walkers walk… but runners fly

Friday! Phew.

This has been a weird week! Nothing is drastically wrong, but my mind can’t seem to settle down. I started a blog post titled “Going Around in Circles” but just writing the post was annoying me so much, I gave up. I think simplicity is best! Here are five things for this Friday…

1. Our weather. Boy- do not plan a trip to Florida in September! It’s either hot, humid, and steamy, or dumping rain. Anyone who says we don’t have seasons down here is clearly wrong- we have Summer, Super-Summer, and Stormy September. As long as you don’t have to go anywhere, it’s kind of cozy to be curled up on the couch under a pumpkin throw blanket, while listening to rain and thunder outside. It’s our version of cozy fall weather!

2. This book. I’m liking it but can’t seem to get to the end! It’s really good, but complicated… I want to find out what happens and I also want to be able to move on to something else already.

3. Football! NFL football has officially begun- don’t ask me why they started on a Wednesday night, but I was happy about it. We also had a high school game tonight.

The band played their halftime show on the track because the field was so wet (see point #1).

4. This weekend! My daughter is re-taking the SATs tomorrow. Send thoughts and prayers our way (wait- can thoughts and prayers take the place of serious prep? If so, please send them!) Other than that, my weekend will consist of work (Saturday) and a whole lot of relaxing (Saturday night and Sunday).

5. The hand-me-down pumpkin house. When Muffin was a kitten, we got a little pumpkin-shaped cat house for her. She eventually outgrew it, but last fall we got it out for Foxy. Guess who fits in it this year???

To be fair, Foxy still fits as well.

Muffin definitely does not fit anymore!

What are your plans for the weekend?

Day of Reading

As I’ve mentioned, I made my colonoscopy prep day into a “mini-reading retreat.” It worked out GREAT. I read everything

  1. I know that feeling of sitting down to write a post and getting stuck so well…when in doubt throw it out and write something that you want to write! Blogger DNF FTW! I’m sending good SAT vibes your way.

The kitty pumpkin house tho! It looks like the young ‘uns still have a ways to go before they outgrow it.

My weekend involves two state capitals and an FLW site! And then I’ll be going home and staying put for a few weeks! I love the travel but I’m ready to be home.

    1. To be fair, I’m sure Muffin could technically still fit in the house- she’s not THAT fat. But it might be a little tight, and she doesn’t seem interested anymore.
Your weekend sounds adventurous! Have fun.

  2. Aw, your kitties look great in the pumpkin house!

I am looking forward to my long overdue mani/pedi on Saturday, and then my long overdue hair cut on Friday. I’m a mess in the meantime!

  3. Awww the pumpkin house is so cute!

I feel you on the weather. We haven’t really gotten much rain in the past few weeks but we can still get some this time of year and so it’s been humid (for us — like 60% humidity in the mornings which is a lot for the desert) but it’s only in the 70s now most mornings so that makes it feel kinda like fall, at least until it warms up into the 90s later in the day. But I think we may be done with the 100s for the year so that’s good!

    1. I was going to say… 90s is an improvement for you. Also, that is high humidity for the dessert. 70s is nice though! Our low lately has been 80, sigh.

  4. Haha what a cute little pumpkin house! I am currently at my parents’ house and whoa, the weather is wild here right now. It’s not like I forgot what Alberta weather is like, but I’m not used to it anymore. We got here and it was 16 degrees (C, obv) and just lovely. My husband commented there were some dark clouds at the other side of the lake. Five minutes later – HUGE STORM. Rain, hail, wind that was bending the trees sideways, temperature drop. I’m glad I brought my cold-weather gear for our walks!
Since we’ve been on a road trip I’m reading super fluffy romances right now, specifically because they are easy reads on the go. Also I am pretty sure I know the ending (they are going to end up together, happily ever after).
    Hope the SATs go well!

    1. Thank you Nicole! And yes, that’s one of the requirements of the romance genre- happily ever after, right? Just like in a murder mystery- they have to catch the bad guy.

  5. A FB friend of mine posted a video of a storm at her home in Florida, but I don’t know whether she is close to you or not. It was crazy, lots of thunder and lightning. It was stupid hot here for a couple of days, but it was dry at least. Today it is about 20 degrees cooler and much nicer.

I love the pumpkin house, they’re so cute!

I hope the SAT goes well for your daughter. No real weekend plans here. I woke up at 3ish this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep, so thinking a nap may be in order later today.

    1. That storm probably could have been anywhere in Florida, but we have had some intense ones lately!
Yikes- 3 am. I would definitely have a nap. As a matter of fact I got a “normal” night’s sleep and I’m still planning a nap today.

  6. Awww, the pumpkin kitty photos are amazing!! I’m sorry you are feeling a bit out of sorts this week. I am sure your crummy weather isn’t helping. You are kind of like a midwesterner in the month of Feb or Mar – you are just so done w/ your crappy season and are ready for better weather!

Paul has been so excited about the start of the football season. I was pretty chuffed to tell him I’d been to the arena where last night’s game was played – the MCG in Melbourne. When I studied abroad, I went to an AFL game there with a friend. We had no idea how AFL worked but it was still a fun experience.

