Does anyone else feel like this week was REALLY long??? I can’t even believe last weekend was still November. November? That was ages ago! I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah as always. Let’s see if I can remember way back to last Monday to start this rundown.
Monday
Since this was November 29th, I was almost at the end of my month-long yoga challenge. I did a 45 minute power yoga class with-who else- Denis Morton on the Peloton app.
This day went south pretty fast. As I shared in my last post, after work I stopped at the grocery store, where my car battery bit the dust. I had to wait for roadside assistance to come get it started and didn’t get home until 8 pm. Arg.
Tuesday.
Okay, here’s the thing. I had no functional car. I had to get a jumpstart to get it to the dealer for repairs. I had no idea how long the repairs would take, or if it would even be fixed that day. I had to get my daughter to school, and after school I had to get her to the high school for a rehearsal, and at night I had to get to her jazz band concert.
My first thought on waking up was, “I have to do yoga.” It was the last day of November. I knew the day would be unpredictable, and I could just picture saying “Yes, I completed my daily yoga challenge for November. Well actually, I did yoga for twenty-nine days in a row- the last day I had a car problem.” No, no, no- I wasn’t going to let that happen. I started the day with a 20 minute power yoga class, which was all I had time for. November yoga challenge… done.
It turned out that my car was fixed by the afternoon, and in between getting my daughter to her rehearsal and returning to hear the concert, I had time for a quick 3 mile run, yay!
Wednesday
Although I was happy to have completed my month of yoga, that 20 minute class wasn’t really how I wanted to end it. So on this day – December 1st- I did what I thought of as the official end to the challenge, a 60 minute flow class. It was so nice to spend an hour with Denis- thank you for a great month, Denis!
Thursday
A 3 mile run first thing in the morning! My foot is… hanging in there. Sometimes I think it’s better, sometimes not. I had to miss my shockwave treatment on Tuesday because of the car fiasco, but I’ll be going next Tuesday. I’m going to discuss orthotics with the doctor. The first time I saw him, he thought I would benefit from orthotics but wanted to get my foot feeling better first. Well, I don’t see the point in waiting. I’m hoping we can get moving on that soon.
Thursday night was my daughter’s band concert (Tuesday night was a combined jazz band concert with the high school jazz band- this was the regular Symphonic Band holiday concert.) It was SO FUN! Obviously a middle school band doesn’t sound like the New York Philharmonic, but it’s touching how hard they try. My son also went through the band program, and now that he’s in college I’m well aware of the fact that these concerts are numbered. Someday I’ll be missing the concerts with out-of-tune playing, clarinet squeaks, and wrong notes. So precious.
Friday
Thursday was the first day in over a month that I didn’t do yoga, and I missed it! I started this morning with a 20 minute glutes focus flow. It was a short, but great class.
The short class was all I had time for, because I also had to put together a batch of cinnamon rolls for my son’s birthday. Both my kids have December birthdays. I planned it that way, because there’s not enough going on in December to begin with. JUST KIDDING. I absolutely did not plan that. After my son was born, I spent the next six years saying that I wanted another baby, just not in the month of December. And then I gave birth to my daughter in… December. Whatever.
Anyway, my kids always get cinnamon rolls on their birthdays. This is the first year my son won’t be home on his birthday, so I sent them to him. Now I’m hoping the USPS doesn’t screw up (again) and they get there in time.
After work I did another short 3 mile run. I’ve been enjoying these late afternoon runs. When I run in the morning there’s so much prep work- loosen up my foot, activate my glutes, etc. etc. It seems like a lot for such a short run. But in the afternoon everything already feels loose and ready to go.
Saturday
O.M.G. BAYLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a game. The Bears upset Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 Championship 21-16. It was a thrilling finish (I almost had a heart attack) where, in the final seconds of the game, Oklahoma missed scoring what would have been the winning touchdown by inches.
I actually felt bad for the Oklahoma players and fans… what a heartbreaking way to lose. But luckily I’m a Baylor fan!
