walkers walk… but runners fly

Friday FIGS revisited!

In honor of Elisabeth’s guest post on the Frugal Girl’s blog, I’m bringing back Figgy Fridays!  Honestly, this week was full of figs.  It was my daughter’s spring break which meant I didn’t have to get up quite as early.  Other than Wednesday, when I woke up at 5:30 voluntarily for a long run, I was able to sleep until 6, or even 7 on some days!  It was figgy.

Other random figs:

My son’s trumpet ensemble played in a national competition!  It was live streamed so we were able to watch it.

Paul is the tall one!

They won third place!  I was a little mad because I thought they should have been first (although there’s a slight possibility that I’m biased) but third is still great, and involves a cash prize.  (Side note- the group that won was an all-female group, so it was kind of hard not to root for them!)

Getting their award.

This sunrise on my run…

Fun and festive dinner!  On Wednesday night I felt like something to celebrate completing my long run, so we had homemade subs with vegan cold cuts and cheese.

Yum.

I have a new creamer!  I finally finished the last carton of peppermint mocha (sigh) and it was time to move on.

Yummy creamer+delicious tea+amazing mug= triple fig!

Muffin deserves a shout-out.  I had a dream that she somehow followed me to a gas station about two miles from my house.  I was very stressed out because I was already late, I had to get gas, and now I had to somehow wrangle Muffin back home.  A gas station worker tried to reassure me that “cats always find their way home.” Not from HERE!  There’s traffic!  The dream was so vivid that now every time I see Muffin, I think “Bad girl! You were at the gas station!”

I would never go to the gas station!

What are your figs from this week?

  1. Yay for FIGGY Fri-yay! Especially when I just happen to check Feedly and find it up on Thursday. It’s like getting an early start to Friday.

I don’t know what the dream of Muffin going to the gas station means, but I think it’s very sweet that she wanted to keep you company.

This week was pretty stressful with work, but what else is new. There are still FIGS to be had. Snuggles with Doggo, a couple of good meals, and the weather is going to be nice this weekend for hiking. I will take it.

    1. Ha ha, I think she would follow me to the gas station if she could. Sometimes she can be a little clingy! Pet snuggles are always a FIG.

  2. Yay for spring break! My kids have a different week than me so I won’t really get to sleep in, which is such a bummer. We are going to Monterey for two nights but we won’t sleep in when we’re all sleeping in the same room. Boo. I guess I have to wait for summer.
I’m so glad your cat only went to the gas station in your dream. I have never dreamt of my cats like that. At least I don’t remember having done so, but I also don’t remember most of my dreams. Maybe I dream of them a lot! Ha. That would be funny.

    1. Oh, I have cat dreams all the time! Maybe it’s because Muffin usually snuggles with me at night right before I go to sleep.
Once we pass spring break, summer is not far behind! I feel like the remainder of the school years goes alarmingly fast.

  3. I have question. What is creamer? We don’t have it here and I’ve always wondered about it.

Congratulations to your son, a fab result. What a great week you’ve had.

    1. Hmm. Well it’s something you put in coffee (or for me, tea.) I guess it’s… cream? That can be flavored? I’ve never really thought about it!

  4. Congrats to Paul! (And to the all girls trumpet ensemble – so cool.)

Look at sweet innocent Muffin! She would never cause you a moment of worry. (I hate nightmares like that! They feel so real and the anxiety lingers.)

    1. Thank you Suzanne! And, Muffin actually has caused me plenty of moments of worry, ha ha. Nothing as bad as in the dream though.

  5. Sounds like a pretty figgy week indeed!

Huge congrats to your son and his ensemble — third place is fantastic (even if we all know they totally deserved first). Plus, cash prizes never hurt!

And celebrating your long run with homemade subs sounds perfect — post-run food just hits different, doesn’t it? I did the same this week — definitely counts as a double-fig!

    1. Ooh Catrina you are getting close to your race!!! I’m excited for you. And yes- that post long run food is extra special.

  6. That dream is hilarious. I love/ hate when dreams are so vivid I remember them for days. Sometimes it’s a nice dream and I’ll feel all fluffy and happy, and other times it will be like NO WHY IS EVERYONE IN PERIL!
Well, this week I made some good progress on my edits, it’s been raining a lot which means things are greening up, I’m getting the garden ready for planting, and today my brother and niece will be here for a visit!

    1. Wow Nicole you have a lot of figs! And- it’s like those dreams you have where someone does something bad (in the dream) and then you’re glaring at them all the next day, ha ha. Dreams can feel REAL.

  7. I actually dreamed about my cat last night! It wasn’t that I dreamed she hadn’t died, but that she had, yet still was able to come visit me. I petted her, and it felt SO real. I felt a pang when I woke up, and yet it was still kind of nice. It’s maybe an odd FIG, but overall I’m grateful for it.

