Book Talk

My favorite book blog is Modern Mrs. Darcy, and for the first time ever, I splurged and got her Fall Book Preview… It was so fun to look through, and I have several new library holds now, including Exit Party by Emily St. John Mandel (it sounds so good!) Fall is obviously a popular time to talk about books, because the latest episode of The Girl Next Door podcast is their Fall Bookshelf. Lots of great books discussed there as well, and I’ve put The Puppet Show by M.V. Craven on my TBR- I’m always looking for a new police procedural series. Meanwhile, I finished Fellowship Point. I really enjoyed it. I loved the friendship between the two women, and the very last sentence of the book was very moving (I love when that happens). I know some people have a problem with the way certain plot points tie together in the end, but I liked it. I hope more people read it so we can discuss! Overall I had a slow reading month in September. There were several books I enjoyed, but I only read five and I’m well behind my goal for the year (I set a goal to read 75 books and I’m currently at 53). Obviously nothing bad will happen if I don’t reach my goal, but I’m going to try to focus more on reading for October (November is NaBloPoMo, so not usually a big reading month for me). As a matter of fact, I have a mini “reading retreat” planned for the weekend… Or, what’s actually happening is I have a colonoscopy on Monday (sigh). I had pretty much written off Sunday, but then I figured I’ll make it a day of reading. I mean, what else am I going to do? Not much. I have three nonfiction books that I’ve been wanting to read but never get around to: My goal is to read at least part of all three books on Sunday. It will be… um, fun? And the next fiction book I’m starting is Anne of Green Gables. I can’t believe I’ve never read it- time to rectify that wrong! Have you read Fellowship Point? Did you like the ending? Do you set a reading goal for the year? – Yes I do- but just for fun. I don’t make myself crazy over it.
