walkers walk… but runners fly

The Last Couple Days…

We did it! Sylvie has been spayed, phew. Tuesday was the big day. I had to drop her off at the vet at 9 am, but before that she had to fast, starting at midnight the night before.

On Tuesday morning, Muffin woke us up as always, meowing angrily for breakfast. We put her off as long as we could, but at 6:30 we got up. I closed Sylvie in the bedroom while the other two ate, but to distract her I opened the windows. This hasn’t happened in about three months (our AC is on nonstop) so she was VERY intrigued.

She was so entranced by the outside air, she sat on the windowsill and completely forgot about breakfast. Then Foxy came in, and they were both so excited, they raced around and around the house. I imagine Sylvie’s thought process going something like this: “This is the best day ever! I’m having so much fun! I wonder why- hey, what are you doing… I don’t want to go in there— NOOOOOOO!”

Stuffing her into the carrier was awful, but as my sister said, that’s usually the worst part. Once she was in, she rode silently to the vet, resigned to her fate.

After I dropped her off, I went to my trail for a run! The timing was… not ideal, since I couldn’t start running till 10. This is usually the kiss of death in Florida, in June, but I really wanted to get a trail run in. It was hot, but I was glad I did it!

Sylvie was at the vet all day, and I picked her up around 4. She was a little groggy, but VERY happy to be home!

Here you can see her shaved tummy…

The next day- Wednesday- she was tearing around the house like a maniac. I had to give her antibiotics, but opted to skip the painkillers- she definitely didn’t seem to need them. The vet gave me a cone just in case, but after the first day, where she gave herself a thorough bath (probably trying to get rid of the vet smell) she hasn’t been licking her wounds much.

Foxy is VERY happy to have her back!

After all that excitement, I needed a low-key day on Wednesday. A perfect example of why it’s great to have TWO days off of work- one day to get things done, and one to relax. I did do a couple fun errands. The library:

Continuing my Agatha Christie rereads.

… and Target, where I got two new additions to my summer drinks rotation. In my last post, Lisa mentioned peach-flavored seltzer. Hmm, that sounded good! I got this:

It’s delicious! And Ashley mentioned LMNT has a new lemonade iced tea… OH REALLY??? I got some but haven’t tried it yet. I’ll report back asap.

And now it’s back to work. Onward!

What’s your high and low of the week so far? – Low: stuffing Sylvie into the cat carrier. High: having her home, safe and sound!

    1. Yes, I hated that we had to do that to her- but as you said, it was necessary. She seems fully recovered, at least mentally- hopefully we won’t have to put her in the carrier again for a long time!

  1. Yay Sylvie for being on the other side! She is free to resume her life of snuggles and mischief. I always say that I am both a cat and a dog person, but man when it comes to going to the vet, dogs are so easy. A car ride is the most exciting thing ever for a dog. I always feel a little bad when we get to the vet and I see her demeanor change when she realizes where we are, but as soon as the appointment is over, she’s so excited to get back in the car.

The new summer drinks look good!

    1. Ha, yes, that would be a big benefit to having a dog! Although I would feel really bad when they realize you “tricked” them and you’re suddenly at the vet as opposed to a park or something. Well- it’s all part of taking care of our babies!

  2. the cone never worked for our cats, they manage to get out of it within minutes. Glad the big procedure is done!
LmNT with caffeine and ice team flavor! I need to get that!
just survived the 2am flight to panama, now should be easy to get to our sublet in DC this afternoon.

    1. Ooh! I didn’t realize your DC adventure was starting now. How exciting. And yes- I’ll try the LMNT this weekend and let you know. I can’t imagine that it WON’T be good.
Charlotte had to wear a cone once and she managed to turn it inside out, rendering it useless. So… glad it doesn’t seem necessary this time.