After all that excitement, I took a nap, ha ha. What can I say… it was a long week. When I woke up, I did a 30 minute yoga class, a quad focus flow. I’m really liking these focus flow classes!
Sunday
Did my usual 5 mile “long” run. Our weather is so beautiful this time of year, and I love the fact that I got in four runs this week. But I’m a little unhappy with the fact that my running is taking such a backseat to everything else in my life right now. Once again, I’m looking forward to a nice talk with the podiatrist on Tuesday.
For the rest of today, I have to get our outdoor lights up! Right now we’re the slackers in our neighborhood- I can’t believe everyone else was so prompt. Have a great Sunday!
Do you have a lot going on this time of year? Anyone else have December birthday?

I was thinking of you while we were watching the game yesterday — it was a nail-biter at the end for sure!
Glad you enjoyed your month with Denis, but there’s no reason is has to end, is there? 😉
Sorry your foot continues to nag. Mine too, on a lower level, but it’s still a bummer that it’s ailing at all at this point. Oh, well.
I’ll still keep doing yoga! Just not every single day.
Ugh, your achilles and my foot- c’mon shockwave treatments, work your magic!
wow you sure did have a really busy week! nice job completing your yoga challenge. I really like the focus flow classes as well They are a great compliment to running. It sure is fun when your college teams win. Thanks for linking and have a fantastic week ahead
Thank you Deborah! Yes, this was my first season of college football and I loved it!
A couple of those flow classes are marked “beginner” which is why I didn’t try them earlier. “Beginner” does not mean easy! He just gives more instruction, which I can definitely use.
I saw part of the Baylor game highlights…that IS exciting! My team, in the other hand, practically failed to show up for their championship game…but just getting to the game was a big deal, so I’m alright (in retrospect, LOL). I’ve only had one session of yoga with Denis, so I need to schedule more of those in…
Well, there’s always next year! I’m happy I’ve discovered college football- it’s so much fun.
I hope you’re able to enjoy some more time with Denis!
We watched that game yesterday and WOW! what a finish. One of my partners at work is an OU alum–she had her kids all decked out for the game and shared them on FB. What a way to lose. But so happy for you and your Baylor student!
Yeah, this week was ridiculous. Maybe the planets were in some weird alignment. I had a horrible day on Wednesday and an RA flare yesterday. I swear…I need to move to a deserted island. Meanwhile, we have running! Thank goodness!
Ha, yes, we have running! I wonder how the non-runners cope.
Your poor co-worker! I think it was growing up as a Cubs fan that made me ultra-sensitive to these disappointing losses. But, someone has to lose, unfortunately. Meanwhile Waco is going crazy. Even my son, who’s not that into football, went to a huge block party last night.
Hope you’re feeling okay after your RA flare.
I also felt this was a long week! I can’t believe Dec. is here, but at the same time, it feels like it’s been here for weeks!
This time of year is usually crazy, but thanks to covid, I only have a few holiday commitments and we’re not traveling until the end of the month!
Yes, in a lot of ways Covid has made these holidays more sane. I feel like that’s a weird thing to say, but it’s true.
My SIL & her eldest both have December birthdays — but we’re Jewish! A mom who bakes cinnamon rolls? Yum! Lucky kids!
Yes, my week did feel very long, for very different reasons, obviously.
Yes, my week was filled with all good stress (well, other than the car issue.) Your stress was more serious. Hope this week is going better for you.
Way to go completing that 30 day yoga challenge. I look forward to my days off so much that I could never pull something like that off!
I do know what you mean- when I’m running a lot I really feel like I need those days off. The yoga was easy enough to do, especially since I could choose the type and duration of the class each day.
I thought of you during the Baylor game – that finish was unbelievable!
Congrats on completing your 30-day yoga challenge! I did one in January and you’ve got me thinking about trying another one soon.
I hope your podiatrist appointment goes well.
Thank Michelle! Yes, the end of that game was incredible (depending on who you were rooting for, of course!)
I think you were the one who first gave me the idea of doing a yoga challenge! I might do another one in January as well.
