Well- my Wednesday turned out to be everything I hoped it would be! Starting with a relaxing time at the car dealership…

Remember how I was hoping for a time-consuming but inexpensive repair, so I would be forced to sit there longer? Guess what! There was a factory recall on the battery, so they had to fix that and it was FREE. I got over two hours of “me” time.
The car place in a HIGHLY ADVANTAGEOUS location- very close to Fleet Feet, Trader Joe’s and Barnes and Noble. Seriously- all those place are right nearby. I went to Fleet Feet and got these:

New running fuel! Ucan is a low-glycemic, sugar-free, slow releasing energy. I’ve never used it, but I’ll give it a try this weekend. I’m definitely looking for something different than the usual sugary gels.
Next… Barnes and Noble! I had a gift card (from a client) and I got this:

I CANNOT WAIT to read it. Well, actually I am going to wait- I’ll probably start it next month or maybe in November. But it’s waiting for me… I’ve absolutely loved every book in this series so far.
THEN, Trader Joe’s!

Unlike previous years, I didn’t get a lot of seasonal items. I did get a can of pumpkin, and some apple cider hand soap. Other than that I loaded up on my usual favorites- soy milk, nuts, almond butter, etc.
After all that excitement, I needed a nap. Engie was disappointed that there were no cat photos in my last post, but I’ll tell you why. Foxy is so hard to get a photo of! He’s very active, so all my photos turn out to be orange blurs. Here he is relaxing with me though:

And here’s Muffin (different day, I was wearing my black cat pajamas!)

Charlotte is too cranky to pose, but my next goal is to get a shot of all three cats together.
How was your Wednesday?
What would you buy with a gift card from Barnes and Noble?

