I know for many people it’s still the weekend, and if that’s you, I hope you’re enjoying it. I work today, so it was a regular weekend for me (but don’t worry- it will be a chill day, with a morning run, afternoon nap, and dinner cooked by SOMEONE ELSE). Here’s how the weekend played out for me.
Saturday was almost a carbon copy of last week- work in the morning, afternoon nap, late afternoon trip to the gym, and then Chipotle!

Last week Birchie asked what’s in my Chipotle bowl. Well, I’ll tell you! Brown rice, sofritas (tofu protein option- it’s really flavorful, spicy and delicious), fajita vegetables, pico de gallo, medium salsa, guac and lettuce. It’s so good!!!
Side tangent- by the time I left the gym and headed to Chipotle, it was almost 7 pm. I felt so energized and excited that I still had the whole evening ahead of me. I reflected that I really am a night owl. When you have kids, you have to force yourself to be a morning person, and I’m realizing what a struggle it’s been over the years. Not that my early rising days are over, but I’m slowly but surely shifting things later in the day, and I like it.
ANYWAY! I ate my Chipotle while watching a baseball game, then wrote a blog post and read my book. I finally got in bed a little after midnight.
Sunday I slept in! My alarm was set for 9, but I woke up around 8:30. I had a leisurely breakfast while reading blog posts, and then headed out for ERRANDS! I wanted to take advantage of some Memorial Day sales. First up, Athleta. They make my favorite running shorts, and I wanted to get a pair while they’re 40% off.

Then, DSW. They’re also having a sale. How is it even possible that they have hundreds of shoes, but none of them are what I want??? This time I actually tried on a pair, and confirmed my suspicion that I’ll never be able to squash my rectangular feet into pointy dress shoes. I left in a huff.

After stopping at the library and grocery store, I came home and ORDERED SHOES FROM THEIR WEBSITE. This is what I got:

But even on the website, they didn’t have my size, so I went up a half size. So I have no idea if they’ll fit. I may be returning them to the store. However, I also ordered the “ridiculously comfortable” flip flops! I may not have shoes for the ceremony yet, but I know what I’ll be wearing for the reception.

