walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Building an Ark

Well, that was different. This week was all about rain and more rain. It definitely affected workouts! I’m linking up as usual with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Rundown (and of course joining San and crew for NaBloPoMo!) Here’s how this soggy week went…

Sunday

Yay! We turned the clocks back! I had a relaxing start to the day, and finally went for a run before dinner. 5 miles, and oh yeah, now it’s getting dark at 6 pm!

Monday

This was a gloomy, rainy day. My daughter didn’t go to school because it was a “senior skip day”, so I slept in a little, planning to walk after work, but by then it was pouring rain. I napped instead and meant to do an upper body strength session after dinner, but I… forgot??? I can’t even explain it, but the evening just got away from me. It ended up being an unintended day off.

Tuesday

Wow, we REALLY got a lot of rain overnight, and it was still raining. A trail run just wasn’t in the cards, so I went to the gym and ran 10 miles on the treadmill.

Polar opposite of a trail run.

There was no school because of election day, and it was a good afternoon for staying home. A lot of the roads were flooded, and it was STILL RAINING. In the evening we got the call that our school would be closed the next day because of flooding. My daughter was elated.

Wednesday

Okay, this is crazy. Still raining, and there’s so much water. My husband went for a run and reported that he had to cut through someone’s backyard to avoid the flooding. I debated where to run, and when there was a short break in the rain I got out for 4 miles- avoiding the most flooded areas.

It was interesting that the 10 mile treadmill run was harder on my legs than a longer trail run. This was a slow, plodding run, and when the rain started again and I heard thunder, I wasn’t sad to stop at 4 miles.

At night, I did a full body strength workout, which was badly needed. And then- we found out that school was closed again for Thursday. I think this was the best week of the year for my daughter.

Thursday

The rain has stopped! So much water everywhere though.

In the morning I did Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout, and after work I walked for 45 minutes. It was my first walk of the whole week!

In the evening we got a call that school was finally open again, but that there was still a lot of water in the parking lot, and the students should wear shoes they didn’t mind getting dirty. Um… okay.

Friday

As we were driving to school in the daylight, I realized this is the first time my daughter had been there since the time change! What a week.

After I dropped her off, I did a new-to-me yoga video that I learned about from Engie. It’s yoga for low back pain and hip stretches.  I liked this video, and it was fun to do something other than Adriene for a change.

After work- a 5 mile run.

Saturday

Time for some hip TLC. I did a hip mobility routine and then some lower body strength that focuses on the hips, like runner’s touch and one leg sit-to-stand.

At night- a short upper body strength workout while watching UM lose to Notre Dame. Sob.

Sunday

On tap- a run at some point. We’re looking ahead to much nicer weather- phew!

Did you have any crazy weather this week?

How is the time change working out for you?