Our weekend is busy – but they all are once school starts, it seems. Paul has a soccer game and bday parties on Sat/Sun. It’s also our block party on Sat night and Will has a kinder play date on Sunday. Plus we’ll try to watch the Vikings/Packers game (go Vikings!!!!!!). We have a new QB so it’s hard to say how our season will go! Good luck to Angie! I did not have to take the SAT – the ACT was the main exam that colleges focused on in the midwest!

    1. Yes, you’re right about the weather. It’s just a time of year where it’s very difficult to be outside, and that gets depressing.
How fun that you have a kid who’s into football!!! Neither of my kids is interested at all. My husband and I will be watching a game, while Angie walks through rolling her eyes dramatically in disgust. Anyway- I’ll root for the Viking’s for Paul’s sake.

  7. Oh my goodness, kitty pumpkin house!!!!! So cute! I keep seeing a reel on Instagram of cats wearing a centipede costume and it is hilarious and adorable (and apparently terrifying to those who aren’t prepared to see a cat in a centipede costume) and I kind of want one for my cat.

Yay for football! Well, except that my team is The Worst, so I’m not super excited about watching them lose. Maybe I need a new team to follow.

I completely empathize with the Going Around in Circles feeling and with the feeling that a post just isn’t working. Sometimes I feel annoyed at myself for being so whiny but sometimes it helps to get the whine OUT.

    1. Your posts are always interesting, even if there’s a little whining involved : )
Good luck getting Lenny into a costume! I can’t ever imagine my cats standing for it. They also make the cutest little guinea pig costumes- but I just can’t bring myself to impose that on our guineas!

  8. I just wrote a similar post! weird week for me too. The pumpkin house looks so comfy. cats love to hide. sometimes takes us forever to find Bubble.

    1. Yes, cats definitely love to hide! It’s funny when you put out something like the pumpkin house- they immediately want to curl up inside.
I feel like a lot of people are having weird weeks! What is going on?

  9. Good Luck on the SAT. My kids are also taking it tomorrow. Twin B is taking it for 2nd time. Twin A for the 3rd, because during the 2nd time, he really had to use the restroom. He could have gone, but didn’t, so he couldn’t concentrate and got a worse score. Ugh! The loss of 5 min max would have been worth being comfortable for the rest of the test.
Marching Band has only had 1 football game so far. It was so hot (we’re in DC area) that we bought khaki shorts for all of the students to wear with their band shirts. The uniforms are way too thick & we don’t need kids passing out…again.
The pumpkin house is cute. Too bad our cat is afraid of everything.

    1. Okay- I’ll make sure to tell Angie to use the bathroom if she needs to! This is her second time taking it, and I’m hoping we won’t have to go for a third.
It is VERY hot here still! Our band does not wear shorts though- they have very lightweight pants in kind of a tech fabric. Same with the shirts. Then they also have lightweight jackets, but they don’t wear those till October.
Aw… you have a scaredy cat! That’s cute… although I guess no pumpkin house for you.

  10. Oh, pumpkin house! And your cats go so well with it. We have an igloo house for the cats- they never go inside but love sleeping on top.
Band at football game and then competition tomorrow. But I’m not volunteering, so I’ll stay home and vacuum and mop floors. Thank goodness I have no SAT or ACT kids fall.
I hope you have a fun weekend!

    1. Ha… we also have a little Christmas house for the cats which will come out in November! An igloo house would be funny, here in Florida. I think I want one.
Our band does not do marching competitions. They do a very simple pregame routine and halftime show, and play very enthusiastically in the stands during the game. But the band director doesn’t want to focus too seriously on marching, which I think works out well for us.

  11. PUMPKIN CAT HOUSE! I cannot love it more.

It would seem you are sending us your heat and humidity. No, and Thank You. I am so ready for autumn weather.

The SAT is no joke. I can well remember how it struck fear in the hearts of my students. I never took it; I went to the local community college and got my associate’s degree and then transferred to a 4-year. I took the ACT since it was the only one required for a state college/uni. Best wishes to your daughter for her success.

  12. A Pumpkin House for the kittens! I could have bet that you have something like this at your house 🙂
It’s so interesting how different weather is in September at different places…. we still have summery temps, but no rain in sight here. Maybe in October.

Sending good vibes and all the positive mojo to your daughter for the SATs.

  13. Thoughts and prayers don’t generally work, but maybe it’ll be an easy test. It’s crazy because almost no one in Wisconsin takes the SAT and I’ve been out of the test prep game for so long that I am not sure I could properly tutor it anymore. That seems insane. I did work with my nephew earlier this year on the ACT, so I feel like I have that under control still. Let’s hope for an easy test! (If she does need help, let me know. I could prep something up and do two or three Zoom sessions. I would only charge for the price of any materials I need to purchase, but I can get most of what I need online. I don’t claim expertise in much, but I am an expert on taking standardized tests.)

It’s definitely getting cooler here, especially at night. We’re getting down into the 50s at night and leaving the windows open. The sleeping has been blissful.

  14. It has been SO RAINY here, gah. I mean, we need it and I love the summer storms but I just have to give up on the idea of going outside after, like, 4pm every day.

The pumpkin house is so cute! I bought a new Halloween-themed cat scratcher/lounger for the girls but I think I need to look into some holiday-themed houses like this that I can repurpose every year! Hmmmmm.
