A Full Day
Oof! Today was, um, a “day off”, but somehow I was insanely busy. It made me think of Kae’s recent post about how we fill our days, and shouldn’t we feel like we have way more time, now that the kids are older? HA!!! (In my case, one issue is that Angie gets done with school at 12:15 because of “senior privilege”, but she doesn’t drive. In my opinion, this is NOT A GOOD COMBINATION. She usually manages to get rides with friends, but I try to be available to drive when I can so she isn’t constantly sponging off people). The day started with me taking her to school, and then I went for a run. Then I had to get my car fixed. This took over two hours, but I can’t really complain because I was able to while away the time at a nearby Starbucks. Then a quick trip to Target for random items (sunscreen, black nail polish- guess who that’s for?- cat food, and this doormat, which mysterious jumped into my cart (heh heh). Then it was time to pick up my daughter! I dropped her off at the gym and ran more errands- the library, groceries, and- this is a fun one- I stopped at the pharmacy to pick up the prep for my upcoming colonoscopy. Eye roll. Then it was back to the gym to get Angie. Back home, I packed up my massage table and headed out to give a massage (so I guess it wasn’t a complete day off, as I had a private client). In my absence, Angie was picked up by a friend and taken back to school for pep band. When I was done with the massage, it was time to pick her up, and when we got home it was 5:30 and time to start dinner. WHERE DID THIS DAY GO??? To be fair, I have plenty of days off that are much more relaxing than this. And I didn’t have to go anywhere this evening, so I’ve been sitting on the couch reading and watching baseball. But sheesh… I’m actually kind of looking forward to work tomorrow! At least it will be a less complicated day. You might be wondering what I got at the library… I’m excited to read these, but first I have to finish this: This book is so, so good. I’m about halfway through, and if I had to give a brief summary I would say it’s about two elderly women reminiscing about their lives. I KNOW! This does not sound like a “Jenny” book. There definitely is a plot, but the part I like best is the deep exploration of each woman’s past. What was Polly’s marriage like? Why did Agnes never marry? What was it like to be a young woman in 1940? The writing is absolutely beautiful, and I want it to go on forever. Well- not really, because I have a whole stack of great books waiting to be read. When you have a day off, are you usually busy or do you like to relax? – I like a combination of both, if possible- getting things done but also having free time.
