Gearing Up for Fall

What???.., (you might be saying)… It’s too early for fall! Nope- school starts MONDAY (August 10th) and our first high school football game is the 14th. So, like it or not, “fall” is upon us. Last week I was suffering from post-wedding depression, but, not surprisingly, thinking about fall has cheered me up! I have mixed feelings about school starting (which we’ll get to in another post) but it’s time to pull myself together and plan my fall workout schedule. As usual, it’s like fitting together pieces of a puzzle. Scheduling lower body strength workouts that don’t affect my long runs and getting to the gym when it’s not horribly crowded can be tricky… but I’ve come up with a hopeful weekly schedule that includes four runs, two walks, two upper body strength sessions and two lower body strength sessions. Is this too ambitious? Time will tell (the upper body strength sessions can be done at home, so that helps). Guess who else thinks it’s time for fall? The stores! I’m getting emails from Hollister telling me it’s time to shop for homecoming dresses, from Hallmark advertising football merchandise, and, best of all, Bath and Bodyworks had a sale this weekend on candles, INCLUDING FALL SCENTS!!! You better believe I rushed to the mall. Imagine my delight at seeing this display: I had a lovely time, leisurely sniffing every candle. Some of them smell amazing, and some are really strange. Remember Football Season? I still can’t explain what it smells like, but the closest thing I could think of was “soap.” And Leaves smells like cinnamon. I mean… I just think some of these are misnamed. And Cozy Sunday Night smells like socks. But! There were lots of good ones, and I ended up buying this: I came home and lit it right away. I love it! It definitely has a apple-y smell, which reminds me of Erica’s candle schedule (from The Girl Next Door podcast): apple- pumpkin- pine. She starts with apple in September (or, August if you start fall then) and moves on to the other scents as the months go by.