What lucky kids to have homemade cinnamon rolls shipped to them! Yum.
Great job on the yoga challenge!
I’m sorry your foot isn’t 100% yet. That’s frustrating. Hoping the orthotics might help.
Thank you Jessie! My son will definitely be lucky if the cinnamon rolls making it through the postal service.
Even if I prefer to run in the morning I also like the late afternoon workouts to enjoy the lights of the city. Many years ago I used to run on the breakwater to watch, from the sea, the lights of the city and of the towns on the hills: it was a spectacular view. Unfortunately now the breakwater is closed for security purposes because on the other side there are the cruise ships.
That’s a good point- I don’t have a pretty view like that, but this time of year it’s fun to run while it’s getting dark and Christmas lights are coming on.
Well done on your yoga streak. I think I’m just going to have to try now – my hand isn’t quite right but I can get it almost flat … I have a January birthday. which can be a bit miserable, I do get good presents bought in the sales, however!
Yes, a January birthday isn’t much better! My husband’s birthday is in January and it’s hard to think of what to get him- I already got him everything for Christmas.
Yoga can put a lot of pressure on hands and wrists- I hope your hand is okay!
Awesome job on your yoga streak! Having car issue can be so frustrating! I’m glad that it didn’t take too long to fix your car.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your podiatrist appointment goes well.
Thank you Kim! I’m seeing him tomorrow. My fingers are crossed as well.
I’m so impressed with your yoga-everyday challenge! Great job sticking with it.
I did run every day in September and I was SO ready to be done.
Also, every time I read these posts I wish I enjoyed/was in the routine of doing workout videos. I can’t tell if I actually want to do them, or if I just want to like doing them (and just don’t). Hard to tell at this point where my motivations are on this…maybe something to try in 2022. But not sure how to stick with it. We shall see!
And all the best with continued healing 🙂
Thank you Elisabeth! I’m curious to know which workouts you’ve tried. Peloton has a really wide variety of classes, but I’m also intrigued by IFit. Maybe it’s just a question of finding the one you like? Having the Peloton app really made my yoga challenge possible.
I find it so funny that when I had “yoga” on my training plan I was almost in tears because I didn’t want to do it! And then I thought, maybe I’ll run 2 miles, and then do yoga (even thought I didn’t have enough time for both!). haha! I’d be happy if I never had to do another downward dog again. I need to keep searching for something I enjoy.
Band concerts are fun! It’s amazing how much they advance as the years go on. Those squeaky 1st time concerts are especially fun. My son has his jazz band and holiday concerts this week.
Way to get it all done on Tuesday Super Mom! Glad the car repair was a quick fix.
Ha, I’ll be interested to hear what you sub for the yoga in your training plan.
Yes, by the time they get to high school things sound pretty good! Enjoy those concerts.
I hope once you get your orthotics that they work the same magic that mine did and as quickly!
I thought of you when Baylor won! Hope your son gets his cinnamon rolls in time and enjoys them!
Thanks Debbie! He did get the cinnamon rolls the night before his birthday- it was perfect. I like the idea that my orthotics will quickly work magic! Fingers crossed.
It WAS long. And I kept losing track of days! Why???
Listen. Middle school band is WAY better now than it was when I was in middle school. I was BLOWN AWAY by my 8th grader’s concert. It’s amazing how talented some of these kiddos are.
Keep working on that foot. It’s going to get better!
Thank you Jenn! I’ll agree with you that middle school band has improved tremendously. I remember my middle school band didn’t even have a tuba. Wait till your son gets to high school- then you’ll really be blown away.
What a busy week but mostly in a good way.
This is the only time of year when I don’t mind running in the ark after work…the holiday lights!!
Yes, it is really fun running with all the festive lights on!
I’m always so impressed with your workout recaps – you’re so committed! Congrats on finishing the 30-day yoga challenge. On top of NaNoBloMo! What a feat.
Thank you Stephany! The yoga challenge was so easy compared to NaBloPoMo, ha ha.
