Weekly Rundown-Homecoming!

Hi there! Welcome to the Weekly Rundown, hosted by Kim and Deborah (thanks, ladies!) This week was a little light on the strength training, but full in other ways (hey, it’s all about balance, right???) Here’s how it all played out… Sunday A 4 mile run to start the day! At this point I was still grappling with that SI joint pain, but it was about 50% better than it had been earlier in the week. Monday No school because of Yom Kippur! I slept in a little, and when I woke up… my SI joint was 100% better. HOORAY! I did Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout before work. After work I had a walk planned, but it was raining. Instead I did a bunch of housework I had been putting off when my back was so sore, and that felt good. Tuesday I had a great trail run! It was planned 10 miles but I made it 11, because it was mostly overcast, which makes SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE. I also saw some wildlife, but not the cute, lovable kind. First a snake- just a harmless black one curled up on the trail, which slithered away as I came near. THEN I saw this guy (girl?): There’s an official name for them, but we call them “banana spiders.” They’re huge and scary looking (just for reference, you can see a “normal” size spider also in this web) and not deadly, but I sure wouldn’t want to get bitten by one. This web went across the trail, just a couple inches above my head (the next tall person who comes along is going to get a BIG SURPRISE). For the rest of this run I thought about how many other spiders there were out there that I wasn’t seeing… eek. I also took a mushroom picture for Wendy. Wednesday In the morning…. a 4 mile run. Later in the day I cautiously did some lower body strength, which I avoided all last week because of my low back /SI joint pain. Everything felt good! Thursday In the morning- CG deadbug workout again and upper body strength, which was strangely absent the rest of the week (oops). After work, a 45 minute walk, and then… high school football game! It was our homecoming game, and we won 57-0. The field was wet from all the rain we’ve been having, so the band played their halftime show on the track (once again). Everyone was in high spirits, and it was a super fun night. Friday Oof. These Thursday night games are hard! My daughter went to school a little late so I was able to get in a 5 mile run. At night… homecoming dance! Angie’s boyfriend is now a freshman in college, but he’s still local so he took her to the dance. I don’t think he has any interest in high school events anymore, but he knew it was important to her. What a great guy! There were some late night shenanigans which I won’t get into, other than to mention that I had to go out around midnight to pick up one of Angie’s friends, whose mother was on her way to urgent care. This sounds very serious, until I found out she went to urgent because she had… pinkeye. PINKEYE??? WHO goes to urgent care in the middle of the night for pinkeye? People are very strange. Saturday Ouch. I “mysteriously” slept through my alarm, and only had time for an abbreviated lower body workout before work. The good news is, I did weighted squats for the first time since the SI joint issue, and everything felt fine. That episode is officially done! Sunday On tap for today- a 5 mile run. Then, grocery shopping and some sort of fun football dinner. How was your week? Any giant spider (or other spooky wildlife) sightings?
