walkers walk… but runners fly

5 More Things

Well, I couldn’t resist. NaBloPoMo is over, and I don’t usually post on Mondays, but in the spirit of San’s 5 Things theme here are 5 things from our Sunday!

Foxy is trying to destroy our tree.

It turns out the ornaments are irresistible to him. Every time I walk into the room, there’s tinsel strewn on the floor and random ornaments lying around. Worst of all, we realized the tree is now leaning!

Not sure if you can see it from this angle, but it’s definitely leaning back towards the window. It’s so hard to get it centered in the tree stand and now we have to do it all over again. This is going to be a long month!

We had a festive outing!

As I was eating my breakfast my husband suddenly said “Do we have an advent calendar?” ACK! I usually get an advent calendar for the cats from Trader Joe’s but completely forgot this year. I told my husband I would go today, and he unexpectedly said “I’ll go with you!”

We stopped at Starbucks on the way, and I wore a holiday shirt.

I was worried we were too late for the advent calendars, but they had a few left!

Back at home, I got working on the rest of the decorating.

Here’s the pet tree:

FOXY!!!!!!

Here’s our stockings:

Foxy doesn’t have a stocking yet- but Santa doesn’t bring presents to naughty cats who wreck Christmas trees!!! Just saying. Foxy better get himself on the “nice” list asap.

My son finally got back to Chicago.

He left at 3 am (ugh- my husband drove to the airport) and traveled for more than twelve hours. He had a long layover in Dallas, which he didn’t mind one bit. His girlfriend drove up from Waco and they got to see each other!

Airport date.

The day definitely got a glow up.

It started off as a blah, melancholy day- my son left; the holiday weekend is over; back to work and school tomorrow. But how can you stay sad when there’s caffeine, shopping, Christmas lights, football, and pumpkin pie? You can’t. Onward!

Are you sad Thanksgiving is over?

Do you have an advent calendar?

  1. Oh, Foxy!! I have to be honest that we hid our tree in our bedroom until Zelda was old (like…seven or eight). Then she didn’t care about the tree anymore. Now she likes to lay under it to hide from the dog. I have no tricks on how to get Foxy to stop being so adorable/naughty!
Congrats on finishing NaBloPoMo! You did it!!

    1. Thank you Engie! Yes- Muffin doesn’t care about the tree anymore, and I don’t even think Charlotte has noticed it (sigh.) i guess it’s unrelistic to expect Foxy to leave it alone- if it’s still standing at all by Christmas we’ll consider it a win.

  2. We had a cat eat the tinsel once, and that can be pretty dangerous. I don’t want to be a naysayer, but if I were you I might take the tinsel off of your tree. I love that you have advent calendars for your cats! So sweet. Glad that your son got to see his girlfriend on his way home!

    1. Oh, I’ll look into it. i think it might be more dangerous with the skinny long strands of tinsel (what we used to call icicles?) I can see how they would want to eat those. But I’ll check and see if the kind we have could pose a problem. Thank you!!!

  3. Our cat doesn’t care about the Christmas tree, but we’ve lost a few ornaments to our 2 year old this year. I think we have them all high enough now?

  4. Oh Foxy! When my parents were here we were talking about the year the tree fell over – on my day who was napping on the recliner! I did not remember the reason the tree fell over was because the cat was climbing it!! I hope Foxy gets her act together.

I am glad that Paul got to see his adorable girlfriend at the airport. They are too cute!!

I am not sad Thanksgiving is over but you won’t be surprised to hear that. Ha. I don’t get holiday blues luckily. And there is so much to look forward to in December! First up, our birthday boy’s celebration! He keeps asking if today is his birthday. Calendars are confusing to him!

    1. Yes, December has a lot of fun things- we have TWO birthdays in December as well. I remember once in my childhood our cat tried to climb the Christmas tree- I don’t think it fell over though. We saw the tree shaking, figured out what was going on, and rescued the situation in time.

