Yes, you know it- Pumpkin Palooza has begun! It’s my favorite time of year, and today I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the ULTIMATE COFFEE DATE! I’ll be drinking Earl Grey tea, of course (woohoo!)
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you all about our new kitten, Foxy. He is settling in so well. All kittens are hilarious and have their own unique personalities. One funny thing about him is his meow, which is a tiny, high pitched “mew.” (As opposed to Muffin as a kitten- her meow for some weird reason sounded like “ngar.”)
Sometimes when Foxy gets REALLY excited his “mew” will become elongated. So for example when it’s time to eat, and I’m carrying his food to the other room (we keep the cats separated at mealtimes for now) he’ll trot along beside me, excitedly squeaking out “Meeeeeeeeeeeeeew!” It is HILARIOUS.
At first Muffin was upset about Foxy, and she spent the first two days hiding in the garage. BUT! She’s slowly but surely warming up to him. She’ll still hiss sometimes- he’s a little too exuberant for her right now- but she’ll comfortably be in the same room with him as long as he’s not pouncing on her.

Another thing I would talk about over coffee is books! I read ten books in August, which is a lot for me. My favorite was The Anomaly by Herve Le Tellier.

I have some great books lined up for September, starting with this one:

I’m about 1/3 of the way through but so far I’m loving it.
The last thing I would share over coffee is, I’ve added oatmeal back to my diet! My stomach is doing well with it. Here’s the first pumpkin oatmeal of the season:

Do you have any funny cat stories?
What are you reading now?

