Hello there! As usual, I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for this Weekly Rundown. My week started pretty typically, but towards the end I started shifting things around to get into the back-to-school groove. Here’s how it all played out..
Sunday
I had a long walk (one hour, fifteen minutes) while I talked on the phone with a friend. Later in the day I did hip PT exercises.
Monday
4 mile run! I remember very little from this run, but there’s a picture, so it happened.

Tuesday
I got out to my favorite trail for an 8 mile run. It was super hot and I was drenched in sweat, but so happy to be out there.

Wednesday
In the morning I did a lower body strength workout at home, including some hip PT. In the afternoon I walked for an hour while I talked to my son!!! They were just back from their honeymoon, and this was the first time I talked to him since the wedding.
At night, I did an upper body strength workout, again at home.
Thursday
4 mile run! My legs were sore from yesterday’s squats, but this run felt surprisingly good anyway.

At night- Adriene’s yoga for low back pain.
Friday
45 minute walk in the morning, and yoga for low back pain again at night.
Saturday
Here’s where I started to shift things around! I usually run on Saturdays before work, but I decided to hit the gym instead. As I suspected, Saturday morning at 7 am is a GREAT time for the gym- not crowded at all. I had a great full body workout, and was able to lift heavier than I can at home.

Sunday
Usually I sleep late and have a relaxing Sunday, perhaps with a walk in the afternoon. Today, I’m going to run! Here’s the thing- tomorrow is the first day of school. I’ve learned a few things over the years! The first day of school will include: 1) a painfully early wakeup, 2) drama, and 3) traffic. No need to add running into that mix- Monday will be a day off.
How was your week? Do you anticipate any back-to-school drama?

Yes, first week back to school and lots of complains from parents on changes. Good that you got to enjoy trail mid-week. I think scheduling something fun midweek really makes the week go smoothy.
Yes! I’m loving my mid-week trail runs. Luckily my work schedule allows me to keep on doing that, even with the back to school schedule.
I have to say I don’t miss the first day of school drama! Good luck to you! Florida goes back to school early! Planning ahead definitely helps. Good luck to you
Thank you Deborah! Yes, we go back pretty early. We get out early though, so it all evens out.
School started on Thursday here and it doesn’t really change my routine even though I work for a school district because I work year round and I don’t have kids, but I did notice more traffic which sucks. The university starts back in a couple weeks and there will be even more traffic then, and then when the snowbirds return in October/November it will be at its worst. It’s nice when the temps cool down so runs feel easier but I don’t love having more people on the trails in the winter and spring!
Smart of you to shift your run to today instead of Monday to avoid the extra stress!
Yes, traffic gets insane here as well. School+snowbirds… ugh. Luckily the snowbirds won’t be back for a while yet!
How great to catch up with Paul after the wedding. Where did they go for their honeymoon? He must be back at Northwestern for fall classes soon? Isabel done with school or is she still taking classes?
No back to school drama for us as the kids do before and after care and we are one of the first families to drop off! But the school doesn’t seem to have a lot of traffic in general. The boys will take the bus on Friday which they are both thrilled about. I would have preferred to keep them in before and after care but Phil felt strongly about it. He rarely WFH so we will need to have some convos about which Fridays he’ll be home with them (I have therapy or go to OTF on Friday mornings so don’t want to be the person getting them on the bus at 7:50).
They went to Oregon, and Paul said it was amazing. And- he and Isabel both will be at Northwestern for one more year (she’s doing a one year masters, and he’s in the second year of his). But Northwestern is on the quarter system, so classes don’t start till late September.
Hmm! So instead of before care, the boys will take the bus on Fridays? Yes, I certainly hope Phil is prepared to take on some of that responsibility!
Going to the gym so early on a Saturday must be the perfect time to do it. There’s no better time in the gym than when you almost have it to yourself.
I hope the back to school Monday morning goes well. It sounds stressful!
Thank you Susanne! And yes- early Saturday morning was great at the gym. I hate it when it’s crowded! Now if I could only get myself to go on Sunday mornings as well…
What? The gym is open on the weekends? haha I try to avoid it on the weekend, but I would not be surprised if our gym is less busy too. I agree, that first day (or maybe week?) of school is a good time to be available for whatever drama might come up. And your daughter is a senior now? Where has the time gone?? I hope it all goes well for you. Does she drive to school?
A honeymoon in Oregon sounds great. It’s so beautiful there!
Hahahahaha. No, my daughter doesn’t drive yet and let’s just say it’s a bone of contention around our house. And… I can see why you would avoid the gym on weekends! I’ve discovered though that early on weekend mornings, and weekend evenings (especially Saturday) are great, uncrowded times to go. Of course, I don’t really want to go at those times either! But… it’s worth it to avoid the crowds.
I hope we don’t have any back-to-school drama, but we still thankfully have 2.5 weeks left until we start. Nice job switching your run days to avoid the hassle!
I think the drama gets more intense the older the kids get! Or, maybe it’s more of a girl thing (but you do have a girl!) Anyway- we got through the first day. Good luck on yours coming up.
Taking the first day of school as a rest day is SMART. Plus you’ll still have happies from your run today to help propel you through whatever first day curveballs come up.
Yes, running later in the day on Sunday worked really well. We didn’t have TOO many curveballs this morning- just a couple. : )
Love that you used your walks to talk to people you love 😉 that’s great multi-tasking.
How’s your hip doing>
My hip is okay! It feels a little funny, a little tight, but really not too bad. And, I LOVE walking and talking on the phone! It’s my new favorite thing.
School is still almost a month away for us, and I’m jealous that you’re into the back to school routine! I love that you have the day off and RESTING sounds like a very good plan.
Hooray for a talk with Paul. I’m so glad they had a wonderful honeymoon. Ah, young love! It gives me warm fuzzies <3
Yes- I’m excited to be back in the fall routine already. And yes- Paul and Isabel are so, so sweet. They had a wonderful honeymoon which makes me very happy.
I hope the back-to-school drama was manageable (or MIA?). Those first few days were always tough, even towards the end of that era (despite several years of “practice”).
No back to school drama for me because I’m old and my kids are out of school, out of college, and even post-grad studies. LOL Kidding aside, here’s hoping your daughter has a fantastic senior year!
Yay for multi-tasking on the phone while walking. Kim and I can attest that it’s a great way to make a workout fly by!
Oh, no! Not drama!
I’ve taken myself off all the school pages and email lists, so I’ve heard rumors about short tempers and bad traffic. However, I didn’t experience any of that for myself this year, and I’m ok with that!
I hope your daughter has a great year!
And how exciting to talk to your son!
Carianne just introduced me to your blog. I agree about start of school, it’s chaos. Glad you’re running in this Florida heat!! Phew!
