Hi there! Welcome back to the Weekly Rundown. This was a good week, marred only by sickness in other members of my family. My daughter and her boyfriend both got a stomach virus, and my husband has a bad cold. I’m just waiting to be struck down by one or both of these (maybe I’ll get them both at the same time- that would be fun). However, as Winnie the Pooh said (when Eeyore was trying to veto a picnic on the grounds that it could rain) “Rain isn’t rain until it falls from the sky in drops. Until then, we might as well have fun.” I’m enjoying my good health while it lasts!
Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting. Here’s how the week played out!
Sunday
I did Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series Day #18, glutes. This has hip thrusts in it, but also lunges and some other moves- so it’s not a workout comprised only of 10,000 hip thrusts (like a couple of her other ones). I also got out for a 40 minute walk!
Monday
In the morning- a 4 mile run. That was it for the day!

Tuesday
Ah, it was quite a day. I had to take Sylvie to the vet to be spayed. I was dreading it, but it went well and she’s doing great.

I had to drop her off at 9 am, so couldn’t get out to the trail until 10. I had a HOT 8 mile run- but I enjoyed it.

Wednesday
In last week’s post, when I mentioned doing an arm workout for the sake of vanity, Susanne reminded me not to neglect shoulders! I listened and obeyed. Caroline Girvan Iron Series Day #15 is a sizzling shoulder workout (her words, not mine). I also got out for a 30 minute walk, just ahead of a thunderstorm.
Thursday
After work I hit the treadmill for a 4 mile run with some speedwork. While I ran I listened to this episode of Everyday Ultra, all about mobility for runners. I was inspired to look up the exercises he talked about, and when I got home I did a hip mobility routine. Maybe this will help my low back?

Friday
Caroline Girvan Iron Series Day #26. I think this is my favorite of her lower body workouts. It’s a circuit of seven exercises that you repeat three times- so it’s not all focused on one thing, but a mix of squats, RDLs, lunges, step ups… highly recommend! I also did my new hip mobility routine.
Saturday
In the morning- a 5 mile run!

This run felt pretty good, and afterwards I tried the new flavor of LMNT, lemonade iced tea. I LOVE IT! I put it in my water bottle with ice water, and sipped on it all day at work.
At night- hip mobility again!
Sunday
Happy Father’s Day! Here’s the card I got my husband:

As it happens, my daughter is out of town, so we’re having a low-key day. Since my husband is still sick we’re planning to go out to dinner tomorrow or the next day. Also on tap- a full body strength workout. Also… yoga? How did I not do any yoga this week??? Sigh.
How was your week? Do you do any mobility routines?- I have a quick one I do before most runs, but my new moves focus much more on hips.

