walkers walk… but runners fly

Every Day Counts (Except Tomorrow)

Just kidding! Well- sort of. But before we get into that, I have to mention that Coco is also joining MayBloPoMo! And, just in case anyone is congratulating me on such a genius idea, the credit really goes to Kae. I was just kind of like “Hey, I think I’ll post every day in May because I’m kind of bored” and Kae not only jumped in, but came up with the name, making it an official event.

Okay, let’s talk about tomorrow. I don’t work on Wednesdays, and normally I thoroughly enjoy the day. Sometimes I have to schedule appointments, and I usually have some errands. but I’m just happy that I’m not working. I always find some way to make it fun.

Tomorrow, however, is extra special! I have a mammogram, breast ultrasound, and bone density scan. When I called to schedule them, the woman on the phone was so pleased to tell me I could do them all on the same day! Um… fantastic. I mean, I’m glad I only have to go once, but it’s not going to be a super fun morning.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! In the afternoon I’m taking Sylvie to the vet. Ugh, cats hate the vet so much. They hate the carrier, the car ride, and the whole experience. Not only that- because we got Sylvie as a tiny, tiny kitten, she needed so many shots that I’ve been taking her to an “econo-vet.” They cater to people who rescue animals, and charge a minimal fee.

The price is right, and they’re giving her everything she needs, but- well, the place is unpleasant. The clientele is… kind of strange, and it’s not close. The drive wouldn’t be SO bad, but I always, always hit traffic. Nothing worse than sitting in traffic with a scared, mewing kitten, who’s about to get a shot- after sitting in the waiting room for half an hour with people who are vaping and talking about their 35 cats. Oh, and there are ALWAYS two or three dogs barking the whole time as well. I’m not sure who’s more traumatized by the experience, me or Sylvie.

She has no idea what’s in store for her…

I feel bad talking about the place like that because they’re super nice. But when we’re done with all the kitten shots, and she’s spayed, she’ll do her wellness visits at our nearby vet, which is upscale, expensive, and- I’ve now realized- worth every penny.

Phew, that was a rant. Wish me luck! It’s going to be quite a day.

Do you have anything fun planned for your Wednesday?

  1. I get it! When we got our cat we took him to a low cost clinic for neutering because it was literally something like one tenth the price the regular vet office quoted. The staff there was great, and no complaints about our experience (I’m so grateful the place exists!) but the clinic was definitely in a rougher area with interesting clientele…including a man who stopped to show my children the BULLET he had just had removed from his cat. 😳 It was quite an experience for all of us!

    1. Ha ha… you just described this clinic perfectly (you don’t live in Ft. Lauderdale by any chance???) But- we’re saving hundreds of dollars, so I guess it’s worth it.

  2. We took our dog Genevieve to a place like that for her vaccinations, but unlike your place, the staff was not gentle, so we had to pony up more money and go to a better vet earlier than I would have liked. I don’t know cats, but I wonder if you got her some lickable treats, maybe that would help? The cat at the rescue that I see really loves them.

Either way, tomorrow is going to be a day to get shit done. You in the morning, Sylvie in the afternoon. You both deserve a treat after.

    1. Yes, I meant to comment on that when you wrote the post- our cats LOVE Churu treats!!! Sylvie will definitely be getting some. And- if the staff were not gentle with Sylvie I wouldn’t keep taking her there. But they’re sooo nice. I guess we’re lucky that we have this option.

  3. Jenny, that is a ROUGH day. But, think how wonderful it will feel to get through to the other side. I agree with J—you both deserve a treat at the end of it!!! And maybe a nap together??

    1. Definitely a treat and a nap! Yes, maybe Sylvie will nap with me- she’ll probably be tired after her shot.

  4. That’s a full day. Just think how nice it will be to cross that all of the to do list.
However, you and Sylvie will deserve many treats afterwards.
My cats hate the car ride and the vet, and one hides when we get home and the other carefully pees and poops in the carrier as we drive back to the house.
My Wednesday is last day of classes- I’ll write and print my final so I can be ready for the test day.