  3. Whew, it’s all done and in the rearview mirror! I’m so glad!
High of the week probably is finishing weeding ONE garden. Holy moly. It was like I planted a groundcover. It took three solid mornings of work to finish but I’m finished. The rest will be fairly easy after that.
Low of the week, I don’t think I have one. Nothing stands out like squishing a cat into a car carrier!

  4. Yay for Sylvie getting spayed! I’m glad she seemed to have no issues after the procedure and is back to normal.

I’m excited to hear how you like the LMNT! My Target didn’t have the flavor when I went last weekend (boo!) but I ordered some online so hopefully I can try it this weekend. I already like their lemonade flavor so I’m sure this one will be even more refreshing for summertime!

    1. I know- it has everything I want, including caffeine. I’m going to run on Saturday morning and then bring LMNT to work with me in my water bottle. I’m already looking forward to it.

  5. Yay for peach fizzy water! That is my favorite flavor – it takes like summer in a can! Yum! Now I kind of want to go track one down to have a lunchtime…

I am glad that Sylvie’s procedure is behind her. She seems to have tolerated it pretty well. I love how close her and Foxy are!!

The low of my week was Will’s absolute meltdown that happened last night. We were walking back from a neighbor’s house and he hit his foot on his bike or something and absolutely LOST IT. It was the worth tantrum he’s had in years – and of course it was in front of a neighbor (but this neighbor has young kids and has spent lots of time around Will so he knows that is not typical). I think Will would lay down in the afternoon during rest time in his PK program but we didn’t think he slept so we are wondering if he’s been a bit of a bear this week since there isn’t really rest/nap time in the summer program at school. I guess it’s better to get this out of the way now versus when Kindergarten starts but oof, it was a BAD NIGHT. They don’t have their program tomorrow since it’s Juneteenth – I hope and pray that he sleeps in (but I told Phil on the drive into work today that I just know he’s going to be up extra early since that is what tends to happen on weekends… and then he’s cranky and does not want to wake up on week days).

The high was going on a bike ride with Paul on Monday night. We biked all around the neighborhood and ended up at Will’s t-ball game. I tried going on a bike path with him a few weeks ago but some of the biker bike INCREDIBLY FAST so it was too unnerving for him. So we’ll stick to our quiet residential city streets for now. It was a gorgeous summer night and we stopped by to say hi to the costumed geese, too.

    1. Oh yes, I remember those days. I remember them all too well. It must be the change in schedule. You really haven’t been mentioning tantrums in a while. As you said, better to get it over with now but oof- it’s hard on you. GOOD LUCK with the long weekend! It’s funny because Will looks SO SWEET in the photos- and Angie was the same way. We look at photos now and comment on how adorable she was… but the truth is, she was SO DIFFICULT for several years.

  6. Kitty snuggles! Glad Sylvie recovered quickly.

High? Feeling better after 2 weeks of illness.
Low? My daughter’s summer school ends today so I’m in charge of summer for her now.

    1. Summer school ends today? That was quick! I’m glad you’re feeling better- two weeks is a long time to be ill.

  7. So glad that Sylvie’s spaying went well!

Your trail looks so appealing. Is it sandy? That first my brain went to snow when I saw how white the path is but then reason kicked in…

  8. your cats are so cute together… glad things went well with Sylvie.
    Dali is still isolated.

High… NYC sights and meet up with Cari.
    Low – NO RUNNING!!!!!!..

  9. Awww Sylvie sounds like she got through the ordeal with flying colors! How sweet Foxy is, cozying up to her.

It’s been a pretty lowkey week, so I’m not sure if I can pinpoint a “low.” Or a “high,” really, lol. No complaints, though!

  10. Woohoo – I’m glad you got the spaying OVER WITH. Now you can just focus on her recovery! And I’m glad she doesn’t have to wear a cone. That would make things 1000x more difficult.

Foxy and Sylvie’s relationship is the SWEETEST. Whenever Lila comes home from the vet, Eloise just hisses at her whenever she comes near because she smells different, sigh. They… tolerate each other, I guess.
