Hey guys! After a crazy week last week, it felt like time slowed down and allowed me to catch my breath. I got a lot done and feel like I’m in good shape going into the next couple of weeks- it’s going to be a wild ride from here on out. As always, I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for this rundown. Let’s get started!
Monday
I started the week with a 45 minute slow flow yoga class. Yes, even though my month of yoga is over, I still did a lot of yoga this week. As always, all classes were on the Peloton app with Denis Morton.
Tuesday
Started the day with a three mile run. Hooray! Every running day is a good day.
Then I went to the podiatrist for my fifth shockwave treatment. While I was there he did the scans for my orthotics! My next shockwave treatment is in four weeks, and the orthotics should be ready by then. Hang in there, foot- help is on the way!
Wednesday
45 minute power yoga class. Good class! Lots of single leg strength elements and balance.
Thursday
Another three mile run to start the day. Here’s the thing: NOW, the arch of my foot is aching. I mean, in addition to the heel (plantar fasciitis) and the side of the foot (insertional peroneal tendinitis.) It doesn’t feel like an injury- just like a sore, achy arch of my foot. It doesn’t hurt when I run, but a couple times in the middle of the night I woke up with it aching. Poor foot!
Friday
Started the day with another 45 minute power yoga class. For the last couple weeks I’ve been doing a Friday evening run, but because of the achy arch situation I decided to skip it this week. But, all is not lost! I had a very dire situation to address.
Last Sunday, I announced that I was going to put up the outdoor Christmas lights. But when I walked out the door, it was 84 degrees, sunny and humid. NOOOO! I just couldn’t do it. So I foolishly put it off, hoping the weather would improve.
Well, the days went on and our weather has stayed hot and humid. Meanwhile, I had to look at every else’s Christmas lights while my house remained dark. The situation was becoming desperate, because I knew that next week is another busy week. I decided to just get the lights around the top of the house up, and I thought that doing it later in the day would be cooler.
Well, it was cooler but as the sun started to set, I got about 97 mosquito bites. Christmastime in Florida- it’s special! I did get those top lights up though, and felt triumphant, and itchy.
Saturday
First thing in the morning I did a 30 minute core focus yoga class. Then, I went to work where I had my hardest client. He gets a 90 minute massage with the deepest pressure I can possibly give. He’s a super nice guy, always appreciative, and tips well. And I get a second workout! But I’m glad I only see him once a month.
After work…. I finished the Christmas lights! Victory!!! Now you may be wondering why my husband doesn’t help with this. The answer is- it’s just not his thing. He likes the way it looks with the lights up, but if left up to him, he wouldn’t do it. In addition, this is his busiest time of year, work-wise. So this has become my job, and I’m fine with it.
Somehow I felt like, with all the time I spent it should be more spectacular than this. We have a couple neighbors who really go all out- lights covering every inch of their yard and house, and one additionally has an entire Nativity scene on the roof. No, that’s not me! My lights are good enough- I can say I decorated the house and feel good about it. Phew- that task is done for another year.
Sunday
I tried something different today. I did the beginning of a yoga quad focus flow. It’s a quad focus because Denis calls your attention to your quads in each pose, but it was a real hip activation with chair, humble lunge (why is that one so hard?) and warrior 3. I paused the class before the final poses and went for a four mile run. Then I came back and re-joined the class for the final poses, so I got some good stretching in. It was a fun way to mix things up!
And now… today will be my cookie baking extravaganza! I know- my last post was all about how I don’t eat sugar. And I don’t! But I still enjoy baking cookies. It will be fun, and feel good to get a big chunk of baking out of the way. I’ll put most of the cookies in the freezer and pull them out as needed. And I’ll probably find the time to make a “special’ batch of my own cookies. I’ll be sharing it all on Tuesday!
Next week gets crazy again. My daughter has two more concerts and my son comes home on Friday! And there will be lots of present wrapping. This time of year is stressful, but it’s all good stress. I love it.
How was your week? Are you extra busy or not so much?
Do you put up outdoor lights? And do you go all out, or more minimalistic?

I hope you will succeed in solving the problems at your foot very soon. I know how annoying is not to be able to run as we like (I mean pace and mileage).
About the orthotics I had a not so good experience with them. I got them after the femur fracture. At that time they didn’t solve my situation because the specialist programmed the orthotics on a treadmill but I used them on irregular surfaces: as we know the roads are not flat and sometimes, if we run in front of the cars, both the feet are not on the same level (the right foot usually is below the left).
This morning my wife started to put the lights around our house: I am like your husband, I don’t help in this (shame on me).
Have a good week ahead.
Ha, that’s funny- I’m sure your wife is happy to do it, and if she really needed your help she would tell you. No reason it has to be a “man’s” job!
