Hey there! Welcome to the Weekly Rundown, hosted as always by Kim and Deborah (thanks, ladies!) Also a big thank you to San for being our fearless NaBloPoMo leader!
I had a pretty great week- well, there was one little snafu, but I mean… I’m me, so it’s to be expected. Let’s just see how it all played out…
Sunday
15 mile long run on my favorite trail.

Most of this run felt great- I had a low point at mile 12, but got a second wind and finished feeling strong. Hooray!

Monday
I woke up feeling good- a little soreness in my quads, but nothing major. I started the morning with Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain..
Then, I was at work and suddenly out of nowhere, my foot started to hurt. It was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me (and I’ve had some crazy things.) One moment my foot was fine, the next moment there was a very distinct pain. It was like my body said “What? Nothing hurts? Let’s fix that.” It’s always something.
Tuesday
Yep, my foot still hurts. I started the morning with Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout., and then, grudgingly, went to the gym and got in 45 minutes of cardio, the hard way…

Wednesday
Leg day at the gym, plus hip stability exercises! Here I am at the squat rack, as usual.

Thursday
Okay, let’s try running. 4 miles, and the whole time I was thinking, “Do I feel my foot? Is that pain, or is it my imagination?” Finally I told myself that if I couldn’t tell if it hurt or not, it’s probably fine.

At night I did yoga for lower back pain again.
Friday
Caroline Girvan abs workout, and then upper body strength. And, yoga for lower back pain at night.
Saturday
It was a double workout day! In the morning I got out for a 5 mile run…

… and later in the day, my daughter was going to the gym so I went as well and got in another lower body workout.

When I go to the gym in the morning, it’s so crowded. Luckily there are eight squat racks so I always get one, but there are people on either side of me. If I try to take a video I feel like a jackass. It was less crowded on Saturday afternoon so I got a rare action shot!
By the way, if you’re looking at my running photos and thinking, “it looks kind of warm there” you’d be right.

I’m not loving 88 degrees in November… but you can see we have a cool front on the way!
Sunday
On tap for today… yoga! Other than that, a day off. From now on, I’m on a 10-day cycle for my long runs, so the next one will be Wednesday.
How was your week? Would you trade your weather for 88 degrees?