    1. Oh, that’s definitely a fig but also makes me sad. But it sounds like it was comforting to you, so that’s good!

  8. Sleeping in til 6 or 7 am on a weekday is a DREAM! I’m usually up between 5 and 5:30 to get a run in before work but on the rare occasions I take a rest day on a weekday as opposed to Sunday, it’s so nice to have a more leisurely wake up.

Congrats to your son, and so great that you were able to watch his performance!

The vegan subs look so good, I’m gonna have to try that! I had a random craving for one a few weeks back and luckily there’s a vegan restaurant here that makes them so I was able to satisfy it, but I don’t eat out much because $$$ so I need to try making it at home.

    1. Making them at home is SO much cheaper! And since we had leftover ingredients, I had another one the next night (since I did back to back long runs this week- more about that coming up on Sunday!) And yes- I usually get up between 5 and 5:30, ugh. I don’t want this week to end!

  9. Congratulations to Paul! Placing in such a big competition is always a big deal–another feather before grad school!
That dream about muffin must have felt so real with all those details. That gas station attendant saying cats always find their way home and your irritation was a bit funny though (because it was a dream!). I’d be a bit mad/anxious with Muffin, too, until the dream faded.
I get to relax a bit next week at work since Women’s History Month and all the programming I took on is coming ot an end :)!

    1. An upcoming week with a BIT of relaxation sounds good- you do so much! And thanks- Paul and his group were very happy to get third, no grumbling on their part. They were just happy to be there, happy to be in the finals and happy to win a prize.

  10. Congrats to Paul! How fun that you got to listen to the competition!

I had a hectic week since we landed in Mpls around 7 on Monday night and then I flew to DC the next afternoon. I was able to go for a walk the first night and enjoyed the beautiful flowering trees! And I saw the cherry blossoms along the tidal basin from far away. DC is gorgeous right now. I was very happy to get home last night and sleep in my own bed so that was maybe the best FIG of the week. They boys were very excited to see me and I got lots of hugs. Will was NOT PLEASED that I left for a work trip the day after getting back from Mexico but now I am home until April 22nd – when I will get to meet Maya and another blogger friend in Lansing. I am working a stop in Lansing into my Detroit work trip.

    1. Ooh! Hooray for being home for so long and an upcoming blogger meetup!!! I’ll bet both boys are happy you’ll be home for so long… I hope you’re getting lots of hugs this weekend.

  11. I love that you’re revisiting FIGs! Yay. This week has some ups and downs – mostly ups, but reading this gave me a smile when I needed one.

I have been having such WILD, incredibly detailed/vivid dreams this week. I wonder if it’s some crazy moon cycle messing with our brains during sleep.

Congrats to Paul. How exciting and it’s just amazing to me how talented your whole family is at music. What a great thing to be passionate about <3

Current FIG? It's sunny out today. Overcast days in the early spring here can be COLD, so the sun helps warm things up a bit which is a welcome relief.

    1. Ooh, a cold, sunny spring day sounds amazing. And, I seem to have more vivid dreams when I get more sleep- and I’ve definitely been sleeping more this week.

  12. The sunrises have been SPECTACULAR this week. They really are making my week. Also, we did a date in Milwaukee and one of my co-workers brought in a delicious treat, and I get to leave work early today. I mean, honestly, it’s been a great week.

    1. That all sounds pretty great! And I mean- it’s almost impossible to be depressed while watching the sun rise.

  13. Those are some lovely figs! I need a mug like yours right now- such a nice thought when life is full of worries! Our ginger cat who died last year was the one who would follow us down the street if he could. So many times I realised he was following me and I had to pick him up and carry him back home and lock him in the house! He just wanted to be part of the adventure. I miss that boy! Your muffin looks like my Bells- much more sensible girl kitty.

    1. Aw… orange tabbies are my favorite (I’m hoping for a third cat, which will be an orange tabby!) They’re very affectionate. We had a gray tabby once who would literally follow us all around the block when we went for a walk- it was so funny.

  14. Oh, I love a good FIGS post… I can use all the FIGS I can get right now.
Congrats on your son’s trumpet competition.

I’ve heard of Olipop a few times… is it any good? I haven’t tried it yet.

  15. FIGS! Yay, I love this. You had a very good week, aside from the dream about Muffin. I had a dream a few weeks ago that Eloise had to be put down because she had a really bad disease and it was so sad! I gave her lots of hugs and love the next day.

FIGs for me: celebrating Lucy’s 4th birthday, the pet portrait event (thank god for the instructor who helped us a LOT, lol), and a Barnes & Noble bookstore visit.

  16. Lovely FIGS! My biggest FIG last week was celebrating my daughter’s birthday with family. A good couple of days.

That sunrise is beautiful. Oh, one more FIG – passing rain showers today. I love rain, especially when we’re all home and don’t get caught in it.
