Hellooooooo! I missed last week’s rundown because I was in Indiana FOR MY SON’S WEDDING!!!

The wedding was so, so beautiful- there isn’t one thing about the whole experience that I would change. On Sunday we returned home after a long travel day, and I spent this week trying to get back to reality. Sigh, It’s hard to have this big event be over!
I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah– thanks, ladies! Here’s how the week played out.
Monday
4 mile run! Remember the sore hip? It’s still a bit cranky, but nothing I can’t run through.

Tuesday
Day off from work, and I spent it on some nagging tasks. On our return home, we were greeted with a serious of mini- house tragedies, such as a leaking hot water heater, a flood in the garage, and once we got everything cleaned up and couldn’t figure out why the house still smelled, we discovered one of the cats peed all over the rug in my son’s room (I guess now known as the “guest room”) while we were gone. ARRRRRG!

Wednesday
Okay, I seriously have to get my life back. I needed some trail therapy, so I got out to my favorite one for a nice 6.5 mile run.

I got to see my “running spirit animal”, ha ha…

At night I did Adriene’s yoga for runners.
Thursday
I did some lower body strength (bodyweight only), hip stability exercises and some hip PT.
Friday
4 mile run!

So now that the wedding is over, I don’t have to do upper body strength anymore, right? Hahaha… wrong. Later in the day I did an upper body strength workout. Sigh.
Saturday
Another 4 mile run! This felt good despite a very poor night of sleep.

At night- lots of foam rolling, which felt great on my hip.
Sunday
On tap… more hip PT and lower body strength. The hip is nagging at me just enough to remind me to do my exercises.
So, the summer is almost over for us! We have one more week until school starts. ACK!!!
How was your week? When does school start where you live?
Is it too early to start thinking about pumpkins? – (heh heh…)