  5. I know cats tend to want to mess with Christmas trees! Luckily dogs don’t seem to do that, or at least my dog doesn’t — she never has really gotten into anything, even more typical things that dogs can chew up or eat or whatever, so we can leave decorations out and they’ll be fine. Hopefully you can figure out a solution for your tree that will work with Foxy!

I am definitely sad that Thanksgiving is over! The day itself seemed to go by slowly which was really nice but the rest of the weekend flew by and I’m not excited for three full weeks of work before my next extended time off. At least it’s a festive time of year though!

    1. Yes, it’s three more weeks of school. But as you said- it’s a festive time of year and I find that it goes WAY too fast!

  6. That shirt is cute!
I wondered how your tree would fare with a new kitten in the mix!
I have an Advent calendar that is a daily puzzle, and the pictures are dogs with Santa hats. I love it!
Woof, what a long trip that is for your son. 12 hours!

    1. Yes, I’ve looked at the daily puzzle type of advent calendar- one of these years I’ll get one! I don’t think puzzle pieces are a good thing to add into the Foxy mix right now.

  7. Oh boy…it is going to be a long month. Doggo showed no interest in the tree last year, but this summer she got into some ornaments that Hubs had stored low to the ground. Hopefully she did not get a taste for them. Mr. Fox had better get himself on Santa’s good side.

I’m glad that your son got home safely and was able to get an airport date. That’s even more epic than a TJ date.

  8. Love the shirt. How festive! Also, it is BEYOND adorable that Paul and his girlfriend were able to meet up together. That’s lovely.

I don’t have an Advent calendar for myself this year, but both kids have chocolate ones AND my son received a LEGO Minecraft Advent Calendar for his birthday which is he LOVING. I do have an advent candle, though. Stay tuned: it will definitely make my Happy Things Friday list this week <3

Oh Foxy. Good luck!!! Eeks. We had a tree fall over a few years ago and it was traumatic!

    1. I know Elisabeth- I keep remembering the story of how your tree fell over. Well- you survived it and we will too, if it happens.
      An advent candle??? I’m intrigued!

  9. I’m cracking up at naughty kitties don’t get treats from Santa and how Foxy best get himself back on the not naughty list. I can only imagine the ornaments as tempting toys. Our tree fell down once in the middle of the night and we don’t even have a cat. We bought a new stand after that, but we lost so many ornaments. I’m not really sad Thanksgiving is over. It was nice, but it was also chaotic. I was spread a bit too thin, which was my own doing between NaBloPoMo and having a chapter due over the weekend to read today. I got a lot done, and it was nice to have a few days off of work. We don’t have an advent calendar. Not sure why – we’ve just never had one.

    1. Yes, I can see how the holidays would be fun and yet chaotic for you! It’s probably somewhat of a relief when you complete another one successfully.

  10. Foxy, no! My cats have been pretty good about the tree ever since they were small. Lila likes to chomp on the plastic branches and sometimes Ellie will try to bat at ornaments, so I keep all the unbreakable stuff on the lower branches. Mostly, they just like laying on the tree skirt and taking naps!

I have THREE advent calendars this year, hahaha. I’m doing a murder mystery one that’s basically like reading a chapter a day of a book and then solving a puzzle. I have a chocolate advent calendar. And the cats have their own treat advent calendar that I got from Target!

  11. I’m intrigued with the tree, we are setting it up soon and wonder whether our cats will do anything to it. did you find a solution?
advent calendar for cat! soooooo cute.

  12. FOXY!!!! We finally put up our tree yesterday and so far there has been lots of sniffing and some gentle nibbling, but nothing serious. BUT we haven’t added any ornaments yet. So glad your son made it back to Chicago! What an ordeal.

  13. I love your shirt and the festive cup! 🙂

Aww, what a sweet picture of your son and his girlfriend, how wonderful they were able to meet up.
