walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Beating the Heat

Sunday

It was a delightfully cloudy day, and I was just about to head out for a run when my son called. I decided to walk and talk, and after an hour of walking, we hung up, and then I ran 3 miles.

The clouds kept me from overheating!

Monday

Upper body strength session at home. Remember how I fell on the trail last week and hurt my arm? I still can’t do lateral raises! But I can do everything else, and I’m sure that shoulder will come around eventually.

Tuesday

10 mile trail run! I ran on trails in a local park- not as interesting as my favorite trail, but I was able to get started earlier (right after I dropped my daughter off). As I mentioned in Friday’s runfessions, I stopped at my car mid-run to get ice. I finished this run feeling pretty good!

At night, I did Adriene’s yoga for runners.

Wednesday

In the morning, a 4 mile run.

Later in the day, a lower body strength session at home. At night I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain.

Thursday

In the morning I did an upper body strength session at home, and came to the reluctant conclusion that I need to work out at the gym if I really want to challenge myself (darn it!)

Later in the day I got out for a 45 minute walk.

Friday

After work, I went to the gym to run on the treadmill. 4.5 miles with some (modest) speed work thrown in.

Ah… the nice, air conditioned gym!

Saturday

Leg day at the gym! Last week, Susanne noticed a leg press machine in the background of my photo. She asked if I ever used it. No, should I? I should! I tried it out this week and really liked it. I also did abs and back.

I left the gym and headed to work, feeling good that the hardest part of my day was already over. A really intense leg day is still harder than giving massages for eight hours!

At night… MUAHAHAHAHA! College football has begun! I lit one of my fall candles, and happily settled in with my Chipotle to watch the games.

Sunday

On tap… running! That will take place later in the afternoon, because in the morning I’m sleeping in.

Overall it was a good week! Moving forward, I need to get to the gym more. I’m looking at Monday and/or Thursday mornings to hit the gym before work. Ugh. As I’m writing that I’m thinking “but I don’t want to!” Well… I’ll try it this week and see how it goes.

Are you excited for football? – We also watched a Dolphins preseason game this week!

Is it still hot where you are, or starting to cool down?
