walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- It’s Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!!  I hope everyone is having a spooky day!  I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah for this weekly rundown- here’s how it went.

Monday

I started the week with a 45 minute slow flow yoga class on the Peloton app with Denis Morton.  I see a lot of Denis these days, and for the month of November I’ll be seeing him even more!  We’ll get to that later.

Tuesday

Early morning three mile run!  It was dark when I started, but getting light as I finished.

I was really happy I got this run in, because I had an 8:30 am appointment to get my second shockwave treatment on my foot. OUCH.  This one definitely hurt more than the last one, but that’s okay.  No pain, no gain- right?  Last week I went for a run in the afternoon after my treatment, but I couldn’t even imagine doing that this time.  My foot was really tender.  I did do a 20 minute yoga flow in the afternoon (a hamstring focus) and even that bothered my foot a little.

Wednesday

All was well!  My foot felt pretty good (I mean… all things considered…) and I did a 45 minute power yoga class.  In my training log I just wrote down “the hard one” because this is the hardest yoga class I’ve found so far.  I described it last week- it involves Warrior 3, pistol squats, and one legged bridges.  It’s possible I gave the impression that I was absolutely nailing this workout, because in the comments people were complimenting me on my pistol squats.  Ha!  I’m really struggling through this, using yoga blocks to assist me (which even Denis says are essential.) But I’m determined to get better at it, so you’ll be seeing “the hard one” come up a lot.

Thursday

Another early morning three mile run, and this time I was treated to this sunrise.

When I started this run, my knees were a little achy.  It went away quickly, but I still had a few moments of worry and stress.  Then I put two and two together…. those pistol squats.  I think I’m not really strong enough for that workout yet, I’m pushing myself anyway, and my knees were letting me know.  Duly noted, knees!  I’m going to continue to work at it, but I’ll modify the squats more for now.

In the afternoon I wanted to do a yoga class, but I was so tired when I got home from work that I took a nap, and when I woke up from the nap I was groggy so I just sat on the couch and ate pretzels.  Hmmm.  This will not be happening next week, when my November yoga streak begins.

Friday

Yoga today and no excuses.  I did a 45 minute slow flow class.  Originally I was going to do “the hard one” again, but I decided to give my knees a break, just in case.  I’ll hit that class again next week.

Saturday

In the morning I did an “express workout:” One mile walk, one mile run, and a quick 10 minute yoga class focus on hamstrings.  On the run I used my Metrotimer app to work on cadence a little.

I got home from work in time to see the second half of the Baylor football game- which turned out to be the good half, because Baylor came from behind to win!  We enjoyed a Halloween “charcuterie board” while we watched..

I almost hesitate to post the picture, because I know certain people who actually take classes on how to prepare a charcuterie board (hi Jenn!) and I just throw some vegan cheese and crackers on a board, add some olives and call it a day.  It was yummy though!

Later in the afternoon I did a 30 minute power yoga class.  As I mentioned, all my yoga classes this week were on the Peloton app with Denis Morton.  He’s the best!

Sunday

We were expecting a cooldown today, but it only got down to 66 with 87% humidity.  So I won’t be getting out my parka quite yet.  Still, 66 is better than 86… or 96.  I did a five mile run, and wore my orange tank top for Halloween.

Ran so fast I was just a blur… ha ha.

And now- October is almost over, which means November goals start tomorrow!  I’ll be posting every day in November as part of National Blog Posting Month, and doing a yoga class every single day.  And running of course!  It’s hard to make any concrete running goals, but right now my goal is to stay on my feet and be able to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving.

Hope everyone is having a great Halloween!

Do you dress up for Halloween? – I like to decorate and eat Halloween-themed foods, but I don’t dress up.

Are you excited to start November? – I’m excited for the holidays, and I can’t wait to see my son at Thanksgiving!

  1. Oh, I’m glad your planned yoga streak isn’t due to another injury! But, yes, it is possible to overdo it with yoga. I strained my back trying to get my money’s worth out of a free one week trial of CorePowerYoga back in the day. 😉

I won’t dress up to give out candy, but I do hope we get some trick-or-treaters!

    1. Yes, I have to make sure I alternate regular yoga flows with the power classes. If anyone could injure themselves doing yoga, it would be me.

  2. That shockwave treatment sounds painful! Hopefully it will really start to help you heal. Love the idea of a yoga streak. I’ve been doing some short yoga videos a few days a week this month, but I find its so hard to keep up with.

    1. If you’re trying to add yoga into everything you’re already doing, I can see why it’s hard for you. The reason I’m able to do a yoga streak like this is that I’m hardly running at all (sigh.). I need something to challenge me!

