This week’s Tuesday Topic is: Favorite warm-weather snack, meal, or hydration tip. I don’t have any “tips” but I do have some fun summer drinks going on. I’ve already mentioned this one:

It’s like a ‘healthy” diet Coke! OR IS IT? I’m convincing myself it’s healthy because it’s sweetened with stevia, but it still has tartaric acid and citric acid in it- is that bad for my bones? LALALALALA…. right now I don’t want to know. Here’s another good one:

Now, THIS has to be healthy… right??? It’s black tea, flavored with peach and sweetened with stevia and monk fruit. There’s some vitamin C added (I I guess that’s the “benefits”?) This has a slight stevia aftertaste, but other than that I’m loving it.
Here’s another good one:

I discovered this tea when I visited HTeaO in Waco, Texas. I was helping my son move into his new apartment, and it was 110 degrees. These iced teas HIT THE SPOT.

Imagine my delight when I discovered you can order it on Amazon! This is green tea, with blueberry flavor, and again sweetened with stevia.
On my long work days, I’ve adopted Gretchen Rubin’s advice to “treat yourself like a toddler.” In other words, don’t let yourself get too tired, too hot, too cold, too hungry, too thirsty… she also says it helps to refer to yourself in the third person. “Gretchen needs a snack. Gretchen needs a nap.”
“Jenny needs lots of caffeine today” I’ll think, as I happily fill my water bottle with iced tea. It definitely makes the day more fun.
I can’t end a summer hydration post without a nod to LMNT!

On days when I do a longer run, I’ll fill my water bottle with LMNT and ice water, and sip on it all day. It’s nice to drink something with a flavor, and also feels like a reward for running in the hot sun.
Do you have any favorite summer drinks?
Next week’s topic: Summer solstice: what are you looking forward to this season?

