Hey there! It’s time for the Weekly Rundown, hosted by Kim and Deborah (thanks, ladies!) While I wouldn’t describe this week as exciting, it was satisfying- I continued on with Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series, threw in a few runs and mixed it up with some yoga. I’m liking the Iron Series (for now) because I don’t have to figure out what I’m going to do or think about it too much- I just do the next workout in the series. Here’s how the week played out!
Monday
I reported to the gym directly after work, and ran 4 miles on the treadmill. The AC felt great, and I threw in a little speed work.

Tuesday
Iron Series Day #9- full body. I did this in the morning, because after work I GOT A MASSAGE! I came home and collapsed into a puddle for the rest of the evening.
Wednesday
It was my day off, so as soon as I got my daughter off to school, I ran 4 miles. Later in the day I did Adriene’s yoga for psoas.

Thursday
In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for tired legs. Later in the day it was Iron Series Day #10- back and biceps.
Friday
In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for low back mobility. In the afternoon, I debated between running or doing the next Iron Series workout, which was legs. I decided if I did a leg workout today, I would bitterly regret it on my run tomorrow. 4 mile run!

Saturday
Iron Series Day #11- legs. If you like lunges, this is the workout for you! Soooo glad I did this today and my run yesterday, instead of vice versa.
Sunday
On tap for today- Iron Series Day #12, chest and triceps.
So, this week was nice, if a little on the dull side. Next week will balance it all out- we have several band events, including two concerts and a banquet. Onward to the end of the school year!
When was the last time you got a massage?
If you have kids- is the end of the school year in sight? Do you have a lot of events before it ends?

All that stretching and yoga must have felt great!! I’m a big fan of massages myself. I got one this week too 🙂 Have a fab week ahead
Thank you Deborah! Glad you got a massage!
It seems like a nice steady week for your exercise!
No massages here- not my bag.
The crazy of end of school starts this week with a concert, track meets, big project due. then AP exams and finals start in May. Already I almost missed a small awards ceremony ( son ran out to car to grab me at pick up time. ) I’ve got to watch my calendar carefully.
I hope the end of semester goes smoothly for your family!
Thank you! It’s so much easier with only one kid at home. She has several things coming up, but I have them all written down in my planner (at least, I hope I do) so there’s not much chance of me missing anything. It would be way harder with multiple kids!
A massage lovely and like exactly what you need !! I agree- lunges a day before the run may have been painful! Nice job keeping up with the new workout videos. They sound like a nice variety!
They are! And, I’m sore today from those lunges yesterday- glad I’m not running.
Massages not my bag either.
But either is working out.
Good luck with all those end of the year activities.
I’ll be joining you in complaining about the heat.
Yes, you might be complaining a little when you run that 5k down here! On the other hand, you might get a nice breezy morning and it will be comfortable. Definitely warmer than you’re used to though.
I love what I’m seeing here – an off season investment in your future fitness. The gains are on the way!
It’s been a while since Iron, but I was triggered by reading about the lunges workout. So many lunges… The chest and tri workout sounds good though.
Yes, some of these workouts are SO intense on one move. I’m thinking of some really horrible hip thrust workouts as well. I like the way you put that- an off season investment in future fitness. I’ll remind myself of that when I’m feeling bored with this!
Great job on your recovery, Jenny! And a massage sounds wonderful! I’ve been thinking about getting one lately–my back has been tight from all those overhead lifts we’re doing at the gym. Thank goodness for Adriene!
Yes, Adriene REALLY helps!!! And, get that massage- it will feel good.
Ah, I need a good massage that leaves me in a puddle. My last massage was a few years ago, and it wasn’t great. I need to stop trying resort hotel massages (I was there for a meeting) and find a good place close to home.
The strength workouts may not be exciting, but hopefully the results will be!
Yes, find a place and tell them exactly what type of massage you’re looking for- relaxation, sports, focus on any specific areas. Hopefully you’ll have a good experience this time.
Nice job on all the CG workouts! Her leg ones are so darn tough! I am due for one soon. I had a good week of workouts and made it to 5 OTF classes this week since I fit one in when I was in NJ. I’ll be heading to one shortly.
I love getting massages! I am thinking about taking Tuesday off and will try to get a massage in the afternoon if I can find an opening. I am thinking about doing the first stage of exposure therapy and figure a massage is a good reward for that unfun task.
Yes, get a massage!!! Exposure therapy is going to be tough and you need a reward. Nice job on the workouts this week- 5 OTF classes!!!
So, massage givers can also be on the receiving end 🙂 it’s been a long while since I’ve had one… my bad! I wouldn’t call your week dull, but consistent!
I can get a free massage once a month at work! Sometimes it’s hard to schedule them though. And yes, I’ll reframe my week as “consistent.” That’s good!
A lot of good work can be done during “boring” workout weeks. Good for you for putting in that hard work between your race training cycles!
I have no idea when school ends here, but it’s usually mid to late June. It was always early June where I grew up.
The last massage I got was probably 20 years ago when the runners I coached gave me a gift certificate – I have a lot of trouble spending money on myself for things like that… 🙁
I’ve actually never had a massage! It sounds lovely though and maybe I should get one someday.
School ends for the district I work for on May 22, so just about a month out. I do work year round though but it’s much quieter for most of the summer which is nice! But the next few weeks will be pretty busy with covering end of the year activities. I’m fine with that if it makes the work days go by faster! I have a lot of time off coming up in May and June and looking forward to that!
Ashley, you should definitely get a massage. I would say schedule on for after your race, but maybe you want to wait and see what kind of condition your legs are in first. If they’re really torn up for some reason (falls, foliage, etc) you might not want a massage right away. But I definitely think you should get one.
Wow, May 22 is early- even earlier than us. Glad you have some time off coming up!!!
DEBBIE. You deserve a massage! You are worth it! Your body needs it after all your workouts and gardening.
The massage therapist I see trades massages off premises I think, with the other massage therapists. I feel like it’s such a physical job, you need it! And then add in all of your weights and running and yoga, and you need it even more.
My daughter gave me a gift certificate for a massage for my birthday…and it’s almost May and I haven’t used it yet. I need to get on that. I love my massage therapist. She used to be an acupuncturist in China, and incorporates a lot of her knowledge into hitting pressure points and so on. I think she’s the BEST, but my daughter saw her once and said ‘meh’. So we all want different things I guess.
Yes, people definitely want different things from massages. A big part of it is understanding what they’re hoping to get from the massage- relaxation? Pain relief? Do they want the whole massage to feel good, or are they willing to have a bit of discomfort to work out some issues? Where I work, there are a lot of therapists and everyone has different techniques, so there’s something for everyone.
Get your massage!!!
I think we’ve talked about how much I dislike massage, haven’t we? I just don’t care for strangers touching me. Outside of PT appointments, the last massage I had was almost twenty years ago and that is okay with me!
I do not have kids, but the end of the semester is in a couple of weeks here and things are insane and I’m behind in grading and I currently wonder every day why I work in this field!
Great week!
You know me: I don’t love massages. It’s been years since I’ve had one.
A’s last day of school is May 8. Graduation is May 19. It’s all moving very fast now.