  3. You have plenty of time to plan running goals. Now the main goal is the total recover from injury. You are working well by the treatments, yoga, walking and the right mileage of running.
Here only the younger kids dress up for Halloween but only because some pubs and restaurants have organized entertainment with pizza and sweets; the house are not decorated.

    1. That’s a great way to look at it- I have lots of time to plan running goals. It feels weird not to be working towards anything, running-wise. I have to remind myself that I’m working towards recovery. Thanks for your comment!

  4. We always had a big Halloween potluck at work, either on Halloween or the Friday prior. A lot of the fun-loving peeps dressed up (including me). That all came to a crashing halt last year, and we decided it wasn’t quite the right time to resurrect it this year, so **sigh** I usually dress up to hand out candy tot he trick-or-treaters, because why not? Good for you on that big yoga goal! You mentioned pistol squats…they don’t bother me *not that I’m doing them with 100% perfection), but walking lunges do me in every.single.time. Apparently, I’m squatting deep and with gusto.

    1. Yes, walking lunges are strenuous! They’re really great though.
I’m wearing my Peanuts Halloween shirt to hand out candy tonight, and I’m enjoying it!

  5. A yoga streak is always nice. I have done a few in the past and honestly, it feels great. I am planning to see Denis a bit more this week myself as I have been slacking on the yoga. I have been doing the stretches though but my body likes both. Glad to see you are back running pain free. I always love a great cheese board!

    1. Okay, we can compare our yoga classes! At the end of the month I’m going to put together a post about my favorites.

  6. I can do one legged bridges and W3 (although I still wobble a lot sometimes in it) but pistol squats? Nope. No FOMO either, LOL! Glad you’re using the props as need be.

Sounds like you had a great week, Jenny. I didn’t do anything special for my Rosh Hashanah snack board, but we did enjoy it!

    1. Yeah, I think I have to put the pistol squats on hold for now, unfortunately. Denis is good about providing alternatives.

  7. I had no idea it was National Blog Posting month, lol. I’ll be sticking to my usual infrequent posting schedule. I’ve got a book review post coming out on Tuesday and Coffee talk Friday–hold up, 3 posts this week? :p

Glad that your foot is behaving. How many shockwave treatments will you be getting? I think I had 2? Or 3? for my PF.

    1. The idea is to get four and then see where I’m at. If it’s not better, I’ll get more.
I don’t think many people do NaBloPoMo anymore- it used to be a bigger thing, when blogging was a bigger thing.

  8. Love the Halloween “charcuterie board” – that’s so cute and festive!

I didn’t know it was National Blog Posting month. I used to blog 3-4 times a week but now I’m down to twice a week, and sometimes 3x a week. I don’t think I’ll post more than that as honestly I don’t have much to say that I haven’t already posted, lol.

  9. Sounds like a well-rounded week! We often dress up if there’s a party to attend, but this year we are laying low and handing out candy tonight. And then eating the leftovers 🙂

  10. Glad you’re getting good results from the shockwave treatment because ouch! What a beautiful sunrise. I am totally with you on Halloween treats and decor but it’s been a loooong time since I dressed up. I am counting the days until Thanksgiving break for the same reason as you are!

    1. Not only am I counting days but I’m making all sorts of plans. I already asked my son what food he wants and he’s sending me ideas, ha ha.

  11. We had more treat or treaters than usual. Hence zero candy. A good thing.

I used to faithful to yoga classes. But I lost interest. It may or may not come back.

National blogging month. Oh no. I’m running out of ideas. Soon it may be once a week.

    1. We got a lot of trick or treaters too! It was fun.
It’s weird, I did some yoga classes years ago, then stopped and had no interest for a long time. I can’t really explain why I got back into it now, but part of the credit goes to the Peloton app. I know I wouldn’t be getting myself to a live class every day (or, any day, to be honest.)

  12. Glad you are getting good use out of your Peloton program! I have a trial membership for Obe Fitness right now, but I really haven’t been motivated to do any classes! I guess it’s probably related to me working later than usual. I always have time for a morning run though thankfully! 🙂

    1. Yes, I have really been loving the Peloton app. I agree- it’s best to do things right away in the morning. It’s hard to fit it in later in the day.

  13. Oh those squats would have done for my knees, too! Well done on doing a nice range of classes. I’m hoping I’ll be able to kneel on my injured knee soon as that limits what you can do hugely.

  14. I did not dress up for Halloween and got a ticket! LOL The little first grade twins on our street dressed as policewomen and one of them wrote me a ticket for not dressing up. It was so cute and funny!

I’m glad your foot is coming along. Here’s to continued healing and feeling 100% soon!
