walkers walk… but runners fly

26 Years!

Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary! I started the day with a long run…

26 miles for 26 years.

… and then I went home to take a 26-year-long nap. Just kidding, but I did relax in the bed for a LONG time! At night we got takeout and watched The Age of Innocence.

The movie is so good! I thought they did a great job keeping faithful to the book. And Winona Ryder was excellent.

My husband surprised me with some presents (we don’t usually exchange gifts for our anniversary).

LOOK AT THAT MUG! Remember how I said I was looking for a nice, big mug to fit my tea ball? He found a great one!

I thought we did pretty well, considering our anniversary was on a Wednesday. Some years we barely do anything to celebrate, but this year was a fun one

Have you seen the movie of The Age of Innocence? Did you like it as well as the book?

Do you celebrate wedding anniversaries if they fall in the middle of the week like this?

April Runfessions!

The first thing I should runfess is that I seem to have forgotten what month it is. When I went to write

Blah

You guys, I can’t shake off this feeling of… ennui? Listlessness? Those words seem too strong. It’s not like I’m

It’s Earth Week!

Hi there! Once again it’s time for Tuesday Topics, and this week’s prompt is: It’s Earth Week. How do you stay

  1. Happy 26!!! Love the mileage, and love that your husband remembered that you needed a wide mug.

I’m debating whether I want to see Age of Innocence or not. Part of me feels that since the book was a miss, I should move on, another part of me wants to get in on the hype for this story. TBD…

    1. Hmm! Well, I can tell you that my husband enjoyed the movie, and I DON’T think he would like the book. So it might be worth giving it a try?

  2. Okay, Universe, I’m going to have to give in and give Wharton/Age of Innocence a whirl. 🙂
Happy Anniversary! 😀 What a lovely lowkey way to celebrate, sounds like our method, hehe … Ours regularly falls in the middle of the week, and we frequently celebrate by having Olive Garden since we ate that the day we eloped 🙂

    1. You ELOPED!!! How fun! And then you ate Olive Garden… you guys are my kind of people.
Just a warning- a LOT of people in the bloggers book club disliked Age of Innocence… it’s a little slow-moving/borderline boring in parts. But overall I loved it.

  3. Happy Anniversary! Well done to your husband on the surprise gifts! He did great! And congrats on 26 miles! I would want to take a giant nap after that as well.

We are pretty low key about anniversary celebrations. We tried to go on a date last year and the babysitter canceled twice for valid reasons so we gave up after that. Hopefully we can make a date happen this year!

    1. Yes, we often end up doing nothing! March is a really busy month for my husband so a lot of years he’s working during the day and evening on our anniversary. It’s not a big deal to me so it all works out.

  4. What a way to celebrate your anniversary! Many happy returns of the day! That mug is gorgeous – I like a wider mug so my tea cools a little faster,

We don’t do much about anniversaries. My gift this year was a new crown; his gift is buying a bunch of books he wants for classes. Terribly romantic! I did make a chocolate layer cake, his favorite.

    1. Okay, a new crown (I assume you mean for your teeth, not one for you to wear on your head) sounds almost like an anti-gift. Still- if you need it, you need it. Better than being in pain.

  5. Happy anniversary! 26 years is a long time! Congratulations on your amazing marriage! And yes, that mug is perfect!
I don’t think I even know about that Age of Innocence movie but now I want to watch it. I didn’t read the book with the CBBC, but I’m definitely going to watch the movie.

  6. Will this be your last long run before your birthday? Wow, 26 miles is fabulous. Congratulations on your anniversary! We always make a big deal out of ours. Easy because we got married on July 3rd, so we have the next day off. I mean, we don’t have a party or anything, but we take the day off and spend it together, and generally go out for a nice dinner.

I watched The Age of Innocence last week, and I really liked it too! Very much a film of its time, with the spotlight on DDL’s eyes and all. But it was very faithful to the book.

    1. I did another long-ish run the next day, to make it back-to-back, and now that’s it for the long runs! Until my birthday, phew.
You probably didn’t plan it like that specifically, but brilliant idea to get married the day before a holiday!

  7. Happy anniversary! I am once again impressed by the 26 mile long run! And the mug and the tumbler are great gifts that will get used a lot I’m sure.

  8. Happy anniversary! It will be our 24th this year, and also in March! Since Mark’s birthday is the same day, we rarely celebrate on that day, but we do celebrate. Usually in bed! Lol. But also, true. I always wanted to go to Africa for our 25th anniversary, but because of timing, we are going to go this June. So…it will be during our 25th year of marriage? I guess? Anyway, happy happy to you and your husband! Enjoy your new mug, chocolate, and water cup!

    1. WOW, Africa!!! That will be quite a celebration. I am definitely enjoying all three of my presents so far!

  9. Happy Anniversary, Jenny! Amazing job on running a marathon on your anniversary! You are so well prepared for that ultra!
So thoughtful of your husband. Did you get him anything?

    1. I did not get him anything! I didn’t know he was getting me presents! Luckily he liked the movie, since I picked it out- otherwise it would have been a very dull anniversary for him.

  10. happy anniversary!!! what a great way to celebrate it, long run and big mug! Kudos to you and your husband.
we celebrate it low key, no gift exchange usually, but something together, even if it’s cooking lunch at home.

    1. Thank you Coco! Yes, we don’t usually exchange gifts. He just did that impulsively, and he picked well!

  11. Happy anniversary! That mug is absolutely perfect!! It’s nice to do a special celebration sometimes! On our first anniversary we went to a seafood restaurant for dinner and took a nice seafood platter. It was something like 500 SEK/€50 and it was for two people but it turned out it was €50 per person! Ugh! Not an absolutely enormous sum today but it was back then! Now we check menus more in detail. We celebrate 20 years this year but haven’t decided yet how to celebrate.

    1. Ha, we definitely went the frugal route! Our takeout wasn’t anything fancy, and I think we paid $3.99 for the movie (had to get it on Prime since it wasn’t on Netflix).
20 is a big one- Maybe you can splurge again on a seafood platter : )

  12. Happy Anniversary!!!

My daughter has the same colour Stanley and I think it’s so pretty. I love that mug; it looks like it’s a great “hand shape” and will fit comfortably in your hand AND hold plenty of tea.

    What a feel-good post.

My husband and I usually go out for dinner on or around our anniversary, but that’s about it. Aside from Christmas, I’m not a big “celebrator”…but I should get better about doing things to commemorate special moments.

    1. Yes, I’m enjoying my new Stanley. And the mug! We don’t usually do a lot for our anniversary- this was probably the biggest “celebration” we’ve had in a while.
