deadbug workout again! My back has been feeling okay this week, and I want to keep it that way. Deadbugs really help.
Friday
I did a leg workout at home, including squats, Bulgarian split squats, hip stability exercises, and then once again, the CG deadbug workout. THEN…
State Championship football game today! The band, the cheerleaders and the team (ahem, obviously) all traveled to the game. Buses were also provided for any other students who wanted to attend. For the students who chose not to go, the game was live streamed in all the classrooms instead of regular curriculum. Have I mentioned that this has never before happened in the history of our school?
I have to say, it crushed my soul a little to miss this game! I’ve attended every single home game this season, and every playoff game so far. But this one was during the day, and I had to work. I resigned myself to my fate. BUT THEN…
My last client DIDN’T SHOW UP, so I rushed home and watched the last hour of the game via live stream. The live stream coverage was amazing! Like a professional game, with commentary, great camera work, and replays. Very fun in a different way from being there in person.
AND WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an end to an incredible 15-0 season. And what a fun thing for the entire school! They’ll never forget this experience.
Saturday
4 mile run before work, with some speed work thrown in! My legs were a little sore from the workout yesterday, but the run felt pretty good.
At night we went to Tuba Christmas- a concert of Christmas music played by a band made up entirely of tubas.
My daughter had some friends who were playing- she wasn’t playing herself, of course (is there such a thing as a piccolo Christmas? If so, I don’t want to hear it.) Fun night!
Sunday
On tap for today- a cookie baking extravaganza. I’m planning to knock out four batches of cookies, including two different cutout cookies. The days are just careening at full speed to Christmas. Slow down, time!
How was your week? Did you wrap presents? Bake cookies? Attend a Tuba Christmas concert?

Oh, goodness, the tubas – amazing!! I had all my Christmas in one go yesterday – after parkrun we did our traditional breakfast at quite a horrible pub which is the only place remotely nearby you can do that (I had a cup of tea as I’d already had breakfast at the normal time at home), and then we had our BookCrossing not so secret santa exchange in the afternoon – just eight of us but a nice time and my present went down well (my santee guessed it was me as we’ve all known each other 15-20 years and she knows my handwriting!) and I loved mine (I knew who it was from because we’d gone up to collect her and her powerchair and brought her to the meetup so I’d put her parcel in a bag for her, carried it to the car, held it in the car, got it out of the car and put it in the sack for distribution!). I am finishing my cards today then that’s it apart from buying a chicken and some potatoes and other veg for Christmas lunch next weekend.
I would love to attend Tuba Christmas. How fun! I know another blogger in the DC area that went to that as well! I need to see if it’s in Mpls next year! Paul and I are going to a high Christmas concert at church today with hundreds of singers. The music director has her doctorate in music so it is AMAZING. I would love to join the choir some day when I am in a less demanding stage of life. So maybe when I am retired. Ha. I can’t wait to attend the concert!
It has been terribly cold here so I have switched to CG workouts. I am doing her fuel series which has cardio mixed in plus dedicated cardio workouts. They are so hard but so effective!
Congrats to the football team! My nephew’s team won state years ago and he was a starter. I kind of regret not going but Paul and I had tickets to a winter light display that night. In hindsight I should have skipped the lights but I didn’t want to miss that activity with Paul.
Congrats on the State Championship! That is so great! Glad you could catch the last hour of the game. Looks like you had lots of fun stuff this week. The gym will be there when you are ready. No worries!
You were very busy this week in a good way! Glad to read that you seem to be injury free this week 🙂 Happy sprint to the finish of the holiday rush
Lots of good stuff here! I love it when I get to do something physical in the “real” world and not in the gym – example your arm soreness from hanging lights.
I don’t really need to start my Christmas treat tray until next weekend. Honestly I probably don’t need to start until Dec 23 because we don’t need the goodies until our family party on the 25th. I’m going to make 3-4 things plus Christmas brunch for the four of us. I think I have my game plan – oreo balls, chocolate chip cookie bars, and Christmas crack. My optional 4th thing is cheesecake bars. I’m not sure how many people in the extended family like cheesecake, but with two teenagers at home it will get eaten if I make it.
Argh on the no-show client, but YAY on getting to watch the end of the game and the win!
I am baking today. I’ve already done a double batch of my cookie press wreaths and will be heading out to join the in-person bake-a-thon as soon as they cool enough to pack up. I’ll bake my molasses spice cookies over there.
I’m not sure about cards. I may put the USPS to the test and send them Saturday. :-O
I’m so glad you got to see the game!
Today I have gingerbread cookies on tap. I think I’ll also make some peppermint bark. I do have a few gifts to wrap but mostly things feel under control!
How fun that your daughter’s high school won the state championship! And how lucky that you were able to tune into the last hour of streaming.
In answer to your questions, no to all. I had planned to wrap gifts on Friday afternoon, but got involved with end of year tax stuff for my business instead. Fun times! I may save baking until the kids are in town next weekend, or I may start later this coming week. I plan to ask and see which they prefer. And no tuba concert either. 😉
Bizarrely, someone else I know attended a tuba Christmas! I never heard of it before! I would also not be down for a piccolo Christmas LOL!
You won??? Congratulations! That’s amazing! I’m so glad you got to watch the end!
I have done most of my wrapping, baked most of my cookies, and the rest is just going to fall into whatever place it falls into. Period.
I only went to the gym once this week. It’s just difficult carving out the time when we are all sharing cars.
Sounds like a great week for you, and congrats on the state championship! That’s so exciting, and even though you couldn’t be there, at least you got to watch some of it.
I didn’t really do anything Christmas-y this week, though I did order some presents. I need to finish that up today, and get everything packed that I will need for 2 weeks at my parents’ house. I’m only 2 hours away from them, so I could always drive back if there’s anything I need, but I’d rather not make a 4 hour roundtrip so I have to pack 2 weeks worth of running clothes and regular clothes, and I’m not quite sure what the weather will be like that whole time so I have to be prepared for anything! And I just have to get through 4 more days of work until I’m off through January 6!
I looks like your running is going well.
I left Florida so it warmed up. lol
Freezing here. To be expected.
Haven’t backed since the kids left
Hope to wraps and exchange gifts by next weekend.
That’s so exciting for your football team! Wow, undefeated!!!! I’m also hoping to get some baking done this afternoon, as I look out the window at (currently) dreary weather. Maybe I’ll have another hazelnut cappuccino first…
No tuba or piccolo Christmas for me, but I’m starting to make a dent in the Christmas prep. I’ve got another Women’s Health Seminar today at the gym–so no baking– and tomorrow I have a work meeting and then 2 doctor’s appointments–what was I thinking? And so no baking. Hoping to get a few batches in later in the week. I just don’t like being this busy!
Congrats to the football team. How exciting!
Oh my goodness. They won state! This is so exciting. I know you love football and it’s so wonderful your daughter got to be involved with such a thrilling season!!!
I have zero idea how these things work…will they now play in some national championship, or is this the end of the road for their season?
