October Coffee Date!

Ooh! It’s time to get out the Halloween mugs and join Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date! If we were having coffee together (I’d be having Earl Grey tea) I would tell you… The Halloween decorations are up! Inside my house, that is. I’m not sure if I’ll put up outdoor decorations this year. Every year we get fewer and fewer trick-or-treaters. I guess we don’t have many little kids in our neighborhood, and the older kids go to more exciting areas for trick-or-treating. I might put up one strand of orange lights, just to signal that we do have candy, if anyone wants to knock. On that subject, I asked Angie what candy I should get. I want to get something she likes in case we have a lot left over. Her response was “smarties and candy corn.” IS SHE INSANE??? What was your favorite candy growing up? I loved Snickers, Heath bars, Mounds, Almond Joy… pretty much any candy bar. Smarties are okay, but WHO would choose candy corn over a Reeces peanut butter cup??? If we give out candy corn, we really won’t get any trick-or-treaters next year. If we were having coffee together, I would continue to talk about reading. Yesterday I mentioned several sources for fall reading inspiration, and then today the Currently Reading Indie Press List episode for October dropped (for patreon members only- but I highly recommend it. You get a lot of great extra episodes for $5 a month!) Now I have two MORE books on my TBR- The Ship of Death by Kyle Winkler, and Mothersucker by Kim Bohyun. Mothersucker is a vampire story. I’ve never read a vampire book because… I’ve never wanted to. But this one- described as a “feminist crime-horror novel”- sounds intriguing, and I figure there’s a first time for everything, right? The last thing I would ask you, if we were having coffee together, is if you’ve been watching baseball playoffs. Now that the Cubs are out of it, I’m rooting for the White Sox and Tampa Bay. Between baseball playoffs, college football and NFL, there’s something to watch EVERY NIGHT. I love it! What would you tell me over coffee? What was your favorite candy as a kid? Do you like vampire books? Are you decorating for Halloween?
