walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- A Festive Week

Goodbye Thanksgiving, Hello Christmas! We really fit a lot into this week. There were workouts as usual (although once again, it was not perfect!) Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown, and a huge shoutout to San and all the bloggers who participated in NaBloPoMo as we wrap up the month!

Monday

I started the day with Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. Once again I vow to do yoga every day. (Hahahaha…. that’s funny). I also did an upper body strength workout.

Tuesday

A 4 mile run to start the day.

I had every intention of doing yoga later in the day, but we worked hard to get the house ready. My son arrived late at night, AND we had to move furniture around to make space for our Christmas tree.

Wednesday

Oof. My low back was talking to me this morning. I think what it was saying was, “Hey, you moved a couch yesterday, idiot.” I did not one, but TWO yoga videos- Adriens’s yoga for lower back mobility, and her yoga for hips and lower back release.

It was a busy day of pie making, and we got our Christmas tree!

In between all the activity I fit in hip stability exercises.

Thursday

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I started the day with a 5 mile run.

Then it was cooking and lots of eating. My son was supposed to fly back to Chicago on Saturday, and we were getting concerned because of the winter storm warning. The airline apparently also was concerned, because they told us we could switch the flight to another day for free. Yay! He is now flying back on Sunday.

Friday

Oof. I really didn’t feel like getting up today- but my daughter was up EARLY to go to the mall with her friend, and I have a cat who needs a thyroid pill. Since I was up, I went to the gym before work! It was a leg day, plus abs.

Squats, as always.

Saturday

4 mile run before work! It was in the low 60s- lovely running weather. Meanwhile we were hearing that hundreds of flights into O’Hare were canceled. Good thing we changed that flight!

Sunday

Arg! The only problem is, now my son has to get to the airport at 4 am. TBD who the driver will be…

On tap for the rest of the day- Christmas-ing up the house! The tree is decorated, but there’s lots more to put out.

How was your Thanksgiving? Were you affected by the storm?

If you celebrate Christmas, do you have your tree up?

  1. I think I can see the purpose of the Weekly Rundown that Kim and Deborah are hosting now, Jenny. And do appreciate that even if one did not run on any given day, any workouts or yoga that one does on that day count.
You can actually find out about how my Thanksgiving was in my 2nd comment to the blog post “Tuesday Topics” that you wrote on Nov. 25 of this year, Jenny. No, I was not affected by the storm. I actually rarely have trees up in the residence where I live, but my parents live in the same city as I do, and they actually do decide to have a tree up in their residence, and I think that they’ll ask me to help them with having a tree up in the weeks to come.

    1. Yes, the Weekly Rundown is just an opportunity for everyone to share whatever workouts they did that week, and we encourage each other and offer support.
Have fun helping your parents with the tree!

  2. Good call on changing the flight! We had about 8 in of snow. I spent some time in the morning shoveling, then another shift in the afternoon after it mostly stopped. So that’s my exercise for the day. Also baked a batch of cookies for snacking and a batch of cinnamon swirl bread to warm the house. I ate too much of that, which canceled the exercise out. I hope your son makes it back safely!

    1. He has spent today traveling! But I think he’ll make it- after a delay in Dallas he’s on the second flight to Chicago.
Cookies and cinnamon swirl bread sound so good! It’s the holidays so exercise counts double and calories don’t count at all ; )

  3. We got less snow as the storm was worse south of us. But we still ended up with about 4-5” on top of the 2-3” we got earlier in the week. And we will get more this week! We had a belated Thanksgiving last night at Phil’s cousins and the driving conditions were not the best so I am glad Phil was our driver and we have an SUV!

Our decorations are all up and I love them! The house is so cozy right now! Your tree looks great! I hope Paul’s flight back to Chicago is uneventful!!

  4. I hope your son gets back OK. I’m sure it’s better to be going TO Chicago vs. trying to leave with all the back-up from yesterday. I have a quick trip there NEXT week and it looks like it will be COLD.

Your tree looks lovely! I don’t think we’ll do ours for 2 more weeks b/c I’m away next weekend. 🙁

    1. Paul should be back in Chicago soon- his connecting flight was delayed but eventually took off. And yes- it does look like it’s getting cold there! Bring all your cold weather gear!

  5. Your son is going to be pretty surprised with all the snow we’ve gotten over the past 24 hours! I’m getting ready to head out into it with my Trail Sisters. Stay tuned for that, lol

I’m planning to do the tree this afternoon. That is, if I can get the hubs to set it up while I’m out running!!!

    1. Enjoy your snowy run! We’ve been following that storm closely. Good luck getting the tree up and hope the hubby cooperates.