sorry to hear about the house incidences when you were gone, not the best way to come back home. What did you do with the rug? I heard that cat pee is hard to clean.
school starts on Monday here so we are almost back to routine.
Ha, the rug is out waiting for trash pickup. We didn’t even attempt to rescue it- we would never get that smell out.
Congrats to your son and DIL!!! It looks like a beautiful wedding. Will they be living in Indiana?
I can only imagine how good it felt to put your shoes on that beautiful trail! Heading out in a bit myself before I have to go to the BABY SHOWER! It’s getting real…
GAH!!!! The baby shower! I’m so excited for you.
My son and DIL both have one more year of their masters at Northwestern, and then they will live wherever they can get jobs!
Oh, I cringe hearing about your hip issues. Whatever exercise you are doing, do them 10x slower than you think you should — that’s what I’ve learned in PT. 😉
We still consider my son’s room “his” room even though he and his wife use another guest room (with a bigger bed) when they stay over!
Yes, I remember you said that and I have been doing the exercises slowly- but it sounds like I should be going even slower than I am. Thanks for the tip!
C’mon cats, the “wedding present” that you left was not nice. It’s a good thing they’re cute!
Bravo on getting to the finish line of a major event, and here’s to finding the next one. Happy running (psst…hip, we see you. Calm down already!)
Ha ha, yes, maybe they thought that was a great wedding/welcome home present. OR, maybe they were mad at us for leaving! Either way… cat pee is not my idea of a “gift.”
Not the hip, Jenny! I’m glad you were able to fit in a trail run. I bet that felt good.
You know how I feel about fall. BRING IT ON. It is my favourite season by a long shot. Though I’m not ready for pumpkins quite yet. It’s still too hot out.
Home ownership is just a constant barrage of things that need fixing or buying or cleaning! I know it’s a huge blessing to have a roof over my head, and I am very aware of that, but it doesn’t stop me from complaining about the maintenance!
I KNOW. It’s always something, with a house.
I’m excited for “fall” although we don’t really have nice wether here till December. Still- you know I’ll be getting out the pumpkins next month!
Huge congratulations to you all! It is hard to get back to reality after a wedding! Will they be living in Indiana? I’m still a Hoosier at heart 🙂 Sorry to read your hip is still bothering you.
They’re still in Chicago, finishing up one last year of their masters (for each of them). Then they will live… wherever they can get jobs! They would probably like to stay in the area because it’s close to her family. They don’t want to live in the south!
Eew, cat pee is the worst. My (late) cat Torsten once peed in my mandolin case. I had to rip all the soft stuff out and put pieces of a blanket in there instead. NOT fun! At least with a rug you can have it cleaned! Seems there was some trauma while you’re away, wasn’t there something about a dead pet rat too?!
Good to see you back running! Do you think the hip exercises seem to be helping so far?
Yep! One of our rats died. And, we just threw the rug away. It was a large area rug, so not exactly easy to take up (it was underneath most of the furniture so we had to lift up multiple heavy things to get it up) but then it was an easy decision to just get rid of it. Now trying to decide if we should risk another area rug in that room or just have no rug at all.
I think the hip exercises are helping??? Hard to say- something is helping- the hip is definitely better than it was.
Gah, that is a rough series of issues to come back to! Yikes! That would put me in a really bad mood!
The boys still have 5 more weeks of summer break! We go back after Labor Day so their break is especially long! I wish LDW was not so dang late. Like can we have a rule that it’s the first Monday in September unless the first Monday is later than the 4th? lol. The boys have care for all 5 weeks so it’s not a heavy lift for us. I am just ready to get them back in school. We’ve been making Paul do some math and wow is he resistant. But when the summer break is so long, I feel like we need to have him do some work so he doesn’t lose ground.
It does seem a little crazy that everyone just can’t be on the same school schedule. i mean, our schedules are wildly different. What if you’re trying to plan vacations with family who live in a different state? Anyway… I have mixed feelings about it, but I think I’m ready for school to start.
CONGRATS to you and your son!! Wow, that is a big milestone. Sorry about the cat issues while you were gone – coincidence they peed in his room during his wedding? Sorry also about the hip–hoping it feels better soon!
Ha, yes maybe there’s a REASON Sylvie peed in Paul’s room- like it was her idea of a big sendoff for him? Anyway… yes, it’s a big milestone! I would have enjoyed it even more without the cat pee though.
Ugh to the hip issues and the house things, but at least there’s running to help you feel better! I love when I see a tortoise out on the trails too, but it’s been awhile for me.
School starts this Thursday here! But where my parents live, some of the districts already started back in mid-July! That’s just way too early. Growing up in Colorado, we always started in mid August which felt about right.
Growing up in Illinois, we always started after labor day. I have heard that school in AZ start in July, which seems so wrong. That is DEFINITELY still summer!
Oh, cat pee is the worst. If you cant get the smell out, the cat will go back to that area to do his business. Hydrogen peroxide can help neutralize it, should your floor smell where the carpet was.
I have one who is peeing on the basement floor to protest his new diet ( he’s too chunky,-I have to restrict his food) and the disruption our rearranging and painting of the basement. Also, there’s a stray cat thats been wandering by which irratates both cats, so it could be that. I wound up buying a new litter box to put in the new pee spot. He likes it so far.
Good luck easing into normal!
Okay, thanks for the tip. The carpet has obviously been trashed, and we sprayed a pet odor neutralizing spray on the floor. Hard to say if it’s going to work yet, because we’ve been keeping that door closed for now. If it turns out it didn’t work, we’ll try hydrogen peroxide.
Good luck with your situation- at least it’s in the basement!
Congrats to everyone! I bet it feels good to have all the stress over and done, but I can totally understand the “down” side of having such an exciting (much anticipated) event in the real view mirror. I just saw a huge Halloween candy display in the grocery store last week, complete with a giant blow-up pumpkin…
Ha! Yes, I’m starting to see fall/Halloween things around. Very exciting! Well, for me- maybe not for everyone.
Such a great picture of the wedding! It looks a lot like the church I was married in. I’m glad it went so well! I can’t believe school starts already for your daughter. Where did summer go??
Ugh on the disasters when you got home from traveling. My cat Sam has peed in an area of our carpet. There was a lingering smell and we were going to replace the carpet with some leftovers we had, but I haven’t noticed it lately. Maybe we won’t need to?
I hope the PT exercises keep that hip pain away! I was also reminded that I need to do my knee exercises this week.
Wow, if Sam stopped peeing all on his own you are lucky! Usually it’s hopeless once they start. We threw the carpet away and are hoping the smell isn’t lingering on the floor.
I’m a bit behind in everything so a huge congratulations to your son and daughter in law, the wedding looked so wonderful. Sorry about the things that went wrong while you’re away, hope the water heater is fixed and you get a nice new rug. Our cat peed on my son’s carpet a couple of years ago and it took forever to get rid of the smell. Can’t wait to replace the carpet one day. And that trail run looks so nice!

Thank you Sophie! Yes, we threw the rug away and I’m looking at new ones! We also have a shiny new water heater, SIGH.
I don’t know when public school starts, but our students come back on September 2 and I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO before they get here. ARGH!!!! Why did July go by so fast?
I like that you can see Angie’s hair so clearly in that bride and groom photo. You’ll never miss her in those photos!
Ha, yep that’s her! No one else had hair like that at this wedding. And I agree- what in the world happened to July???
Hope the hip thing clears up.
You did get quite a few runs in during the week.
School doesn’t start here until after Labor Day..
The summer is going by so quickly.
Yes, the summer goes by especially quickly when we start school so early! To be fair, we got out early too, so summer started early for us.
Congrats again to your son and new daughter-in-law.It’s been such an exciting time for you that I can imagine how you’re having post-event depression. I’ll head over to read your other recaps once we got decent cell service again (today’s a travel day and we’re kind of in the middle of nowhere).
Wow, school starts in a week? You must really feel like your summer flew by!
Have a great week, Jenny!
Thank you Debbie! The summer DEFINITELY flew by!
Come on, hip! Get with the program!
Yuck on the cat pee. That is so hard to get out. I guess they weren’t happy about being left at home 🙁
I’m so glad you had such a wonderful time!