I dont have any mobility routines I do, but ive been doing some hip PT exercises that change each week, if that counts? Nice job this week, especially with the heat! 8 miles in heat is no small feat!
Yes, that 8 mile run felt a lot longer than 8 miles! Maybe it was because I was going so slowly, lol.
I’ll bet the hip PT includes some mobility work.
Oh, I hope you don’t get sick. And I guess your daughter and her boyfriend recovered in time for their trip? That’s good!
I like circuit-style workouts, especially longer ones so it’s a while before you repeat the same move.
Well… the bf was completely recovered. My daughter was still a little shaky on the plane flight- she texted me “I’m feeling better- I ate two crackers.” Hopefully by now she’s recovered.
Yes to circuit workouts! They’re my favorites right now.
Ugh a stomach bug! I hope you manage to avoid that and the cold. That is a rough week for health in your family!
That card is so perfect. If I saw it, I’d buy it for Phil, too. We both have a good sense of humor about parenting which is a requirement I think.
I have zero mobility routines. I should probably do something! I do a guided stretch session at the end of my OTF workouts but sadly that’s it.
Well- at least you’re doing a stretch session. At some point you could add in mobility, but right now you’re probably busy enough- and if nothing is bothering you, you’re probably good without it right now.
Yes- I was walking past the card section in Target, saw that card and burst out laughing. It’s definitely perfect for us.
Hope you stay healthy.
Your trail does look pretty.
I definitely need mobility something.
Right now I may be regretting a race because my Achilles is back being sore. Sigh.
UGH. Well- I hope the race was fun at least. You probably would have regretted not doing if if you skipped it. BUT- was it your chiro who helped you with the other achilles??? Are they helping you with this one? Sounds like you need some kind of treatments. You have a lot of fun races planned for the summer so that achilles needs to heal up ASAP.
Ugh on everyone being sick, but I feel good about your chances of escaping the plague. What’s our mantra? Oh yes, “what if it all works out”.
YES! Right now I’m embracing that. I’m not sick now, so who’s to say I can’t stay that way?
Ooh sounds like your family had a challenging week! Hope everyone is starting to feel better and that you don’t catch it! I like circuit style workouts too sometimes and the shoulders are tough but feel so good afterwards
Yes, the shoulder workouts are tough- but it definitely feels like I’m getting stronger! We’ll see if my shoulders look amazing in time for the wedding, lol.
First a Linus quote, and now a Winnie the Pooh quote! Truly the sages of our time, right?
I absolutely love that Father’s Day card. Another good one would be “What Were We Thinking?!” ; )
Ha ha… I like your second card option. AND- I took a quiz online last year, “Which WInnie the Pooh character are you?” and I got Winnie the Pooh. At first I was a little offended, I mean I was hoping for Tigger maybe- but I guess I am a little Pooh-ish.
I hope you stay well! I got a Summer cold this past week and it has been miserable. I think I’m on the healing end of it, but yuck! That path does look beautiful, but also looks hot. 🙂 Hope you have a great week ahead!
Thank you Sue! I hope you feel better soon. Yes, my husband said this cold was a bad one. So far I still have not gotten it!
I saw a few kids in clinic this week with a stomach bug! Clearly the virus didn’t get the message that it’s summer? I hope you don’t get it.
Your trail is so lovely–I’d like to put my shoes on that sand…
Enjoy your low-key day. Adriene misses you…
I’ll be back, Adriene! : )
And… you would like this trail. It would definitely feel different from you midwest trails!
I love your attitude about enjoying health and getting things done while you have it. I hope you somehow manage to avoid both those viruses. The hip mobility routine should help your lower back a lot! I guess what I do would be called hip mobility. I usually do hip cars, hip airplanes, hip flexor stretches, 90/90 and the figure 4 stretch, all or most of them every day.
So Sylvie never needed the cone? That’s fantastic! The 10 am must have been tough but OH that trail!! I’d love to walk there!
No, Sylvie never needed the cone! Phew.
One of the moves I do now is hip cars, and another one might be what you’re calling hip airplanes. I think it should definitely help my back!
Hopefully, your husband and daughter (and her boyfriend) start feeling better quickly, and you don’t catch either of their ailments.
Yay for Sylvie doing so well with her surgery! Hope she got lots of treats during her recovery. 🙂
Oh, Sylvie got treats. She had to take antibiotics twice a day, and after the first day the only way I could get her to take them was by mixing it with a treat. She was living the life!
I heard a onthe shoulders needing attention (as well as ones arms). I’ve been doing a lot more upper-body workouts that have shoulder-focused moves, adn “m now noticing the definition coming back (somehow, I drifted away from such moves and am rallying back). I hope everyone is feeling better soon!
Thanks Kim! I agree about the shoulders- and, I like doing shoulder strength more than just arm anyway. Of course it goes without saying that my triceps always need attention. Sigh.
I used to do LOADS of mobility work! I even was certified as a mobility trainer for a while if you can believe that! Most of the things I used to do are far out the window now though. but for sure it helps!
hoping you don’t get sick – crossing everything!! glad kitty baby is ok too!
Thank you Renee! Sylvie and I are both doing well- she’s all recovered and I’m still holding off the various illnesses.
So you were a mobility trainer? That’s interesting! I’m determined to stick with it and see if it makes a difference.
I do hip and shoulder mobility sequences almost every time I workout. SO so important. I find I carry so much tension in my shoulders and I want to do everything I can NOT to get that dowager hump. Ha! You definitely had a great week of workouts. Fingers crossed you can avoid all the germs. Glad to hear Sylie came through the spaying with flying colors. I going to schedule Monty’s neuter when he goes for his shots on Wednesday.
Yes, I should definitely do shoulder mobility as well. And, good luck to Monty! I know these are very straightforward operations that they do all the time, but I was still worried. A week later, Sylvie is totally fine- it’s like it never happened.
I try to do yoga or stretching every day. I have been doing some mobility exercises for my bad leg and I have to admit that I think it’s just making my pain worse instead of better. I might have to just resign myself to the fact that my mobility in that ankle is what it’s going to be.
Again, I am dumbfounded at how you do the same things repeatedly. I just get so bored!
Yes, but did you notice I didn’t do the yoga with Adriene low back video this week? I guess I go in spurts.
That is SUCH A BUMMER about your ankle. Seriously. I’m really annoyed on your behalf. But it does sound like the mobility exercises are making it worse, not better, so… stick with your yoga and stretching. You’re probably still more flexible than most people!
I love that card. I showed it to my husband and we both got a good chuckle out of it! One of the things we say to each other a lot is “Worst roommates ever!” That was a line from Jim Gaffigan.
I hope you’re still feeling okay. I always feel very on-edge when my kids get sick knowing that it could soon trickle down to me. I hope your daughter was able to enjoy the time away. Being sick is never fun. Being sick while travelling is doubly horrible.
I also just glanced at the date and realize it’s only a little over a month until your son’s wedding. SO EXCITING, Jenny!!!!
I KNOW. It’s coming right up. Somehow I don’t feel ready. I wonder if they feel ready? I’m nervous!!!
So far I’ve managed to avoid the viruses. My daughter was very sick the day before she traveled, and then flew to NY not feeling 100%- but she reports that now she’s fine.
I love that card!! So funny! I really hope you avoid all of the sickness going around your house. And sorry for them! Who wants to be sick in the summer!
I’m glad the cat surgery went well. Your cat picture reminded me that I needed to make annual checkup appointments for my cats. Done!
You are going to be in such great shape for the wedding. Yes, don’t forget those shoulders! I did a workout with my daughter today and I know I’m going to be feeling it tomorrow. I usually don’t do as much shoulder work as she does.
Haha…. just as I was about to reply, Sylvie jumped on the keypad and typed a bunch of nonsense. Yes, she’s feeling better! And so far I’m hanging in there- not sick yet.
Ah, these youngsters and their workouts! I think if I worked out with my daughter I would be completely immobilized the next day.
If by mobility routines, you mean a proper warm up and post-workout stretch, then yes 🙂