  6. Not affected by the storm here. My son will be driving back to campus, but should be out of the snow area within an hour on his drive. The snow does make everything look pretty wonderful! Did you use furniture sliders moving the couch? My life has changed since we bought those. No effort at all to push everything all over the place! I’m glad you got an extra day with your son and enjoyed your family time (and hopefully that early wakeup today wasn’t too bad). We spent all of yesterday decorating the house, putting up the tree, and now I need to clean up afterwards.
Good job getting those workouts in this week when you could. I’m sure you will be back on your regular yoga game this upcoming week 😉

    1. We don’t have furniture sliders. The problem is we have a carpet so we can’t just slide- there’s lifting involved.
Glad your kids won’t have an issue making is back to school! What a weekend to have a huge storm, when everyone is traveling for Thanksgiving.

  7. we decorated in the snow yesterday and it was amazing. Ben adn I also did our first snowy run, but today it’s too thick— I think I have to run on the elliptical boooooooo

    1. Well- I bet by tomorrow the snow will be cleared enough to run outside again. I’m decorating inside on a gray and drizzly day here- outside decs will have to go up next weekend!

  8. My kids flight was also canceled yesterday to Chicago and they are now stuck until Monday. Crazy start to winter! Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving. Hope your body is recovering -it’s a lot of work!

  9. Your tree looks so pretty! I know how much you love the Christmas season (I do to) so enjoy every second of it!

Sooooooo, who ended up taking your son to the airport?

  10. The storm wasn’t bad up here. We got about an inch of snow where I live, but just a few miles north they got a ton of snow. I took Hubs to see a new park where I had taken Doggo earlier in the week, and there was a good six inches of snow on the ground and we could barely see the trail. It was only a mile hike, but it was quite the workout. At one point Doggo started doing the worm in the snow drifts.

Hopefully your husband got 4am airport duty! Hubs and Stepson #2 had to get up at 5 today for him to catch the bus back to college.

    1. Yep, my husband was the airport driver! i offered to go, but he wanted to. I’ll bet Doggo loved that snowy hike!!!

  11. Your tree looks so festive and colorful! I put mine up last weekend. It has ribbons and lights, but I’m gonna add more ribbons/bows and some ornaments to it this week. I’ve got the decorations, throughout the house, in motion. I don’t have as much space here, so I have to be selective to avoid things getting too cluttered. First World Probs!

  12. Glad your son was able to stay an extra day! No storms here, our weather has actually been pretty perfect — mid 70s and sunny so I can’t complain, though we are cooling down into the 60s this week.

I’m gonna help decorate my parents’ big tree before heading home this afternoon. My tree has already been up for a couple of weeks!

    1. Ooh! I like 60s but I’ll take 70s as well. We got a lot of rain this weekend, which is unusual for us in November, but makes things feel kind of cozy.

  13. I’m sorry to hear about the storm and issues with your son’s flight. Hope all goes smoothly. Here we woke up to minus degrees but the weather is fine otherwise. I would have gone out walking today if I wasn’t so busy with fixing up the house for Christmas mode. We don’t have a tree (and if we decide to have one, it won’t be up until closer to Christmas) but I have my candleholders and electric lights up and will work on more decor during the week.

    1. Yes, the tree is only part of the decorating process! I do a lot of other decorating around the house, and I’m still working on that.

  14. My husband put up the outside lights yesterday, that’s as far as we’ve gotten so far. It sounds like you had a really good week. I love that Adriene has specific practices for specific problems/goals, etc.

  15. I want a piece of that pie!!

    No storm yet… Tuesday!

I’ve started a little decorating but not much until next weekend…

I used to do a lot more when the kids were home…

  16. We got so much snow. I’m so glad your son was able to change his flight. I’m bummed not to be able to run outside right now. Maybe we’ll have a heat wave and it’ll melt. One can hope.

The storm meant that two city boys hightailed it downtown earlier than planned, so that sucked. Curly’s team made it to the championship game for the turkey shoot and the game was cancelled Saturday because of the snow. I hope they reschedule, but that’ll probably be tough with everyone’s schedules starting to fill with conference games.

  17. It’s great that you were able to change your son’s flight and even spend more time with him! Sounds like a good week with the kids home. We had snow in Cleveland but no snow in Connecticut where we were celebrating thanksgiving. Luckily we drove back on Friday evening and by then the snow had stopped. I was not happy to see the snow when we returned though! I’m not good at running outside in the snow especially when it starts to melt and gets icy so I think I’ll be inside for a little while. We just got our tree and put up decorations last night! I love how festive our home feels.

  18. Sounds like a great week! After having to be at the airport at 5AM for an outbound flight and 3AM for an inbound, I’m absolutely prepared for those sorts of mornings LOL. I hope he got back ok.

No storm here, but we are supposed to be getting wind and rain this week. I’m ignoring the forecast. It doesn’t fit my vibe.

Some of Christmas is up. TBD if I get the rest going. I’m tired.
