walkers walk… but runners fly

Holiday Wish List

One thing I love about this time of year is gift guides!  However, I’m calling this a “wish list” instead of “gift guide” because I have a feeling that what I want for Christmas may not be what everyone else wants.   But you never know- here’s what’s on my list this year:

This is the #1 item on my list.  I have the single bottle version, and I love it SO MUCH.  It doesn’t bounce or make my back hot (two things I was concerned about before I got it.) When I first started using it I had an issue with chafing, but now I have no problems even if I’m wearing it with just a sports bra.

The single bottle version comes with a 24 oz, bottle, which is perfect… for a ten mile run on a warm day.  But if I’m going farther, I need more water.  I really need this ASAP, but I’ll settle for Christmas Day.  Next up…

I don’t have a massage gun at home (I use one at work) and I have my eye on this one..  What can I say- I’m a cheapskate.  It’s only $28 but got some great reviews.

I got the idea for this from Caroline Girvan- she uses push up bars in one of her Iron Series workouts.  I have an issue with my right wrist, which is that I can’t put my hand down flat and put pressure on it.  I’m not sure if I hurt it doing pushups, yoga, at work, or a combination of the three, but it’s very sensitive.  I have to be careful because I need my wrists for work, so I haven’t done yoga in months, and if a workout calls for pushups, I attempt to do them up on my fists.  Did you know that’s VERY HARD?  I’m thinking these pushup bars would allow me to do more normal pushups and take the pressure off my wrists.  And here’s another piece of exercise equipment that looks pretty cool:

How many times have you thought, “If only there were a way to attach dumbbells to my feet!”  No?  Just me?  Honestly, now that I’m going to the gym I probably don’t need these, but Monkey Feet would allow you to do leg curls and leg extensions at home.

Born to Run 2 is a sequel to Born to Run, written by Christopher McDougall and his coach, Eric Orton.  Unlike Born to Run, which told the story of the Tarahumaras and ultrarunning, Born to Run 2 is a more practical training guide.  Included in the book are recipes, form drills, and a training plan.  I want it!!!

I’m linking up with Kim and Zenaida for their Tuesday topics.  Check them out for more holiday gift guide fun!

What’s on your holiday wishlist?

Do you own any of these items?  Any of them look interesting to you?

  1. Ha – my wishlist would look very different.
I don’t have too many things I’m looking to get this year; the main things are:
    – A second set of heated socks
    – A heated vest
    – Twizzlers (I get a package every year for Christmas and eat it very fast and LOVE EVERY BITE)!

I’ll also get a new ornament, and my husband always gets me a new set of earrings. Beyond that, I have nothing I feel like asking for, so we’ll see what ends up under the tree!?

    1. I just want to say that I really hope you get that heated vest. I cannot believe how much it has increased my quality of life in cold months since I’ve gotten mine. I love mine.

  2. You can never go wrong with a massage gun as a gift!
I have used the Orangemud single barrel hydraquiver for training and longer races (half marathon/marathon) and it’s awesome! It’s so freeing not to have to run with a bottle in your hand of around your waist.

  3. I hope you get those push-up bars, Jenny, they will be a game-changer for you.

And there are straps to attach dumbbells to your legs?! How cool!
Pamela Reif has a workout where she holds the dumbbell between her feet as she does leg raises. I’m always afraid I’m going to smash my face one day. So these Monkey Feet straps would be ideal.

  4. Anyone who gives me a massage gun wins Christmas!

My wishlist is pretty boring: some organizational things, personal care items I won’t spring for myself, some board games. I’m pretty low-key!

    1. This is the cheapest massage gun I’ve seen, but like I said it got good reviews. If I get it I’ll let you know how it is!

  5. Very fun!! I love seeing what people are wishing for. I can’t do push-ups with my hands flat either. I think for me it’s related to my RA. So I use hand weights so I can grip something instead. But those push up bars are superior!

We don’t receive many gifts as Phil and I don’t exchange gifts and we got my parents on board w/ just giving gifts to the grand kids years ago to make life easier for them. They have 10 grandkids to buy for so still get to do plenty of shopping! They get us cash and smartwool socks (the best socks for cold climates!) so we still get a little something! But my MIL still buys for us. We asked for another pair of flannel sheets. She asked for more ideas yesterday so I said a Galison brand 1,000 piece puzzle. That is my all time favorite brand of puzzles. And now that I have a puzzle mat that allows me to put puzzles away at the end of the night, I’m doing more puzzles again (I LOVE jigsaw puzzles). But we couldn’t come up with any other ideas. We are not very fun to shop for!! Ha! Last year she gave me a membership to the zoo for my birthday and that was the best gift!!! We have gotten a ton of use out of it and will use it often during the cold winter months since the indoor area is so great!

    1. I agree it sometimes is hard to think of gift ideas an an adult. I’m a big believer in having presents to open on Christmas though!

  6. I have a massage gun and love it… I also want to read Born to Run2. Gift cards ae always a great idea esp to a running store nd a race entry.

We don’t exchange gifts anymore. We just buy what we want during the year.

  7. There seems to be a theme with your wish list!
My husband has a theragun, and loves it. My sons use it too. They also have similar pushup thingies, I think only my husband uses them though.

    1. I think I might have gotten the idea for the hydration pack from you! And yes- sometimes I do pushups on dumbbells- it helps.

  8. I have an issue with my wrists, due to RA. I use these gel pads to put my hands on for pushups called Yoga Jellies. They are a little pricey but well worth it!

I still carry a handheld when I run. I must have sensory issues because I can’t wear my water–the sloshing noise really bothers me when I run, lol. You can roll your eyes at any time…

    1. It’s funny how everyone is different- I can’t stand holding a water bottle while I run. I swear you can’t really hear the sloshing from this hydration pack… but maybe your ears are more sensitive.
I’m going to look into those yoga jellies- I’ve never heard of them.

  9. My wish list this year is all of the jigsaw puzzles. That’s my #1 hobby in winter.

Born to Run was a good read (ok, ok, it was a good listen on audiobook). Even though I’m not running I’d be interested in checking it out.

  10. I’ve seen a few runners use the Orange Mud bottles but I always got the impression that the water would be sloshing inside the bottle. If you do get them, please write a review about them.

  11. Since we have VERY different interests, haha, none of these items are on MY wishlist this year, but I hope you get some of these for yourself! You definitely need to stay hydrated during those long runs in the Florida heat, so that vest looks perfect.
