Weekly Rundown- Ice and Rain

Oh hi there! When we left off last week, I was battling a very sore low back. This week I went into a very aggressive “FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW” mode. My method: move as much as possible in ways that don’t cause pain, and avoid all activities that hurt. Luckily, I could still run and walk and I did one or the other every day. I avoided all lower body strength workouts, and also, sadly, yoga (just to be on the safe side). Let’s just see how it all worked out! Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown. Sunday 4 mile run! My back felt fine while I was running. The rest of the day was taken up with grocery shopping, food prep, football watching, and napping, obviously. Monday My low back feels much better! Unfortunately the issue has moved firmly and painfully into my SI joint. I did an upper body strength workout, carefully designed so that I could do everything either sitting or lying down, in order to take as much stress off my back as possible. I also did Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout. Later in the day I got out for a 30 minute walk, and I iced my SI joint several times over the course of the day. Tuesday 10 mile long run! It was on the more boring trails in a nearby park. This was a difficult run- I forgot my salt pills and my stomach felt awful. The one positive thing was, my SI joint didn’t hurt at all. I don’t even know how that’s possible, because everything else I do hurts it. The running gods are smiling on me! For the rest of the day- more icing that SI joint. Wednesday In the morning- Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout. Later in the day, a 45 minute walk. Again, icing the SI joint whenever possible. Thursday Hey, guess what- it feels a little better! After work I ran 5 miles on the treadmill, with some speedwork thrown in. More ice. Friday Another upper body strength workout, again doing everything sitting or lying down. And, Caroline Girvan deadbugs. We were supposed to have a high school football game, but it rained all day and the game was canceled. Sob! My daughter and I went to the gym and I walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill. Saturday 5 mile run before work! Then it was a long day at work, At night- takeout! Football! Reading! All my favorite things. Sunday On tap for today- running. So, my plan is working! I would say my back/SI joint is at least 50% better. I’m confident that if I continue on this track, the whole thing will be resolved soon. How was your week? Did you have any weather snafus? Are you battling any injuries?
