walkers walk… but runners fly

Outdoor Adventure

It’s time for Tuesday Topics! Today’s prompt: Share your favorite outdoor adventure spot. Why yes, I DO have a favorite spot- Yamato Scrub Natural Area in Boca Raton, Florida.

Yamato Scrub has a wonderful network of trails. I’ve done many long training runs there of up to 20 miles. I’ve spent so many hours on these trails, I feel like I know every inch of them and how they connect to one another. We don’t have mountains or forests down here, but I call this trail “Florida beautiful.”

I miss it! I haven’t been there in a while, and one of the things I want to do- in designing my summer– is get back to trail running. Yamato Scrub is a 25 minute drive from my house, and during the season it was hard to tack on 50 minutes of driving to an already long run adventure. But I can do it in the summer!

Sometimes I see my “running spirit animal” on this trail, ha ha…

Summer Hydration

This week’s Tuesday Topic is: Favorite warm-weather snack, meal, or hydration tip. I don’t have any “tips” but I do have

  1. Oh, I hope you get lots of runs in there this summer. It is indeed beautiful, but I have to assume early morning or late evening would be best for the heat and humidity. And yay! A tortoise! So cool!

  2. Glad to read this as I’ve been there!!!

My favorite is probably Thacher Park. Lots of trails. Very scenic. I don’t run there often but I enjoy walking there.

    1. Yes, you and I walked all over these trails! That was fun, although I will always associate it with my disastrous 50 mile race where I sprained my ankle and DNF’d, because it was the same week (obviously before the race, since I couldn’t walk afterwards.)

  3. The trails there look so smooth and soft! Most of the trails here are pretty rocky, except for the washes which are really sandy, so I’m jealous. I love the tortoise too — we have them here but obviously they’re desert tortoises so probably a little different.

I’m lucky enough to live close to several areas with beautiful trails so it’s hard to pick just one! But my favorite would probably have to be Saguaro National Park. It’s about 30 minutes away so not the closest but I’m still able to go there during the week and it’s cool to be able to run in a National Park on a regular basis!

    1. Yes the trails are mostly smooth. Some sand, and occasionally some roots. But I can’t complain. I know your trails are more rocky, but you live in SUCH A BEAUTIFUL AREA!!! I would put up with some rocks to live there.

  4. I love your trail running friend! He is so cute. That spot looks gorgeous, I can see why you love it. Your plans to do more trail running this summer sound excellent!

My favorite outdoor adventure spot is probably Big Sky – I love skiing there so much, and the views are stunning.

  5. My favorite outdoor spot is my parents lake home! I love being by the water. It’s so soothing and it provides so much entertainment for my boys. Locally, I love our chain of lakes and the paths along the creek near our house!

  6. I think it’s pretty and not just Florida pretty!

We have a gorgeous local park here, too. It has green hilly sections and forested areas. I like its variety!
