walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Strength, Mobility, and More!

Hi there! Welcome back to the Weekly Rundown. This was a good week, marred only by sickness in other members of my family. My daughter and her boyfriend both got a stomach virus, and my husband has a bad cold. I’m just waiting to be struck down by one or both of these (maybe I’ll get them both at the same time- that would be fun). However, as Winnie the Pooh said (when Eeyore was trying to veto a picnic on the grounds that it could rain) “Rain isn’t rain until it falls from the sky in drops. Until then, we might as well have fun.” I’m enjoying my good health while it lasts!

Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting. Here’s how the week played out!

Sunday

I did Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series Day #18, glutes. This has hip thrusts in it, but also lunges and some other moves- so it’s not a workout comprised only of 10,000 hip thrusts (like a couple of her other ones). I also got out for a 40 minute walk!

Monday

In the morning- a 4 mile run. That was it for the day!

Tuesday

Ah, it was quite a day. I had to take Sylvie to the vet to be spayed. I was dreading it, but it went well and she’s doing great.

I had to drop her off at 9 am, so couldn’t get out to the trail until 10. I had a HOT 8 mile run- but I enjoyed it.

I mean- look how pretty it is!

Wednesday

In last week’s post, when I mentioned doing an arm workout for the sake of vanity, Susanne reminded me not to neglect shoulders! I listened and obeyed. Caroline Girvan Iron Series Day #15 is a sizzling shoulder workout (her words, not mine). I also got out for a 30 minute walk, just ahead of a thunderstorm.

Thursday

After work I hit the treadmill for a 4 mile run with some speedwork. While I ran I listened to this episode of Everyday Ultra, all about mobility for runners. I was inspired to look up the exercises he talked about, and when I got home I did a hip mobility routine. Maybe this will help my low back?

Friday

Caroline Girvan Iron Series Day #26. I think this is my favorite of her lower body workouts. It’s a circuit of seven exercises that you repeat three times- so it’s not all focused on one thing, but a mix of squats, RDLs, lunges, step ups… highly recommend! I also did my new hip mobility routine.

Saturday

In the morning- a 5 mile run!

This run felt pretty good, and afterwards I tried the new flavor of LMNT, lemonade iced tea. I LOVE IT! I put it in my water bottle with ice water, and sipped on it all day at work.

At night- hip mobility again!

Sunday

Happy Father’s Day! Here’s the card I got my husband:

Hee hee.

As it happens, my daughter is out of town, so we’re having a low-key day. Since my husband is still sick we’re planning to go out to dinner tomorrow or the next day. Also on tap- a full body strength workout. Also… yoga? How did I not do any yoga this week??? Sigh.

How was your week? Do you do any mobility routines?- I have a quick one I do before most runs, but my new moves focus much more on hips.