I’m really hoping the orthotics help me, but I know there’s no guarantee. I do have a very difficult foot, and have worn them in the past (only stopped after having my kids- I think being pregnant somehow changed my feet and those old orthotics were no longer comfortable.). Fingers crossed!
I love the lights! And I can’t even imagine Christmas time and anything warmer than it is here it is here. I wouldn’t mind some 80゚ days in December but I guess it wouldn’t feel like Christmas to me. Enjoy your baking extravaganza! Hopefully your foot pain goes away soon.
Yes, I guess it takes some getting used to, Christmas in a warm climate. We’re always hoping for a “colder” Christmas- last year it got down to the 40s on Christmas night, which was very exciting.
I love your lights, very nice! Nothing up here at all, I need to get in the loft space and at least get out my stuffed Christmas tree and bunting I made a few years ago! We have an advent window thing on our road and a few side roads but my husband doesn’t like to draw attention to the house and I was worried about my artistic ability so we’re just admiring everyone else’s.
Ha ha… I would say my artistic ability leaves something to be desired! But I forge ahead anyway. Somehow I feel obligated because the kids seem to expect our house to have lights. I’m definitely happy once they’re up.
I have a lot to do but I just can’t get myself motivated to do it! I’m almost done shopping. 2 more gifts to buy. I still have to wrap everything. I still have to bake. I have to clean. I don’t put up lights outside anymore because my husband doesn’t help…lol. We do have a little tree in our front yard–the whole neighborhood does it–and I decorate that.
I think the arch pain is all part of the PF package. That’s where the plantar fascia is, as you know. Before I broke my foot, I would always do broken toe pose after a run to stretch out that part of my foot. I never want to get PF again! I hope you find relief soon.
I remember you mentioning broken toe pose, and I incorporate it into almost every yoga class. Denis likes to start with hero pose a lot, but I can’t sit with my feet folded under me like that. So I switch it up to broken toe pose. Hopefully it’s helping?
I did get a lot of baking done today but still have a lot more of everything to do. I’m trying so hard to get it done early because I don’t want to be stressed out the week of Christmas!
Oh my comment vanished …
Every day you get to run is a good day! Interesting way to mix things up with the yoga and the run. I do a run warmup and then headout to run and then do a cool down walk and then a Peloton stretch. I find it really helps with recovery. Have fun cookie baking!
Mixing the yoga class up that way was like doing a good warmup and cooldown- I usually don’t do a good cooldown like that, and I should.
I think your lights look great! We don’t put up outside lights anymore, but I do have two 4-foot trees alongside the front door, which are lighted. You can see both of our inside trees (one has white lights, the other has red) from the street, so I’m good with that. I’ve got more baking on tap…not sure when it’s going to happen, though (maybe tonight?).
I think with all those lighted trees, your house probably looks bright and festive! Once both my kids have moved away, I probably won’t put up outdoor lights anymore. I’ll do something more minimal like you.
I love how you mixed up the yoga class! I’ve done that once for a 45 minute class and really enjoyed it.
I love your Christmas lights! We didn’t do lights for outdoor decoration this year but still used bows, garland and a wreath.
Yes, it was really great because I got the activation before the run, and some deep stretching afterwards. I’ll probably do it more often, when I have the time.
Its wild how different the United States is from Minnesota having a blizzard and you putting up Christmas lights in 84 degree heat with 97 mosquito bites 🙂
I have to read your post about how you don’t eat sugar! I don’t think I could do that…I try to be good about moderation, but I definitely indulge in some Christmas cookies this time of year!
Yes, so funny that we live in the same country and our climates are SO different! In spite of my complaining, I will take 84 degrees over a blizzard.
Your house looks great and it appears we do about the same level of decorating outside that you do. A few of our neighbors went all out and hired professional Christmas light installers this year which kind of makes our house look pathetic… Oh well!
I have three more batches of cookies to make – two for us and one more for my mom. I love this time of year, but boy is it busy!
Yes, I wonder if the super-decorated houses in our neighborhood were done professionally. Mine definitely falls into the amateur category, but it’s a step up from my Halloween decorating, which could only be described as “weird.”
Decorating is not my hubby’s thing either. I just put candles in the windows.
I agree. Any day you can run is a good day.
I feel for you on the foot issues. I hope it is over soon.
Knock on wood…lately mine do not hurt. I am worried about gong back to the office and traveling for work – real shoes = foot pain.
So date yet… praying that it’s not until spring.
Oh, I can’t even imagine having to wear “real” shoes! I think if I had your job I would have to get some sort of doctor’s note stating that I had to wear running shoes all the time, ha ha.
I’m glad you’re still working from home! One good thing about Covid.