    1. Ha- at least Sylvie hasn’t pooped or peed in the carrier (so far- there’s a first time for everything!)
I’m happy for you that the end of school is in sight! Do you teach summer school, or are you off? I’m hoping you have a vacation.

  5. Ok the description of the clientele at the cheap vet cracked me up. I can just picture the vapers talking about their 35 cats lol. Feel like I’ve encountered those people before myself in a couple different contexts. Our cat is an indoor outdoor cat (I know, I know – he was formerly an outdoor only cat before we got him and this was the compromise me struck with him. He gets literally depressed when we have had to keep him inside round the clock. Because he goes outside I’m in the local lost and found pet groups as he sometimes gets spotted and I have to post that he has a home please don’t take him to the spca. Anyway, those groups are full of the sort of people you described.)

Sylvie is gorgeous! Hope your busy Wednesday of not fun stuff goes well and that you and Sylvie enjoy some well deserved fun and treats after it’s all done!

    1. Thank you, Maria! Our older cats are also allowed to go outside. Yes, I know it’s better for them to be inside but it’s hard- they love the outdoors so much. They don’t go very far though. Usually I’ll let them out, and when I check five minutes later they’re just sitting in the sun, on our driveway. Sylvie is not allowed to go out! At least, not yet- she’s too little.

  6. That’s a busy day but at least it will all be done! Good for you for just getting the medical appointments done in one fell swoop. Pulling off the metaphorical bandaid in one big yank!

    1. Yes- but then I have a colonoscopy coming up this summer and I HAVE to go to the dermatologist for a skin check. THEN I’ll be done.

  7. Ugh, I am sending good vibes your way. I mean it’s great to get so many things checked off the to do list, but…woof.

The thing about having a dog is that they love to go places with you, so when I leash Doggo up and head for the car, she acts like she won the lottery and is the happiest soul on earth. I feel so bad when she sees that we’ve arrived at the vet’s office and her mood changes.

    1. Yes- that is the one thing that dogs have over cats. You can actually take them places without tremendous drama. Although it does seem unfair to end up at the vet, ha ha.

  8. Sylvie is a gorgeous cat! I have a very soft spot for grey cats and orange cats. Did you know that research exists on the personality of grey cats? My late grey girl Marlowe fit the description to a T.

Your day was crazy busy–all those medicals. I think it’s good to have all those tests done at one time. It takes up more of your day, but only ONE day.

    1. I have a gray cat and an orange cat!!! And a calico. i’m going to look at the research on gray cats. Right now Sylvie seems pretty wild, but it could just be that she’s a kitten and she’ll calm down in a bit.

  9. Zelda HATES the car. She gets carsick and always shows up to the vet either covered in drool or puke. She’s such a pretty cat, but the vet must think she’s some sort of mucus machine. I hope Sylvie is at least JUST mewing on the car ride.

Today is another crazy day in our house. One of my husband’s colleagues retired last year and we’re going to a tree planting ceremony in his honor after work. Then we have to get home and eat before we go to Costco. I am sort of dreading this endless day.

    1. Yes, at least Sylvie didn’t throw up, pee, or poop. Things could definitely be worse.
I also dread those endless days. Once work is over, I like to be home and winding down. Good luck with it.

  10. What a quar-fecta of appointments, none of which are fun, all of which are necessary. I had my mammogram a few weeks ago. I remember people complaining about how awful they are but I feel like they are not bad at all. But like I told the radiology tech at my appt, once you’ve had your nipple bit by a teething baby, everything else pales in comparison. Lol. I also had a bone density scan in the fall. There was a 6 month wait for that appt! I had no idea they were in such hot demand. My bones looked good luckily despite taking gobs of steroids for the last 3-5 years.

Good luck w/ Sylvia’s appt. That place does sound unpleasant!

  11. I agree- mammograms aren’t fun, but they’re not exactly painful either, at least for me. Just uncomfortable, but it doesn’t last long. Congrats on your bones- I hope mine are okay. I guess I’ll find out soon!
