walkers walk… but runners fly

A Casual Coffee Date

Yep, there’s my new favorite mug in action! Filled with delicious Earl Grey tea, as usual. If we were having coffee (tea) together, I would tell you that I had a funny dream last night. I immediately relayed it to my son and his fiancee:

Okay, I’ll try to talk about something other than the wedding. My daughter got a new piercing! Ouch. This photo is right after it happened, which is why her ear is so red.

The new one is the bar across the top.

She’s really happy with it, and said it didn’t hurt any more than her other piercings. Again… ouch. I couldn’t even watch.

Let’s talk about RUNNING! I ran today! My hamstring was fine; my hip felt very tight. For now, I’ve decided to treat it the way I do my low back- my back gets achy, but there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t stop getting out of bed or going to work because my back aches. I’ll deal with my hip/hamstring the same way- motion, stretching, strengthening, and Advil. No, just kidding on that last one. No Advil (for now).

Woohoo! I needed this run.

What would you tell me over coffee? Have you had any good dreams lately?

  1. This is funny… on my run today I saw a girl with bright pink hair just like your daughter’s. She was dressed all in black with a grungy look, and as I got closer I caught myself thinking, “She probably has piercings and tattoos too, just to complete the outfit.” And sure enough… she did! 😂
It immediately made me think of your daughter, and I found myself wondering whether she had any tattoos or piercings. Then I opened my feed and saw your post answering that exact question – well, at least the piercing part.
And why not have a race at a wedding? It’s been done before! 😄

    1. Hee hee! Now that’s the kind of wedding I’d be comfortable at!
Angie does not have any tattoos, but she’s talking about it, ugh. And so far no facial piercings, other than the septum (which is… sigh). I can picture her getting a little more… fancy… once she turns 18. SIGH!!!

  2. No good dreams; I try not to remember them as mine are mostly about being lost in a new house. Only you would dream of ultramarathons! Your son’s response is excellent.
If we were sipping drinks ( I’ll take black tea with plenty of sweetener please!), I’d tell you how I’ve gain a ton of weight and that summer hasn’t been fun. ( except granddaughter!). Nothing terrible but just a lot of little stuff and long term expectations. My hopes to do a lot with my daughter came to nothing. I think I need to go back to work. And my son’s band camp starts next week so summer is pretty much over.
Good luck with your assorted aches- don’t pull anything vital before the WEDDING!!!!

    1. Yeah, good point- I definitely don’t want to be limping at the wedding.
I’m sorry your summer has been hard! I want to talk about this more with you at some point…. but- GRANDDAUGHTER. I mean that makes up for a lot, right???

  3. LOL, I like you son’s response!

The problem with running niggles, is it’s hard to tell if it’s something that will work itself out or something that’s building to a breaking point.

I really want to run. ~sigh~

    1. Yes, I agree! Is there really anything wrong??? Maybe I can just run through it… then, SNAP. I’m trying to navigate that tricky area right now.

  4. Wait, why no Advil? Did I miss something?
Your daughter’s piercing looks great! It’s a really cool look.
Hahahaha that would…not be the best bachelorette party. I mean, in my opinion. I’m sure if someone threw you a bachelorette party back in the day and it was an ultramarathon you would have been all in! And it seems like Catrina would have been all in too!

    1. Ha, I kind of want to go back and do it all again- I would have an awesome bachelorette running party! Oh, and I’m not opposed to Advil- I’m still taking it at night to help me sleep occasionally. I just don’t want to start taking it to mask a potential running injury. If my hip is bothering me next week I’ll probably take it- I don’t want anything to distract me from the wedding fun.

  5. I’m so happy that you’re back to running! Stay in line Hamstring!

Look, you may not get a lot of business as a bachlorette/bridal shower planner, but it was a very cool dream. C’mon they could at least do a 5k with you!

  6. OH MY GOODNESS. Jenny, a wedding race would be hilarious. I bet, as Catrina said, it is has definitely been done before.

Love the mug. And I’m so glad you’re back to running. I know it makes a big difference in how you feel and everything is slightly off-kilter as long as running’s not an option.

SECOND OH MY GOODNESS… THE WEDDING IS SOON. I am so, so excited for you and the family.

I love your daughter’s piercing! I think it looks great and very “her.”