Jenny! I am so glad that oatmeal is working for you so far. I was thinking about you and your food situation! I was going to ask how it was going. I never really figured mine out completely, but it is definitely better than it was. One thing that I was having every day at home and now am never having was Almond milk. I don’t know what your milk situation is, but has your gastro said anything about the carrageenans or anything? Anyway, I guess that is what we would talk about if we were having coffee (tea)!
I have been making my own hemp milk- just hemp seeds and water in the blender. Yes, there are some weird ingredients in the plant milks you buy from the store. The next time I get to Trader Joes I’m going to get their soymilk and try that out (only ingredients are organic soybeans and water- the best soymilk out there right now!)
I remember so well the early days with Doggo and the joy of getting to know her. At first they’re just cute furry things, and as with people, it takes time to get to know them and for them to settle in to their new home. Do you know anything about Foxy’s backstory?
I’m all in on The Road to Tender Hearts.
Yay for pumpkin oatmeal for breakfast. It is officially fall.
I don’t know a lot about Foxy’s history- I know he had been in a foster home for a while. I also know his birthday is February 14th!!!
We’re a dog family but my kids have cats. We have some cute photos of our dog and their cat on opposite ends of the sofa — this was pre-Scooby. He flips out.
Glad you are enjoying your tea and oatmeal!
A cat usually gets a long better with a dog than with another cat! I think Muffin really would have liked a dog friend, but we’ve always been a cat family .Dogs are too much work for me.
Yay for the return of pumpkin oatmeal! Hopefully you can continue to reintroduce some foods and your stomach can handle them.
I don’t have a cat but my dog for some reason HATES cats when she sees them on her walks in my parents’ neighborhood! If she sees one, she rears up on her hind legs and gets agitated. I don’t think she would actually attack a cat, probably just chase them, but her response to seeing them is so ridiculous. One time she got so upset that she pulled me down and broke a pair of my sunglasses — that wasn’t so funny!
Maybe she just wants to play with them? What kind of dog do you have? Do you ever run with her? Sometimes I think I could have a dog (someday- not now) and I would want one who could be a running companion.
She’s very mixed, she has some hound breeds in her which are very strong in her personality — she LOVES to sniff, and I quickly learned after I adopted her (in 2015) that she wouldn’t be a good running companion because she would sprint and then come to a dead stop to sniff something haha! She’s now 11 and has arthritis so she can’t even really run in the yard anymore sadly, but she still loves her walks!
Aw… well walking a dog is also really enjoyable.
Yay for pumpkin season. It is such a delicious flavour and I MUST get some pumpkin pies soon. Life is too short to not enjoy these seasonal treats.
I’m so glad Foxy is starting to integrate with the other felines in the house. I hope everyone becomes fast furry friends!
I’ve been having overnight oats and oatmeal pancakes on a rotating basis for breakfast and they’re so yummy.
Yes, get those pumpkin pies! As you said- life is too short. Before you know it, it will be gingerbread season and we must get our fill of pumpkin before then!
Foxy is so cute. I’m glad Muffin is figuring out her new reality involves a hyperactive kitten!
Zelda has had a toy since she’s a kitten that she loves. It’s a soft brown ball. She walks around with it in her mouth, yowling. It’s very funny and finding the brown ball (it’s regularly under the fridge or on the other side of the door leading upstairs) is part of our bedtime routine, so we’ll hear her yowling just as we’re drifting off to sleep. It makes me happy that teenage Zelda is still playing with toys (or toy singular, I should say) like she did when she was a baby.
Oh that is SO CUTE! I think I’ve heard something about this brown ball on your blog. As I said- cats are hilarious.
I’m back to eating oatmeal again, too. I add protein power to it to increase my protein intake. I’m focusing on my macros these days in an effort to feel better about my body composition… I eat mine with a banana on top + cinnamon. It’s been rather cold in the morning (45!!) so this has been a great breakfast for chilly mornings.
I’m glad Muffin is adjusting to Foxy! I cannot imagine introducing another cat to Oscar. It would NOT go well. She is one feisty lady. My funny cat story is that both boys were crawling on the floor, pretending to be cats this morning. And then they fought over cat names that I suggested (I suggested Socks, Muffin, Mittens, or Foxy – you were on my mind this morning and I told them about your and Suzanne’s new cat) as they both wanted to be muffin. They can fight over the oddest of things.
Ha ha… I’ll tell Muffin she has a very desirable name!
I also add protein powder to my oatmeal. My recipe right now is oats, protein powder, pumpkin puree, salt and pumpkin spices. Oh, and some stevia to sweeten it. SO good!
Yay for Earl Grey and oatmeal! So glad your digestion issues are in a place where you can enjoy some of your faves again.
Okay, I have a funny cat story. My cat is obsessed with our robot vacuum, and I ran the vacuum this morning for the first time since Leo got his surgery. Well. he was all over the vacuum, attacking it, jumping on it, doing flips. So I sequestered Leo in my office where he can hear the vacuum but not touch it. And he is trying to open the office door! He keeps jumping up and trying to land on the door handles! When that doesn’t work, he lies down and pokes his paws under the door. To be separated from his true love is excruciating!
I pre-ordered the newest Galbraith novel and started it the other day. It starts during the Christmas season so I keep thinking, oh Jenny has to read this!
First of all… Leo. That is too funny. I can picture Foxy being obsessed with a robot vacuum as well. Second- I CANNOT WAIT to read that book! I’m trying to decide whether I’m going to just buy it or put a hold on it at the library Since it starts during Christmas, I wouldn’t mind waiting a couple months to read it.
Awww congrats on the new addition. Glad Muffin is warming up to Foxy. I was worried when we got Monty but now he and Romeo are the best of friends. Sorry about the GI issues. Hope the oatmeal works for you and yay for everything pumpkin! I am here for all of it!
Oh good, a pumpkin ally! I think dogs usually get along better than cats…. but I only have cats so I’m not certain about that.
I’m so glad that Muffin is starting to tolerate Foxy!! Big steps!
I know- it’s big! They’ve made a lot of progress in seven days.
Yay for the Foxy-Muffin amity!
Yay for the return of oatmeal!
And yay for the return of your pumpkin decor, Jenny! I recognize it, and this means I’ve been reading for a year now :)!!
Wow, time really flies! We’ve been blogger friends for a year???!
Congrats on your new kitten and for the temporary truce LOL. I hope it holds up. That was my biggest concern when we decided to add our puppy to the mix a few months ago but our dogs have found a good co-existance.
And, yay for the return of oatmeal!
Peaceful coexistence is important! Glad your dogs have achieved it (but oof- puppies are a lot of work, right?)
Oatmeal is my go to everyday. I need to get pumpkin.
My cat meows when he’s about to do something naughty. And it’s often.
Ha ha, that’s funny- he’s giving himself away!
And… I love oatmeal so much! How did I live without it all those months???
I do remember that you are a very early embrace of pumpkin season! Lol. I read a bunch of great books this past month as well. Lots of thrillers are out this summer which are my fave
Thrillers are good reading in the summer! And… it’s never too early for pumpkin (ha) but September is my usual start!
our cats are still not getting alone, mostly Cookie chases Bubble around the house. I am just waiting for Bubble to grow big enough to be able to defend herself. the funny story is that bubble prefers cookie’s food over her own. two bowls side by side, she’d pass her own bowl and eats cookie’s. I wonder if it tastes better.
I love your pumpkin oatmeal set up! how do you make it?
First, I need a cat! Then I can have funny cat stories. Your two are adorable.
Those books both look awesome. I just read “The Seven Year Slip” for book club, which was cute. And now I’m reading the second book in the Fourth Wing series, which is enjoyable. I love huge books, so this is right up my alley.
Oh, even though I don’t own cat – I have a crazy cat story. My uncle had two cats: Wacko and Leon. He had a series of strokes and he was so young. Sadly. My mom and her sister decided to replace his couch while he was in the hospital. This is in the last 80s. I was in high school. Well the cats had ripped open the back of the couch and they liked to hide inside the couch. When the new couch arrived, a charity came to pick up the old couch. yep, the one cat went missing shortly after that and my mom and aunt worried he’d run out during the delivery. (uncle lived in a first floor apt). My mom finally called the charity and the cat was alive and was still hiding in the couch. It had been days. Maybe he was sneaking out at night to eat or drink?
I’m reading The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store and I’m having a very tough time getting into it. Ugh. It’s for book club and I hate to quit, but I’m at page 60 and I’m like, Huh?
I know I shouldn’t point this out, but I just want to SQUEEZE Muffin’s little pooch that’s falling off the ledge. Lila has the same problem. 😉
Yay for Foxy! He really is sooooo darn cute. Is he snuggly?
Lila has that same high-pitched “mew” and I die every time!
That’s so funny about Foxy’s meow. I’m happy to hear that the cats are starting to get along together. 🙂
Oh wow, ten is a lot of books to read in one month. Good for you! I’m currently reading a book I picked up in southern Utah written by a local author. It’s called The Moab Story: From Cowpokes to Bike Spokes.
yay for new kitties!!! my babies (now 2…) are brothers and they are pretty much like foxy and muffin with their meows. Bas is a tiny high-pitched “mew” (sounds so sad sometimes) and Mr Pickles is a full-on ‘ngar’ (weird that I pretty much know that sound hahaha)!
I’m currently reading nothing though I started and intend to finish ‘The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper’ before the end of the year. I am also putting books on Vinted to make space and a bit of cash in the meantime.
I’m so glad you’re able to eat oatmeal again! I’m assuming you eat it hot or warm…I went down an overnight oats rabbit hole after Elisabeth said how much she enjoys them, because I tried them once and I did something wrong because they just tasted like raw wet oats. BUT, when I did my search, it said that soaking them overnight does something that makes them easier to digest for lots of folks. Something to consider, if you like cold oats.
I’m glad things are starting to lighten up with the kitties, too. <3
