walkers walk… but runners fly

Greeting from Blustery Tampa!!!

Boy is it cold here! I mean… not for you northerners, but for us Floridians… brr.

That wind is no joke!

Let’s backtrack to Wednesday. You might remember that I had a LONG cardio session planned at the gym. Normally I would have done a long trail run, but my calf has been bothering me so instead I cobbled together 4 hours of cardio, split between the bike, elliptical, and running on the treadmill.

DONE! Within that four hours, I did 90 minutes of running on the treadmill, and my calf did just fine.

All the gold stars to my calf- you did it!

Then… we blasted off to Tampa! We got in on Wednesday night (it’s a four hour drive from where we live) and Thursday morning I went with my daughter to register. I got my chaperone badge…

Note to self: do not take any more photos from this angle.

… and she got her badge. Lately I’ve had some frustrations with her (just normal teenage stuff, but it can be a lot) and when I looked at her badge, which says “All State Student” I realized I’m proud of her. She’s an all state player! Sometimes I forget to appreciate the good things.

Now I’m hanging out, seeing friends, and reading! I brought along a book I knew I would love:

I was right- I love it.

Coming up tomorrow- a bookish blogger adventure!

Have you ever been to Tampa?

What would you do with a few days off in a different city?

  1. So glad your calf is keeping quiet, Jenny! Four hours of cardio is insane, haha! Well done especially on those 90 minutes of treadmill.
    Enjoy Tampa!

    1. Thank you Catrina! The four hour went relatively quickly- I think it’s because I broke it up. If you told me I had to do four hours just on the bike, I would cry.

  2. Yay for the four hour “long run equivalent” and a well behaved calf! Have fun in Tampa. I am both jealous and can’t wait to hear about your adventures with Stephany.

It was in the low 50s here in NoLa yesterday which was way warmer than the 20 degrees and snow that they had at home, but still it was pretty chilly! I had to wear a light coat and even my gloves when I was out. It’s going to be warmer today.

    1. Yes, I would imagine NOLA could be nippy this time of year. And, a recap of our fun bookish adventure will be coming up!

  3. Jenny! I am wagging my finger at you. Do NOT take selfies that low! Shoot from above!!!! Find the lighting and shoot from above! That is all.
(that’s not all, congrats to your daughter, I hope it goes well)

    1. Haha, I know Nicole!!! I didn’t realize what I had done to myself until later and it was that photo or nothing. I think I’ve learned my lesson!

  4. I would be looking first for bookstores, especially independents or used books, then for yarn stores, and then perhaps see if there was a cat cafe! This does sound fun, though I doubt I will be planning a trip to a random city just to do it. Enjoy your time!

    1. That’s funny because we did a cat cafe and bookstore last year! I’m sure there’s a yarn store here as well, but since i don’t knit I won’t be going there. (Should I take up knitting???)

  5. That is COLD. You do not need to qualify that for us northerners. I feel like when it’s colder in Florida, it feels extra cold, maybe because it’s a damp cold, which is much worse than a dry cold IMO. I feel bad for anyone who is vacationing there and was expecting warm temps! Burr!

It’s good to have something to remind you of how awesome your kid is in the midst of challenging behavior. I need that with my deeply feeling kid… The last couple of mornings, he woken on his own and has come downstairs and colored until I came down. That is a MASSIVE improvement so I am giving him lots of praise and told him I’d buy him some new markers since he only has 4 that aren’t dried out (our art supplies are pretty bad since the boys usually aren’t into drawing/coloring). But then in the next breath he was laying on the floor, screaming about not wanting to go to his friend’s bday party tomorrow and refusing to brush his teeth… He contains multitudes, in other words…

Have the best time with Stephany!!!!

  6. jenny, I am waving to you FROM TAMPA. I am from the cold of Chicago- but this weather is crazy cold. I knew it would be cold, but I was ill prepared to zoom around on the college campus yesterday on a golf cart. The wind was crazy to begin with and on the golf cart? It was insane.

We fly home tonight at 6:15. Leaving the hotel soon and might shop or check out downtown Tampa doff a bit. Was unsure if our visit would carry over to today – so we left it open. Would’ve been an ideal day for us to hang by the pool. *sob*

    1. I thought about you Ernie!!! It sucks that you came down from Chicago… to this. Yes, it was the wind that did us in. We were walking a lot and it was really unpleasant. At least today it’s sunny and only slightly windy… not like yesterday. BRR.

  7. Have a great time! As always, I’m mind boggled (and impressed and proud of you!) about the 4 hour cardio session. Way to get it done despite some challenges! And awwww about your daughter. There definitely are distinct challenges that come with teens, that’s for sure! And it’s very difficult to “control” almost adult people, too. I know it can feel very hard to manage toddlers/ little kids too, for sure, but at least there’s a certain element of “I’m the parent and this is what has to happen for your own good!” It’s a lot harder to do that with teens!

  8. Hang on – I Just commented, but maybe there’s a delay in when it pops up? I’ve never noticed.

As I was saying (delete if this is a repeat), I’m waving to you FROM TAMPA- this weather blows, so un-Florida-like. We knew it would be chilly but the wind yesterday while driving around campus on a gold cart was insane. We are off to explore Tampa, as her visit wrapped up last night. We fly home this evening.

  9. That is a lot of gym cardio, Jenny. All the gold stars for sticking with it and gold stars to your calf.

Have the BEST time. I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures with Stephany <3

  10. Oooh that is cold! We’re actually in the mid-70s now so high temps in the 50s and 60s is chilly!

I hope you enjoy your time in Tampa despite the weather. The only place I’ve been to in Florida is Orlando (Disney World) and that was 20 years ago (what?!), Florida is just so far away from where I am that it’s not likely to be a typical destination for me. But the beaches seem really nice!

  11. Guess what – it’s cold here too! I even got a severe weather warning (I mean I felt that was little overkill, the low was 40 . . .).
I want to read a Robert Galbraith!!

  12. A 4-hour cardio session! That’s amazing. I miss the gym so much. I can’t wait to get back into my workout routine once I get on a treatment plan.

I feel better about all the northerners saying that it was cold this week, ha!
