Well, it was quite a week. I love the week of Thanksgiving, and this year was extra special because my son was home after being away for three months at school. Workouts were… well, you’ll see! Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown, and to San for hosting NaBloPoMo- we’re in the home stretch! Here’s how the week went.
Monday
While I was thrilled to have my son home, it did mean that I lost my “yoga studio.” Everyone else in my family was off the whole week, but I had to work on Monday. My husband was trying to luxuriate in bed, but sadly I had to kick him out so I could do yoga. Sorry, but I’m doing my November yoga challenge!
After I got my husband out of the bedroom, I did a 45 minute yoga flow. Last week I did all power yoga classes, and ended up with a sore hip flexor. I didn’t want anything to go wrong for my turkey trot on Thursday, so I did all regular flows this week. All classes were on the Peloton app with Denis Morton as always!
Tuesday
Started the day with a three mile run!
To be honest, Tuesday feels like a lifetime ago and I literally can’t remember anything about this run. I know I ran, and my phone tells me this was Tuesday, so… yeah. I look happy though! Followed this with a 20 minute yoga flow.
The rest of this day was NUTS! It was our prep day for the prep day. In other words, I did a whole bunch of stuff that needed to be done before Wednesday. I made the cornbread for our stuffing, made the dough for four pie crusts, cleaned the kitchen, and rearranged the living room furniture. I had to make room for the Christmas tree! Oh yes, and in the middle of the day my son and I went to Starbucks to get festive drinks for everyone. Super fun day.
Wednesday
As soon as I woke up I did a 45 minute yoga flow. Then… so much to do! We did lots of cooking prep and got our Christmas tree! We didn’t decorate it- just set it up in the living room. So exciting.
At night my son and I watched the first Harry Potter movie. We decided we’ll watch the rest of them when he’s home for Christmas.
Thursday
Thanksgiving! My husband and I were up super early for our Turkey Trot. It was around 64 degrees, which was perfect. Not so perfect if you were shooting for a PR, but perfect for just hanging out and having fun. I ran a mile to warm up, and then the 5k race. It was really fun and I’m so glad I did it. I did have a little pang when I saw people doing a serious warmup, and I missed that feeling. I missed speedwork and I even missed the nervousness of being at a race and hoping to run a PR. I really want to get back there, and I’m going to have a little talk with my doctor when I go for the next shockwave treatment on Tuesday. Meanwhile… I was thankful for being able to run at all. I know it could easily not have been the case, but I was there.
The rest of the day was a whirlwind of cooking and eating. We finished our (large) dinner, went for a walk, and then ate pie. I cleaned the kitchen, threw in a load of laundry… notice anything missing?
My yoga challenge! I hadn’t done yoga. I resigned myself to missing a day, but then thought… I could do a quick class. So I did a 15 minute hamstring focus flow. I’ll be honest. I don’t think I got much out of this class. I tried, but yoga doesn’t feel good with a stomach full of pie. Oh well!
Friday
Another confession. I was pretty cranky about the fact that I had to work on Friday. Everyone else in my family was lounging at home eating leftovers. Because I was feeling rebellious, I slept in until about thirty minutes before I had to go to work. And it felt good!
As soon as I got home from work, we started decorating the Christmas tree. This isn’t simply a matter of taking out a box of ornaments and quickly hanging them- no, no, no! We decorate the whole house. We really wanted to do it this day because my son went back to school on Saturday. It also entailed getting all the fall stuff put away… it was a lot. Luckily we had a crap ton of leftovers, so no one had to cook, phew.
I was well aware that I still needed to do yoga! It clearly wasn’t my main focus though, and I decided to just do the same 15 minute hamstring focus flow that I did the day before- I figured that class definitely needed a do-over. Yep, all I did this day was a 15 minute yoga class. What can I say… it’s the holidays.
Saturday
Boo hoo! My son left. So hard to say goodbye- does it ever get easier? I did a 30 minute yoga flow class and left for work (my husband drove my son to the airport.) My son was also sad to leave- we really had a nice week. But he said “the good thing is I really love school.” WELL! What more could I hope for? He can’t live at home forever, and if he’s happy, that’s the most important thing.
After work my daughter went ice skating with friends which required a bunch of car pooling. And for the rest of the day and evening I vegged out on the couch, reading blogs and watching Holiday Baking Championship on Food Network. It was a mental mini-vacation.
Sunday
Okay, let’s get back to real life! Our temperatures dipped down into the 50s overnight and Sunday morning was crisp, cool and beautiful. It was like a brand-new start after the decadence of the holiday week. I did a five mile run…
And now I’m opening the very last can of pumpkin to make pancakes. There will be lots of cleaning, laundry and finishing the Christmas decorating today! And definitely a yoga class.
Have you recovered from Thanksgiving?
If you celebrate Christmas… are you decorating yet?

I’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! LOL on yoga not going well with a full stomach — I get that for sure! So great you could run a 5K and a 5M today!
We’re goign to put our tree up today — I’m reading blogs to procrastinate. 😉
Ooh! Have fun! I know… it always sounds fun but turns out to be a lot of work. It’s worth it though- the house is so pretty when the tree is up.