Later in the afternoon (after a short nap and some house cleaning) I went to the gym WITH MY DAUGHTER! We used to go together all the time- now she usually goes with her boyfriend, but he was working. We obviously didn’t work out together (that would be crazy) but it was still fun going together. It felt like the old days.
The rest of the evening was the usual- dinner, cleanup, etc. The “Sunday Scaries” weren’t too intense- since there’s no school tomorrow everything feels more relaxed.
What were the highlights from your weekend so far?
Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I love your golden Sandel. I also ordered a few to try this weekend and they are golden too.
Love love love chipotle. that’s one fast food place that I genuinely love, same for my kids.
Chipotle is my favorite fast food place! I get Chipotle once a week and never get tired of it. About the shoes- I really hope they fit so I can stop thinking about it! I’ll find out soon…
I like those shoes- pretty and look very comfortable! And the flip-flops still a favorite.
Weekend was busy. Sat I drove daughter and her roommate back to college for their summer research. However, my daughter forgot her keys at home. Luckily, we noticed this only an hour into the trip and turned around. We had her brothers grab the keys and meet us halfway home. Added an hour to trip. Got home in the evening. Sunday was graduation for my senior. Inside the main gym ( with has AC!), crowded but we found good seats, and the speakers were blessedly short. And he’s done and has a diploma and they can’t take it back. He’s started a summer job with the city doing concessions at the pool. I think it will work out well. He needs something that will build confidence instead of batter it. I slept better last night than I have in ages.
Enjoy your Monday!
That does sound busy!!! You had some big events- I assume this was high school graduation? And yikes on the key situation- good thing you realized it when you did!!!
I’m hoping you have some time to relax today… but I have a suspicion that today will be a busy day for you as well.
Love the shoes! I also adore Athleta sales– I need t-shirts, so I should probably check it out. I usually do a Chipotle salad with sofritas and all the salsas.
Yes, check it out! The sale should be going on through today. 40% off is a lot!
Have you ever tried on dressy shoes made by Franco Sarto? I swear they are the most comfy ones around. I once got a pair of 3.5″ heels because I loved the soft, grey suede, and even with those towering heels, they were easy to wear. I taught in them (and I was not a Sitting Down Type of educator).
HMMMM. I’ll check it out (assuming that these won’t fit, which is probably a 50/50 chance). I’m a little skeptical about the 3.5 inch heel though!!!
Nom! Chipotle’s tofu sofritas are excellent. All of their meals are better with fajita veggies.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that the shoes will work out, and I’ll drop the PSA that if it’s OK to wear flip flops to the reception then it’s also probably OK to wear them to the ceremony.
Shudder at the early wake up era. To be fair, now that I live an alarm free life I usually wake up between 6 and 6:30, and even at my most intense I never got up before 5:15 but gah those were hard years. I’m wired to be a “day” person – neither getting up super early or staying up super late.
I like your attitude, but I really don’t think I can et away with flip flops for the ceremony. Well- I guess I COULD wear whatever I want, no one is stopping me. But I’m not sure if I’m ready yet to be that eccentric- I’ll save it for my 70s and 80s.
That is exactly the kind of sandal I had in mind for you, Jenny! Low, chunky heel, and very pretty. I think they will look great with the dress! Perfection! And always good to go a half size up because you will be on your feet a lot and they can swell a bit. Eeeee. They look great!
It’s not a long weekend here – that was last weekend for us. We had guests for the long weekend, but this weekend was all about getting ready to leave on our big trip (we leave tomorrow!).
Thank you Nicole! Now let’s just pray that they fit. I would love to just be done with this (then I can start worrying about jewelry and hair- two things that are relatively easy compared to shoes and dress).
Have fun on your trip!!! We will miss you, but I’m looking forward to a full report when you get back.
Your weekend sounded wonderful! I know that sense of energy you had at 7pm but that is NEVER ME at 7pm. I am definitely more of a lark than a night owl, but I don’t want to get up too early. My internal clock is typically set to around 6:15 am.
Our weekend has been pretty good overall. The boys both had playdates on Saturday which made the day more enjoyable. Yesterday got a little bit long with lots of wrestling and messing with each other. But we spent a lot of time outdoors which always helps. Today I’m going to an OTF class, Phil is taking Paul to the driving range, and I’ll take the boys to a local nature park that has a waterfall and walking trail. Then I fly out tomorrow morning for a work trip to Maine! The boys don’t have school tomorrow because there is a professional development day (terrible timing) and then they don’t have school on Wednesday either due to a religious holiday but at least they have care through the after school program that day. It’s bad timing for me to fly out on a day when they are off school and we don’t have childcare but Phil’s mom is coming over to help out.
Wednesday is a religious holiday? I’m trying to figure out which one… I looked it up- Eid al-Adha??? Your school is definitely inclusive! Anyway, yes that is bad timing. Thank goodness for Phil’s mom. Glad you had nice weather for the weekend- that definitely helps! Safe travels.
Our school district recognizes most Christian, Jewish, and Islamic holidays. But we have a really diverse population in our district. I don’t think this Islamic holiday typically falls during the school year, though, so it was a head scratcher for me at first to figure out why the kids didn’t have school!
Ooh, are we doing Chipotle orders? Mine is: bowl with white rice, 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak, fajita peppers, pico de gallo, the salsa verde, extra cheese!, and a little bit of lettuce.
The shoes look great! And I LOVE those casual sandals! I think those will come in handy other occasions for sure!
Gym with your daughter sounds fun! I also went to the gym yesterday evening and it was delightfully empty. I joked to the guy at the desk, “Are we the only ones here?” and he was like, “There’s not too many!” And I responded, “I am so fun, this is how I spend a holiday weekend!” lol! (In fairness it was NOT empty- there were actually a decent number of other people not out grilling or on boats and also at the gym.)
What was your husband up to this weekend??
Yes, I know my husband seems mysteriously absent sometimes! He works a lot on weekends. He was around on Saturday, but Sunday he had a gig and was gone from about 3-9.
I’m trying to figure out the least crowded times at the gym, and weekend late afternoon/evenings are the best so far. Like your situation- it was EMPTY, but less crowded enough so I could use all the equipment I needed.
You don’t like guac????? The chipotle guac is so good!!!!!
I don’t eat out a lot but I do love Chipotle! My order is usually black beans, white rice, spicy salsa, lettuce and guac. I also like the sofritas but then if I get them, the guac is extra vs the veggie bowl where it’s already included. I did go out to eat last night though with my parents, which is nice because I didn’t have to pay haha! We went to a local Mexican place and I got a veggie burrito bowl which is basically the same as my Chipotle order but with extra veggies, and a couple of spicy margaritas that were really good.
I hope the sandals work out for you! They look really cute!
Oh really? Guac is included in the veggie bowl? That’s good to know! I don’t get the sofritas AND beans because I learned the hard way it’s a huge gut bomb. One of these days I’ll get the beans instead of tofu- but then I like the pinto beans.
I always forget that Chipotle is an option, but then when I go I do enjoy it. We don’t eat much fast food, but Chipotle is more of a fast casual than FF I think. I’m glad you enjoyed your Coke Zero.
I LOVE the shoes you ordered, I hope they fit you perfectly and are comfortable. I think half a size larger is a good way to go, as long as they don’t rub you weird and give you blisters (which even shoes that fit me perfectly sometimes do). I did laugh that you left DSW in a huff.
I’m thinking the shoes just need to be comfortable enough to get through the ceremony and photos- I’m not asking to be able to wear them ALL day.
I’m sure Chipotle isn’t the healthiest option in the world, but I do agree it’s a small notch up from most fast food. At least that’s what I tell myself!
Those shoes are great! I think you picked out something perfect for you. I hope they fit well and you love them! Isn’t it so frustrating, though, to go to a shoe store and NOTHING WORKS? Gah.
I am not a morning person OR a night owl. I do my best work mid-morning – mid-afternoon, lol. I don’t want to get up early but I also don’t want to stay up late. Riddle me that!
Shoe shopping is such a hassle! I think I haven’t been at a DSW in forever for that exact reason… but I really like the shoes that you ordered online. I do hope they fit! They’ll look great for the wedding!
I agree that having small children MAKES you into a morning person. Problem is, now that my kids are starting to be a little more self-sufficient in the morning, I am now officially a morning person, and I don’t know that I could ever go back. But I hear that the teenage kids will make me into a night owl because that’s when they want to do things!
