Hey there, just popping in with three completely unrelated topics! First of all… remember the graduation present dilemma- cash or actual present? Then I went to the Lego store and came away with… a gift card. WHICH WAS THE DUMBEST THING EVER. Several commenters said they would have given a Lego set with a gift receipt. Yes, that’s what I should have done!
So today I went BACK to the store, used the gift card to buy a Lego set (eye roll) and wrapped it up, with the gift receipt, for the graduate. The truth is, I had already bought graduation wrapping paper and I didn’t want it to go to waste.

He was really happy with it! He said he’s going to build the Lego, but if he decides to sneak back to the store and return it, that’s fine too.
Next random topic. This episode of Best of Both Worlds was super interesting! All about why movement is so important for our health. The biggest takeaway for me was, it’s regular movement THROUGHOUT THE DAY that counts. So even if you go to the gym in the morning for a great workout, you’re still not getting the health benefits you would from getting up and moving for five minutes at intervals all day long. I’m really active at work, but I can be a total sloth for the rest of the day. Evenings count too!
Last but not least… this past weekend was Cocodona 250, one of the most competitive ultra running races in the country. Rachel Entrekin won the race outright, beating all the men, all the women (including the GOAT Courtney Dauwalter) AND set a course record. GIRL POWER.
What random things would you tell me today?

Random from me: my grades are in, I sorted eight loads of laundry today and mowed the lawn, and one of my cats is making little snuffle/snore noises in his sleep.
I’ll have to remember about movement- I’m usually up and about, but sometimes I just sit. That’s why CBWC was good for me- made me more conscious about taking time to move.
EIGHT loads of laundry??? Egads. You’ve had a productive day. And- I love when cats make those noises! Why is everything they do so cute (I would be annoyed if my husband were doing that).
Rache’s performance is outstanding, she never looked tired, isn’t it crazy?!
YES!!! I listened to her on a podcast the day after she finished and she didn’t sound tired at all.
I love the grad wrapping paper! I haven’t listened to this week’s BOBW yet, but I’m looking forward to it.
Go Rachel go!!! Never mind beating the men, she beat Courtney!!!
I KNOW- she beat the GOAT. And the men. Sorry, I have to repeat that!
You’ll like this BOBW episode- so good.
Oooh I am so glad you went back and got the Lego set. What kind of a set was it?
Random things: we have houseguests this weekend, and I am so excited. It’s the long weekend here, which feels EARLY. I think this is the earliest the long weekend can be (it’s Victoria Day weekend in Canada). Other random things: I harvested my arugula yesterday and I kind of forgot how much produce I get in the garden. OMG I have so much arugula. But also – houseguests! So big arugula salads coming up. My husband’s iris garden is thriving right now and every morning new ones are blooming, so it’s very fun and exciting to see. The iris garden borders our carport so it’s the first thing I see when I go outside.
The Lego set is a car, part of some series or other. It’s a cool-looking car, and that’s what Nathan is into.
I love arugula! I hope your houseguests like it too, because they’re going to get a lot of it.
That grad wrapping paper is so fun. I love the compromise you came to and sushi is my fav, so you knocked that out of the park 🙂
My daughter and her friends will be graduating next year, so I figure I’ll get some mileage out of that roll of paper. i just can’t forget that I have it!
A lego set with a gift receipt is a good idea. Sorry you had to make two trips for it though.
Random things for me – this is a very busy afternoon/evening. I have a 2 pm meeting, my kids have two after school activities and I have my book club meeting.
Well, I had to make two trips because of my own foolishness- I always overthink these things and then end up doing the “wrong” thing. I didn’t mind going back to the store.
You do have a busy afternoon and evening but book club sounds fun!
I mean, the wrapping paper wouldn’t go to waste – surely you’ll need it in the future?! Even I, a 40something with no children, regularly use grad wrapping paper for the graduates in my life. But I like that you bought an actual LEGO set. You’re a cool girlfriend’s mom. Also, how come I didn’t know your husband’s name?! NOW I KNOW.
Random office facts about my life on a Wednesday morning during finals week: It’s really quiet in my office this morning and I’m contemplating closing my door and taking a nap. I have a secret way to engage students who come into my office – I have a pack of stickers with dogs on them and when I’m doing data entry/making copies, I have them pick out a sticker. I have yet to have a student refuse a sticker. I’m listening to my Spotify Discover Weekly list a little too loud. I’ve decided that reading blogs is more important than doing work. I’ve already sent like ten emails today, though, so I have earned a break. Okay, fine. Maybe this is TOO random.
I was super inspired by Rachel’s performance and how she only slept 19 minutes over the course of 250 miles! Honestly everyone at Cocodona inspired me, and I loved being part of the experience even though my race ended early. I’m planning to go back next year but trying the 80 mile distance, hopefully finishing that, and it would give me more confidence to come back to the 125 the following year.
Random.
1. I loved Florida and I’m tired of being cold. The weather has been rainy and damp since I returned.
2. I am bringing a bag of books to donate to our library book fair. Trying to de-clutter.
3. I haven’t cooked since April 29. Vacation, dinners out and leftovers.
I’m glad you went back and got the LEGO set. That’s a good idea to get a gift receipt.
Ugh, movement. I do a bit better with working from home since I take breaks often to do things around the apartment, but I am not so great about it in the evening!
Random thing for me is that I spent last week time tracking and I am SOOOO glad I don’t have to do it anymore haha. It is a lot of work! But lots of fascinating discoveries from it that I’ll be sharing soon.