Good work with the squats! I hear you about the body saying “nothing hurts – let’s fix that!” That’s SO the norm these days it seems! So weird about your foot though. I agree – if you can’t tell if it hurts or not it’s probably fine. As you may understand, I’m very wary about foot pain. And even when my arm/shoulder has been off, I’ve been telling myself “ok, at least not the foot” (even if shoulder pain was awful too and restricted me way more in the gym).
Give me 88F any day!
Yes, I’m also wary of foot pain- i had a lot of foot issues (different from yours, but still bad) a few years ago. i have orthotics right now which are supposed to prevent that particular problem again, so hopefully they’re working.
WHY are squats so hard??? I’m trying to get to the gym twice a week now so hopefully I’ll make more progress.
I’m glad your foot pain didn’t linger — that’s so frustrating!
Just my luck, it’s been unseasonably cold and wet so far in Melbourne. Now that I’ve got work to do, it’s going to get nicer ….
Oh, that figures. Whenever I go somewhere it’s unseasonably warm, and I’m usually looking for cooler weather! I hope we get a recap of your trip soon.
It’s going to be in the low 30s here today and we might get a dusting of snow but 88 actually does not sound at all appealing in November! I’d take the rest of your weather for the week, though! It will warm back up to the upper 50s later this week.
I was back in the office last week so my workouts were impacted by that. I did manage to sneak in an OTF class on Thursday which felt good. I am going again this am at 7:30. Those have become my favorite workout! And next Saturday I am meeting a friend I used to train for a marathon with to run 5 miles around the lake in our neighborhood. I can’t remember the last time I saw her. It’s been years! So I can’t wait to reconnect with her. We will have way more than 5 miles worth of conversations!
And good news! The strike is not happening!! I am so relieved!! But I am going to have a heart broken little boy on my hands. He was very excited about a week at my parents. We will have to do it another time before he starts kindergarten, though.
Oh, that is good news- but bad news for Will I guess. You’ll definitely have to promise him a different week at your parents.
You’re lucky, it sounds like the winter storm is missing you- I know they’re getting dumped on with 10 inches of snow in Chicago! My son is getting ready for his first winter storm ever : )
The trail looks so great. I wouldn’t run it but definitely hike it.
Lots of people hike this trail! It’s really, really nice.
Idk if I’d trade weather for 88 degrees, but right now in Wisconsin it’s 32F, windy, and there’s snow on the ground. This is not ideal. I’m already grieving the end of our beautiful fall weather…
I’m glad there was nothing serious with your foot, and yes, it’s always something!!
So glad your foot is doing alright!! Hope it continues to feel good! And yes, I’d take 80 degrees. We’re due for snow next week!
You guys have a major storm headed your way! I know this because my son keeps us updated on the weather. Still- 88 in November just seems wrong.
I am reading this poat, looking at your weather as I prep to leave for a run in the first snow of the winter. A wonderful chill of -5 C. I’d take your temps any day!
Eek. Well, I hope you bundled up! I don’t miss those snowy runs.
Oh jeez, Jenny — it’s always something, isn’t it?! I am so glad your foot pain was fairly short-lived.
It’s rainy and cool here and we are supposed to get six inches of snow!!!! I am so excited!
My son is excited too- it will be his first big winter storm. They are getting a LOT of snow in Chicago! Enjoy your weather- it sounds cozy.
It is annoying when those random pains just pop up out of nowhere! Glad it seems to be exiting. Hope you get some cooler temps this week ahead!
We are definitely looking forward to cooler temps! 88 is almost 90, and I’m over it.
“What? Nothing hurts? Let’s fix that!” You had me almost falling off my bar stool, laughing at that! I can totally relate. Just last night, as I was going upstairs, I realized my hip wasn’t hurting. Isn’t it crazy, we get so used to the niggles and phantom aches, that we don’t notice when they disappear? (I shouldn’t have typed that…probably just jinxed myself, LOL)
Ha ha… well, your hip pain has to go away at some point- nothing lasts forever!
Your poor foot! I have some foot pain this weekend but there’s a reason for that. I was putting something away in my pantry – and I didn’t turn on the light, because why would I? I know where everything is. When I pushed the basket in which I keep bags of nuts back into its space on the shelf, it knocked a jar of peanut butter off, and it landed directly on my second toe of my left foot. I thought it was broken, honestly. It’s not, I can bend it, but wow is it bruised. That was Friday night and today it feels a little better. Yesterday it was so bad, putting on my sock almost had me blacking out. Yikes! I was able to wrap it up and still walk Rex and go see my friends, etc., but what a dumb injury.
Oh yes, I’ve had things like that fall on my foot, and it HURTS. Glad it’s not broken- I hope it feels better soon.
Oh jeez, it’s always something (with all of us)! Did you ever figure out where the foot pain came from? Hope it continues to abate!
No, I never figured out what caused the foot pain. But it’s gone, so I’m happy.
I would 100% trade my weather for 88 degrees. It’s snowing here, Jenny. SNOWING.
Yes, I know you guys are getting a major storm! At least, I know Chicago is getting a ton of snow tonight. Not sure how much of it will be hitting you.
It’s supposed to be 87 degrees here today so basically the same weather, though it’s supposed to cool significantly to 63 by Friday! So we are skipping the 70s and going straight from 80s to 60s I guess.
I’m sorry about the foot pain but glad it improved! I do sometimes get random pains after runs that resolve on their own, usually when I’m tapering for a race so I’m freaking out that I’m injured and won’t be able to run!
I can’t believe it’s so hot there! It was a very nice fall week here and now today it’s been snowing all day. The snow won’t stick around, but it has made me excited to stay indoors all day and get things done!
That’s so weird about your foot. Nothing like annoying pains just for the heck of it! Glad it went away.
It snowed here last night. Oof. I was not ready for that. It melted today but still WINTER IS COMING. That will impact my walks and runs
My foot started hurting a few weeks ago. It came and went. I worried about a stress fracture. Coach looked at it- said I needed to stretch it out before workouts. Forget the name of what was wrong, but it’s been fine since.
It’s been cold and windy, rainy and maybe snow tomorrow… yes give me heat!
Hope your foot pain was nothing.
It was 24 when I went out for a run today. The silver lining was I did not walk at all because it was so freaking cold. Around 30 min mark, I was warm and felt like I could go forever LOL
I haven’t dared go on the stairmaster at the gym yet. My old gym had one that was just paddle things you went up and down on rather than a weird bit of an escalator and I’ve convinced myself I’ll fall off! Good work on that 15-er. I am up to 4.2 mi now, so getting there (somewhere).