Cold diet Coke from McDonald’s is my favorite summer drink. In the house, we go through tons of water, seltzer water, and sugar free powdered drink mixes ( I call it pink stuff and purple stuff- pink lemonade and grape- cheap and kids like it).
I’ll drink black ice tea in a pinch, with any sweetener.
I hadn’t heard of ” treat yourself like a toddler”- awesome framing of the situation! I should read her work.
Cold diet Coke… oh yes. And I would have liked “purple stuff” as a kid! Grape was my favorite flavor.
For races it’s water, Gatorade if I’m desperate and salt chews.
Starbucks cold brews and iced anything is my favorite drink.
In the evening it’s ice cream.
Or a fruit sour beer, hard cider or stout beer.
Yes, I’ll drink an ice cold beer! But make mine an IPA. And yes to “iced anything.”
The peach iced tea is the drink that stands out to me the most. My body is not happy with a lot of artificial sweeteners, so I avoid them when possible but other than that these drinks sound good.
Overall I drink less alcohol since I retired, so that’s opened the field up for soft drinks which I don’t normally drink. I don’t have them super often, just a few times a week when the mood strikes. Canada Dry Cranberry is my go-to. My other favorite might sound a little odd, but I like tonic water with lime – basically a gin & tonic without the gin. When I was in Austin it was very hot and I went to a pizza place for lunch and got a meal that came with pop. I wasn’t going to get the drink until I saw that they had Dr. Pepper and it was the best thing ever. But it was a one off.
Trader Joe’s has sparkling juices that are really good. I’m planning to load up on my next visit!
My body does well with stevia and monk fruit. Erythritol seems to bother me though. But anything is better than real sugar for me, since I’m a recovering sugarholic.
I love a good grapefruit sparkling water in the summer. Nothing tastes better than a cold beverage on a hot summer day.
Yes, I also like sparkling water! I don’t know about grapefruit though. I guess I should try it!
My favourite summer drinks are all alcoholic. Otherwise, it’s just water for me. I mean, I love a rose or crisp white in the summer, I love a margarita or a G&T. I love love LOVE Aperol spritz, that’s my favourite! I don’t like sodas or soft drinks, so I guess I’ll just be the boozy commenter here. I indulge on Fridays and Saturdays, and I look forward to those cocktail hours all week!
Ha, you can be the boozy commenter! And, you don’t like soda! I wish I could say that.
I also love watermelon LMNT! For long runs, I really like to freeze a packet of it in one of my flasks and then it stays cold longer. I heard they have a new lemonade iced tea flavor I haven’t tried yet but I ordered a couple of packets from The Feed to test out!
I usually have an Olipop or Poppi soda at work. They’re $$$ but I really like them and they give me some joy during my work day! And I think they’re at least healthier than regular soda so I don’t feel too bad about drinking them.
YES! I just heard about the new LMNT iced tea lemonade. I think it was advertised on Rich Roll’s podcast, which I listened to on my run today- he interviews Rachel Entrekin! It’s really good.
Anyway… Yes, I do like Olipop! But I don’t like their cola flavor, which is why I drink the Zevia.
Today is a “Lisa needs lots of caffeine” kind of day. For some reason, I did not sleep well and then Will was up at 5:45 yelling for us and I could not fall asleep after that. He rarely wakes us up these days so I was highly annoyed that it happened on a night when I slept so poorly! My favorite summer drinks are flavored seltzers. I really like mango and peach-flavored ones. Otherwise it’s just water for me. I also get a lot of hydration from eating lots of water melon!
Ugh… I hope you got through the day okay. Well actually that’s a silly thing to say- the day is over now and I’m sure you survived. But it doesn’t sound fun.
I like flavored seltzers, and I think I need to try peach!
My favorite summer drink is half green tea, half lemonade! I also bought some juice from Trader Joe’s recently that has mango and guava juice (and something else) that I like to mix with club soda. Yum!
That sounds good- but I would want black tea/lemonade combo. Although- my blueberry tea is green tea, and I like that. Maybe I should rethink my tea preferences.
Is it weird that my winter drinks and summer drinks don’t really change much? I get hot tea with breakfast and one to-go, I drink a LaCroix with lunch, and it’s Gatorade Zero or water for the rest? That doesn’t change by season. Maybe I should branch out a bit.
Living in Florida, my drinks don’t usually change be season. I guess I’m more thirsty in the summer so I’ve been drinking more. Also, I ALWAYS want hot tea in the morning, no matter how hot it is outside.
I drink too much Coke Zero. Otherwise it’s hot tea in the morning, and plain seltzer water in the afternoon. I love a crisp white wine in the evening, and lately I’ve been enjoying mocktails, specifically Paloma flavored. I’ve never had a real Paloma, which has tequila, but I love these. I see a lot of love for peach flavored beverages, and I’m glad someone likes them, because they are not my thing. I love peaches, and peach pie is excellent, but I don’t like peach flavoring. Actually, I think the only fruit flavoring that I like is citrus. I might try Birchie’s tip of G&T minus the G. That sounds refreshing.
OMG–“treat yourself like a toddler” is a fantastic strategy. I needed to read this today and be more gentle with myself.
I like to have an iced chai in the summer. Ideally I have time to make my own so I can make it just the right sweetness. But also fizzy water, no flavor preference. It’s funny, our soda stream sits next to our hot water boiler and I was just thinking how we’ve switched from using the hot water boiler several times a day and the soda stream once in a while to using the soda stream daily and the hot water boiler… well we still use it every day, just not multiple times in a day. And an ice cold Coke with lots of ice.
Summer is also all about boba tea for me, but I think of boba as more of a treat like ice cream than a drink.
The kids were just talking about how weird it is that they like to drink milk with their dinner when Coach and I do not. I grew up drinking milk and always drank milk with my meals. I think I stopped around the time I had kids. that doesn’t relate to summer drinks, but it was at the top of my mind. I really only drink water. I don’t like caffeine. I guess if I had to pick a summer drink fav it would be a margarita. If that’s wrong, I don’t wanna be right. 😉
