walkers walk… but runners fly

Friday! Phew.

Well, my reset worked GREAT. Wednesday night I got in bed at 8:00 and was asleep by 9:00. When my alarm went off at 5:00 am I was already awake ruminating- but I got a pretty good night’s sleep.

Guess who else felt better- Muffin! We were so worried, we were all set to take her back to the vet. She must have heard about that plan and decided to start eating again! She isn’t eating a lot, but that’s probably because her stomach has shrunk to 1/10th it’s normal size. But she IS eating. We relocated her to our bedroom, where she jumped up on the windowsill and started washing herself like nothing had ever happened.

Muffin! You scared us HALF TO DEATH!

My husband thinks all her troubles are due to Foxy, but I’m not convinced. We’re keeping them separated for now…

I made a handy sign for the door.

… and when Muffin is completely back to normal we’ll reintroduce them, very gradually this time. If Muffin stops eating again at that point, we’ll probably have to give him up- but I’m hoping it won’t come to that.

I’m so comfy here- don’t make me go!

More good news (although this pales in comparison with Muffin’s recovery) is that I found my daughter’s missing water bottle. I stopped at the gym, and the conversation went something like this: “Er. My daughter might have left her water bottle here. Once again, this is MY DAUGHTER’S water bottle. Not mine…” and then I described it.

They knew immediately which water bottle I was talking about.

We’re on a roll of good luck around here. It’s a great way to go into the weekend, because it’s time for all state auditions. Angie has made it every year since 8th grade and she’s been practicing hard- but junior year is very tough. Fingers crossed!

Are you feeling good about the upcoming weekend? Any big plans?

Why Am I Doing This?

Hey there! I haven’t had a Deep Thoughts post in a while, and I know how much everyone has been

  1. I did not realize how complicated cats can be about being around other cats! But between your complications and also what Coco’s been through with Cookie and Bubble, I have learned a lot! I am so glad Muffin is eating again though. Maybe it IS just stress?

Also glad that your re-set helped! I do feel like so often when I have one of those times when just everything goes haywire, if you check back a few days later, there’s usually been at least some relief! Very smart to claim a re-set early bed time, too.

    1. We still can’t figure out if it was stress or something physical. Cats are… mysterious.
Under the circumstance, I felt like my bedtime was the only thing I had control over- so I did it! It really helped.

  2. LOLOLOLOL OMG THE WATER BOTTLE.
I was like, Jenny, what’s the big deal about…then I came to the photo. Bwhahaahah.
Cats! They are so complicated! Sheesh, you try to get a friend for them and look what happens. I’m glad she’s eating again!

    1. I KNOW. The whole point was, we thought Muffin was lonely. Whatever. We’ll try again… I hope it goes well this time.

  3. I hope Muffin continues to improve AND you can keep Foxy! I know dogs and cats are different, but back in 2020 my sister moved to AZ with her dog and at the time, we all lived in one house — me, my dog, my parents and my sister and her dog. The two dogs did not get along well at first, we had to keep them mostly separated to avoid fighting but we slowly introduced them and now they are BFFs even though they don’t live together anymore, but my sister’s dog still visits my parents’ house quite frequently! So hopefully this can happen with your cats, or at least they can tolerate being together.

    1. Yes- I would love it they were friends, but I’ll settle for tolerance. Dogs are so much simpler! But- I guess you never really know if any animal is going to get along with another one.

  4. Lol – that water bottle sticker!! But hey, I’m glad it was found!! And I am glad that Muffin is feeling better. I hope you don’t have to give up Foxy! Fingers crossed.

Our weekend isn’t too busy overall. We have soccer tonight, a truck event tomorrow afternoon, and then a playdate on Sunday afternoon. I’m most looking forward to doing another OTF class on Sunday morning. I am still sore from the class on Wednesday, though! My quads are so sore, probably because we had to do these deep squats where you butt needs to touch the bench. I don’t think I normally get that low in my squats and wow am I feeling it, but it’s kind of nice to be sore in a way? I’d love to get to the point where I could do these classes twice/week. But that gets tricky unless I do a 5am class during the week and I just don’t know if I can do that… it would require getting up at 4:20-4:30 which sounds horrible.

    1. I’ve never done OTF but heard lots of great things about it. But yes- it would be really hard for me to get up at 4:20 to get to a class! I agree- when I’m super sore I know that I worked hard! I’m also working hard at getting lower in my squats, and… ouch.

  5. Fingers crossed that Muffin is not rebelling against Foxy.
Long run planned and catching up on housework…

  6. kitty troubles are the WORST. I have two that don’t get long and it does make one of them very agitated and weird but not to the point of not eating… glad Muffin is on the mend!!!

I’m glad it’s the weekend because I had a better week than last week but it’s still kind of “meh”. We are going to Den Bosch early tomorrow morning for a parkrun and then after that I don’t know… no plans are a good idea for me at the moment!!

    1. Yeah, cats are weird! I would be happy if the cats could at least tolerate each other, if they can’t actually be friends.
Yes, I usually like a weekend with no plans!

  7. Eeks. This sounds so stressful, Jenny. Hopefully a bit of a reset for Muffin will help ease her anxiety (or whatever else might be causing her this upset).

Birchie is coming back to my house today, so I have one more full day to show her the sights of Nova Scotia. And then it’s back to dreary everyday life (just kidding, I LOVE fall)…but not for long because SHU will be arriving in Nova Scotia in exactly 3 weeks (and Kae arrives a few days earlier).

    1. Well, you’ve really done a good job of selling people on Nova Scotia- you have people flocking to your door! Enjoy the rest of your time with Birchie. And, luckily you’re in the most beautiful season, so life will not be dreary!

  8. I am so glad you got a good night’s sleep! That can be a game changer! I love waking up naturally but still being on time.

I will do some hiking this weekend but otherwise not much else. I’m trying to catch up on some reading and travel planning, as next month I will be out of service for awhile.

  9. we are definitely not mixing the two yet, not until the small one can defend herself. if they can’t co-live, we will just keep them separately.
    glad muffin is eating!

  10. Yay for Muffin! And yay for finding the water bottle! I can’t imagine how they found it so quickly!

    Good luck to Angie!

It’s kind of a busy weekend – A has band camp and I’m off to another house sit!

  11. I’ll be catching up in reverse order, so I have to go and find out what was going on with Muffin, but I am glad she’s on the mend!
And I am glad you got some good shut eye! So important for overall well-being! 😉

  12. So glad muffin is eating again! We also have a highly strung cat called Bells who stops eating when stressed., We once fostered two rescue kittens until they found homes, and Bells could NOT cope. I fell in love with one of the kittens and would have adopted her in a heartbeat, but we couldn’t do that to Bells. She’d taken to hiding on top of a cupboard and only eating up there. Many tears were shed saying goodbye to Socks, the rescue kitten. Hopefully Muffin will come around, I’ve got everything crossed you can keep Foxy.
Also, hooray you found the water bottle. Losing water bottles is like Eleanors hobby! Drives me crazy.

  13. I am SO GLAD that Muffin is feeling better! I hope it’s just a harder-than-expected process of Muffin getting used to Foxy. It would be so sad if you had to rehome him, but I totally understand, too. That’s part of the reason I don’t think I’ll get a third cat. I think Lila would revolt! We have a very good balance right now and I don’t want to upset it, lol. Eloise would be okay, but Lila is SO sensitive to change.

    I love the sign! Hehe.