I can’t remember, but I feel like you don’t even have pierced ears? I’ve stopped at one, but my daughter is getting geared up to get a second piercing soon.

    1. I don’t have ANY piercings! I definitely felt out of place at the piercing place, ha. They made me come in to the room while they pierced my daughter, and I had to look away the whole time. I told them “I don’t like needles and holes in my body.”
I’ve definitely heard of people getting married in the middle of a trail race, or at the finish line. Now THAT would be a cool wedding!

  7. Yay for getting back to running! And I think doing an ultra with members of the wedding party and guests would be a really fun thing, well, at least for people who like ultras!

    1. Yeees…. I think it would be fun. Think of what a bonding experience it would be! I’m pretty sure it would be hard to get others on board though.

  8. A wedding ultra. LOL. I started my wedding day by going for a 5k run with my younger sister. It was the best way to start the day! We ran by the church and took a selfie in front of it to mark the start of an epic day. A few weeks ago, a big group of people took an OTF class with a bride that was getting married that day. They had beaded necklaces and the bride wore a white tulle tutu for part of the class. The coach had a special playlist with some wedding-themed songs. It was fun to be an outside observer!

If we had coffee I’d probably whine about the smokey air that moved into Minnesota this week. We had to avoid being outdoors which is a real drag since life is more pleasant when the boys can be outside playing after dinner. We ended up going to the library last night and saw so many different friends so that was fun!

    1. Oh, that OTF wedding morning class sounds FUN! Honestly- what better way to start the day. You’ll feel good, and get some of the nerves out. I’m planning to go for a short run the morning of the wedding- I’ll have a better day if I start that way.
Yes, I know all about your smoke! Apparently it’s really bad in Chicago as well. Um… I hope this is all cleared out by next weekend??? Well, for your sake I hope it’s cleared up sooner so you can get outside again!

  9. I think a run or 5k before the wedding would be so fun… not happening in my family. lol
    Ouch on the piercing!!!!!!!!!!

I’m treating my achilles like you… the paiin is bearable and worse to not run. Now the calf (the other one) is tight… grrr

Good news? 6 miles before work – yeah!

    1. Wow, that IS good news! Yes- not running wasn’t helping, so we might as well run, while continuing to rehab our areas. And I know- that ear, it just looks so painful. She took it in stride.

  10. Your daughter’s piercing looks so cool! I found that healing my cartilage piercing was REALLY HARD compared to literally any other piercing I’ve ever had. Make sure she’s washing her pillowcases MULTIPLE TIMES A WEEK and that if she wears hats (which would be weird in Florida, but you never know) that they are clean. I feel like I missed the memo on making sure anything that touched my piercing was as clean as possible. And, of course, she should keep on on her saline rinses. I know she knows this because she already has so many piercings, but I swear I had so much trouble with that one that I need to evangelize about hygiene.

I have so many dreams about a guy I went to high school with who I literally have not seen since 1997. Like…what is happening in my brain?

    1. The piercer said this one takes the longest to heal. She’s used to the cleaning protocol, but that’s good advice about the pillowcase. She does not wear hats! She also can’t go into the ocean or a pool for two months. She doesn’t care, but it all seems like a huge hassle to me.

      1. Oh, it looks so cool, though. Yes, of course healing tattoos and piercings are a hassle, but it’s worth it in the end. I’m Angie’s ally in this one! (Oh, further encouragement for her to rinse it out if she sweats a lot – at the gym or just going outside in the Florida mugginess. Keep that bad boy clean!)

  11. Your daughter’s hair is so vibrant and gorgeous! And I LOVE her piercing! I could never because I would play with it and something would absolutely get stuck, but I want something up in that region (without the bar).

Hilarious that “this is why you’re not planning the bach or bridal shower” That’s too funny!

    One more week!

  12. I’m so glad you are back running again, and I hope your hip behaves and you are able to continue to do so. I hope the smoke clears up before you go to Chicago, but if it doesn’t, no running outside! Very dangerous for your lungs and heart.

So excited for you! (And your son, of course)

  13. That dream is so Jenny-coded! HAHAHA. And not just a race, an ultramarathon! Hilarious.

I’m glad you can run again after your hiatus. That would be like me not being able to read or something! The horror!

I loooove Angie’s new piercing. I really want to get another ear piercing, so that’s a someday project!