I didn’t even realize there is a new Galbraith out!! Egads! I placed a hold on it, but I sort of hope I don’t get it for a few weeks because my library stack is currently out of control.
I am so jealous of your dealership being in a good location. Mine is literally a half mile walk down a busy interstate to the nearest Target. Oh, well. I get good blogging done when I’m getting my oil changed!
TO be clear (I don’t think I was) I sat at the car dealership while my car was being worked on, and blogged/read. Then I did the other things- TJs and Fleet Feet are annoyingly far away from me, so I definitely take advantage of the opportunity when I’m in the area!
What a jackpot of a Wednesday! Free battery repair, new running fuel, books, AND Trader Joe’s?
That’s basically the runner/blogger version of hitting the lottery.
I’m curious how the UCAN works for you. Sugar-free fuel sounds promising. That looks like quite a run long you’re planning!
Ha ha, I know. I look forward to getting my car service more than anyone I know. And- my run will only be ten miles. I’m just going to try out ONE of the Ucans, not all of them. But I’ll report back- I’m curious to see how they work.
I don’t go to car dealerships for maintenance anymore, but when the kids were little, it was great- they had popcorn, donuts, and cable TV. My kids loved going to oil changes. However, a bookstore and Trader Joe’s sound like paradise!
I spent my Wednessay teaching, baking, and reading. I read Nesting and Death of the Author. I ached a little for the protagonist of the first, as well as wanting to shake her to face what was going on. The second- not my usual cup of tea but interesting, not fabulous.
I would reserve the next Louise Penny book at a B&N- it’s coming out in October! I read her books then pass them on to a friend. She’s the only author I’ll regularly buy in hardback.
I’m slowly making my way through Louise Penny- but I heard her last one Grey Wolf, wasn’t as good as the others. Would be curious to know what you think!
Yes, I think Grey Wolf was okay but it’s getting tedious that there’s always another evil Mastermind to worry about. I prefer some of the other ones that had a smaller focus.
Catrina is right – you won the lottery! I’m not sure what I would buy at B&N, so my answer might sound like a cop out, but it’s true: I would give the gift card to the boys and they would spend it in a hot second. If someone gave me a gift card to TJs, it would be a completely different story.
I know what you mean about not being able to take pictures because the young ‘un won’t sit still. When Doggo was younger, she used to get “puppy witching hour” at night – whoever came up with that name wished that it only lasted an hour. Zero sitting still by either the dog or the human. And then she would finally tire herself out and there would be a very sweet cuddling session.
Yes, it takes a while for Foxy to tire himself out! It’s so cute when he crashes though. And, I should have asked the question, what would you buy with a gift card from Trader Joe’s? i always love to see what people get there.
What a great day you had! I hope it was nice and restorative. I don’t think we have Barnes and Noble here, so no answer to your question. Although there are a lot of good books coming out – I have them on my Christmas wish list (new Catherine Newman, Margaret Atwood memoir, etc)
My Wednesday was great, groceries in the morning and then I had a visit from a friend in the afternoon and we chatted for three hours!
Rex poses for the camera but Barkley would not. We had him fourteen years and I only have a handful of good photos.
Ha! Yes, Rex is very good in photos! And… you just reminded me, I have to start thinking about my Christmas book wish list!
Oooooh, I gotta go to Trader Joe’s this weekend to stock up on all their seasonal stuff! I’m also curious about those Ucan gels — they’re sugar free but they must have some source of carbs for energy?
My oil change is today but I have to stay at the dealership and get work done (boo!) since my appointment is in the middle of the day. But then at least I don’t have to make up for the time I wasn’t in the office and I can enjoy a change of scenery for a bit.
Jenny, I am so happy for you. Lots of time AND A free repair. What could be better?
And it’s so fun to have a good book (I assume you’ll love this one, too) in the pipeline. And, because you own it, you don’t have to worry about rushing to finish it to get on to a library stack.
I think it’s a good thing I don’t have a TJs because all the specialty items would just spin my head (and empty my wallet).
Foxy looks so sweet cuddled up like that <3
First of all, what’s the book on your laptop screen? It sort of reminds me (somewhat) of the one I just finished (The Courage to Be Disliked). Second, we do Pumpkinpalooza (with pumpkin lunch after!) at TJs every year, but I’ve found better luck around 10/1 vs early Sept. But maybe we are close enough to October that they have most of the stuff! Maybe we will attempt this weekend . . .
I like the spicy pumpkin samosas a lot!
Wow, your car dealership is in a great location! Ours is on a frontage road off the interstate. But I do not go there because my lovely husband handles all car maintenance (and he gases the cars up – I just put gas in the Rav-4 for the first time since we bought it nearly 2 years ago when I was up at my parents lake home to pick up the boys. I was like, wait, how does one gas up a car again? Hee hee).
I love seeing all the seasonal treats at TJs – and listening to the GND fall podcast episode where they try different items and smell candles! That should be coming out pretty soon!
I flew back from California on Wednesday. I was on an 8 am flight so was home by 2CST. I had a long couple of days of work so was very happy to get back to Phil and the boys. I only fit in a short 3 minute facetime call since I worked such long hours – plus the time zone difference made it extra challenging.
There is an author that would write her novels at the tire place because they had nice tables and chairs and free coffee. She originally discovered this writing mecca while getting her tires done and then just kept going back, and the place let her stay. How fun is that?
Your pants and Muffin’s coat kinda match. I had to stop and think about what day this was. Was Wednesday just yesterday? I didn’t babysit Monday because of the adoption, so I’m thrown off. Big time. So confusing. My Wednesday was fine, but I did have a tot puke on my carpet. It smelled like curdled milk and I couldn’t get the stench out. Today I bought a little green machine – a Bissel carpet cleaning thing and I agreed to do the grocery shopping tonight if Coach would set it up and clean the carpet. Deal!
I would probably buy books for the kids for Christmas. The little girls mostly. I guess. I don’t buy books that often, because where on earth would I store them. I much prefer the free service of the library. (I’m also frugal minded).
I’m so glad you got to have a lot of me time while your car was being worked on. AND a repair that didn’t cost you anything? Even better!
That’s amazing that there are so many great shops near your dealership. Mine is in a deadzone, but I usually bring it in on a Friday morning so it’s one of the first cars getting done + I can just do work while I wait.
I would have a hard time buying just one thing at Barnes & Noble! I just went there last week and told myself I could only buy two books AND they had to be paperbacks since hardcovers can easily be $30+!
Yay for cat photos! Foxy seems like such a wonderful addition. I always watch carefully when a household ads another cat… so I’ll have some anecdotal information if we ever consider adding another animal. It seems like it’s going well for you guys!
I love when an errand that requires waiting is conveniently placed. Today I’m taking my son to a birthday party at our local mall and I’m kind of excited to have a couple hours to walk around, window shop, and run some errands. It’s been a long time since I went to the mall!
Sorry I haven’t commented in forever. It’s been a busy couple weeks!