I have both of my trees up and all the lights are on (and working!). I got the big 9-foot tree up last Sunday evening (I think?), but I usually take my time getting all the ornaments in place, as well as the other household decorations. I need to check out the yoga on Peloton…believe it or not, I got in a bunch of cycling workouts, but couldn’t find the time to do any other exploring on the app. I did have my first date with Denis, though…#swoon 😉
Ha ha… it’s funny because I’ve been seeing Denis every single day lately, but I’ve never done one of his cycling classes! I forget he does more than yoga.
yes, yoga on a full stomach does not sound good. I am glad I took the extra day off. LOL on having to give up your yoga studio. Saying goodbye to the kids never does get easier I miss mine already. Now you and Kim both love Denis too-I hope there is enough of him to go around 🙂
Ha ha! How could you not love Denis! He just keeps getting better and better.
Wow! I’m tired just reading all that. Congrats on the Turkey Trot, even if it wasn’t quite what you wanted. Also congrats on your son loving college — it most definitely isn’t always the case so that’s awesome.
Yoga on a full stomach definitely isn’t recommended. 🙂 Great job just getting a little bit in, though.
Ha ha, I definitely learned that lesson! I actually though it might be okay because it had been an hour since I finished eating. Nooo, you need more than an hour to digest Thanksgiving dinner.
What a busy week! Things are definitely more low-key here. My hubs is setting up the tree as we speak. I’m not sure if I’ll get the ornaments on today but it will get done this week. I’ll finish up the decorating by the weekend. Since I’m the only one who does it, it’s going to get done when it gets done, lol
I’m impressed with your drive to stick to your yoga challenge! Nice work. I was not happy to work on Friday either. It was really busy!
Getting the lights on the tree is the hardest part. Once that’s done, you can put the ornaments on leisurely.
Yes, we’re always busy on Black Friday. I guess people would rather get a massage than go out shopping!
Too funny about the yoga on a full stomach! I admire you for making the effort 🙂
Looks like you had a fun and busy week! So glad you got to spend time with your son – I too wonder if saying goodbye ever gets easier.
Your tree looks great! We’ll start decorating next weekend.
Someone told me that saying goodbye actually gets harder and harder- not what I wanted to hear!!!
You had a full and very productive week. I am amazed that you got all your yoga in… even 15 minutes is worthwhile!
I have to ask: who takes your running pictures? I always take the same old selfies LOL
Isn’t it amazing how fast a week flies by, especially when we’re enjoying time with loved ones? Sigh. It sounds like a nice holiday though.
Your tree looks wonderful. I was going to get out Christmas stuff this week, but it was so nice and fall-like outside that Jon and I decided to wait until it’s proper winter (= December). 🙂
Ah, I take my own running pictures! I have certain places at the beginning and end of my running routes (and occasionally in the middle) where I set my camera up and take a video. Then I do a screen shot from that. Some are better than others, for sure.
Yes, I can see how you would want to appreciate fall a little longer. We don’t really get seasons here, so we just pretend.
We just put the finishing touches on Christmas decorating today. Still have to put away the vacuum and ladders, but hey, it’s done!! The lights outside look good and the whole family helped out. WIN!! I’m glad you had good time with your son. It was nice to have my daughter home for multiple nights (well, until she stayed out too late with her friends. haha!!) But soon it will be winter break at we get to see them again!! (and you know, I’ll see her again next weekend when do some other Christmas stuff…). Good job on still getting the yoga done!
Yes, I’m already excited about having him home for Christmas! He’ll be here for four weeks, hooray.
One more day of the yoga challenge… I’m almost there.
What a great week! But very busy 🙂 A 5k and a 5 miler! Yay! Glad all is holding up. Great job on the Turkey Trot!
Thank you Jessie! It was a busy AND great week!
Such a busy but great week for you, and I know it must have been extra special to have your son home for the holiday!
Awesome job on the Turkey Trot!
Thank you Kim! It really was extra special.
I did a daily running challenge in September (no minimum) and literally remembered to run one night about 11 am after I was in PJ’s with white noise on and the lights out. I got up and ran laps (in the dark) at the bottom of the bed for a few minutes. It felt ridiculous, but going through the motions to protect a streak is a-okay!
Sounds like a great Thanksgiving with family, good food and lots of fun memories. For the record – I would have been grumpy about working on Friday, too!
That is funny!!! Definitely the equivalent of a 15 minute yoga class after Thanksgiving dinner.
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving: running, racing, cooking, eating, walking. A very busy day!
Your tree looks very beautiful.
We will decorate our house, the garden and the tree on Dec. 8th as every year.
Just out of curiosity, is there a significance to December 8th? It happens to be my son’t birthday!
Your tree looks great! Sounds like a good weekend.
Thanks Nicole! It was a great week.
It sounds like you had a fabulous week with your son home from college! I spent pretty much the entire day on Friday decorating our house, but didn’t have time to put the ornaments on the tree. I got that done on Saturday while watching college football.
I’m so happy to hear that your running is going well!
Thank you Debbie! Yes, decorating really takes a lot of time! I’m feeling guilty now because so many people in our neighborhood have their outdoor lights up- guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!
There’s something about a monthly challenge like your yoga one where you realize how you CAN fit workouts into your life, even on the busiest days! That’s something I need to remember. Maybe I’ll start off January with a 30-day workout challenge! Get me back in the groove.
Nice job on all your workouts on such a busy week!
I didn’t do a challenge for December (I thought about it but then the month started before I could plan anything.) Maybe I’ll do a challenge for January as well.