I think your lights look plenty festive! We are Jewish. Which is fine, as I did not inherit the decorating gene and probably would be with your husband — even if I do enjoy looking at everyone’s lights (and their trees inside their homes, from the outside, of course).
Seriously, you are way overdue for a break with your feet! Fingers crossed that help actually is on the way.
I don’t use refined sugar anymore, but I do use honey & maple syrup. I bake a lot less than I used to, too.
Judy, I definitely did not inherit any decorating genes either! I think I spent half the time on those lights getting them untangled. I would swear I wrapped them up neatly last January, but as soon as I took them out of the bin they immediately tangled in my hands. It’s really a miracle I got anything up at all.
You had a full week. I do hope that the next shock treatment and the orthotics will help your foot! Fingers crossed.
I already baked cookies earlier this week and we put up the tree/decorated a little bit on Friday. We go pretty minimalistic usually (because we have a small apartment).
I think I saw the cookies on your blog! They look and sound really yummy.
You are so funny with your Christmas light installation in the heat. Here we wait until it gets up into the 40s so it’s “warm” enough to put them up. That said, I’ve got none outside this year. There was a huuuge house fire not so far from here last week that stemmed from the holiday lights and that really terrified me. Yes I am super crazy busy both with work (gotta love retail clients) and holiday prep. It is fun though! Hope your foot is ok! Arches and all!
Oh, that’s scary! I can see how that would deter you from putting up outside lights. And yes- for all my complaining, I’d rather put up lights when it’s in the 80s than have to do it in the freezing cold.
I’m sorry to hear your arch is now bothering you. I really hope the orthotics do the trick!
Your lights look great! We’re fairly minimal with some lights and then wreaths on the door and windows.
Enjoy your cookie baking 🙂
Thank you Michelle! I definitely got a lot of cookies made- not as many as I’d hoped, but still a lot. The house smells amazing!
Your lights look great! The palm trees and the thought of 84 degrees makes me smile – so different from my Christmas! Looks lovely, and I’m glad you had a good week. Good luck with the wrapping, I have to do that too!
I know- I love seeing everyone’s snowy pictures- so different from what we have!
I’m getting ready for a wrapping extravaganza the next two days 🙂
The lights look so festive. We’re doing renovations right now, so there is NOTHING festive on the outside (ladders and staging look decidedly un-festive, actually, but I feel like I get a complete pass on the decorations this year).
Hope the cookie-making was lots of fun; bet the house smelled delish.
And I had to laugh at your mosquito comment. I can’t even imagine mosquitos this time of the year…so I guess there are *some* perks to living up in very cold Canada right now. Snow, ice, freezing rain – you name it, we get it…but there are definitely NO mosquitos.
Yes, I’m sure our weather couldn’t possibly be more different! Sometimes we get cooler weather in December, but not this year apparently.
You definitely get a pass on the lights! And yes… the house smelled amazing yesterday.
I love the lights – they’re so cheerful and artfully arranged. I have to admit that as someone who lives in an area with lots of oaks, maples, and evergreens, seeing holiday lights on palm trees always takes me a minute to adjust. 🙂
This time of year has been slow for me on the work side of things, but I am finding myself stressing out about Christmas, even though just about everything is done. Presents are wrapped and shipped. Tree is up. I just put the holiday cards in the mailbox to get sent out. I mean, there’s some baking to do, but it’s all fine. I just need to tell myself that it’s all supposed to be fun!
Yes, I have to remind myself when I start to get too stressed- it’s supposed to be fun! If not, there’s no one requiring me to do all of this.
You’re definitely ahead of me- I have a big present wrapping “party” planned for the next two days.
I think that’s funny you need to wait until it cools down to put up your Christmas lights! In my neighborhood there is usually one weekend in November when it’s 50 degrees and all of the smart people put their lights up. I usually just end up missing it and put the lights up in the rain/snow/ice/whatever! I was so happy all of my family helped this year. The task goes by so quick! How long will your son be home for? My daughter will be home for a month. My husband wonders why we still have to pay for her dorm room when she’s not there. haha!
My son will be home for a month as well! I’m wondering why my whole family doesn’t help with the outdoor lights, hmmm…
Hehe, I had to laugh reading through the comments from people in much colder climates. Putting up lights when it’s hot out is basically a given these days – wah. It’s been way too warm these past few weeks, but we’re getting a slight cold front for a few days so that’s nice. But a high of 74 for Christmas, ugh.
I love your holiday lights AND that you put them up yourself. Nice!! It looks so festive. 🙂
Oh, Stephany- it’s supposed to be 81 here on Christmas, GAAAHHHH! At least it’s getting down to the 50s at night for the next few nights- we can sleep with our windows open for a change.
