For the first time in ten years, I have a summer work schedule! Usually I just keep to the same schedule year-round, but this year I decided to switch things up.
The good news is, I won’t be working on Tuesdays, which means I have Tuesday and Wednesday off! The bad news is…. to make up for it, I’ve added Saturday hours. Instead of working 9-1 on Saturdays, I now work 9-5.
I mean- that’s kind of bad news but not really tragic. I’ll miss my Saturday afternoon nap and trip to the gym, but I don’t mind the thought of pushing through a long work day. I’ll come home, take a short nap and then obviously have my reward (Chipotle and Coke Zero). Then I’ll stay up late reading.

Who else is reading/has read this book??? I’m really enjoying it! To be honest, the premise sounded kind of dumb. Let’s see, a phony-baloney trad-wife influencer somehow goes back in time to the 1800s, where she’s forced to live a REAL pioneer existence, no doubt learning valuable lessons and becoming a more authentic person.
No, there’s so much more to it! I’m only about 100 pages in, so I can’t really speak about the plot (but so far, so good). I love the writing style. At first the main character was someone you “love to hate,” but as we get further in, her snarky internal monologue is actually making me kind of like her. Anyway… more about this book when I finish it (which could be tomorrow night).
Sunday! There’s not much on the agenda. I’ll sleep in, read blogs, do some grocery shopping, and go to the gym where I will FINISH Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series! Woohoo!
My daughter is done with school- actually done, not just in her mind- and my husband is done except for a few days of professional development. And for the first time ever I have a summer work schedule! Let the summer weekend begin!
Do you have plans for the weekend?
Who has read Yesteryear? – Every time I write that title, I accidentally write “Yesterday” and have to go back and change it.

Yay! Enjoy your summer schedule, I think it’s going to be great for you!
I read Yesteryear, and I really liked it. I don’t want to say too much since you’re still reading.
I finished it last night!!! We can discuss!
I need to read that book, so much buzz, glad to hear you like it.
we will have a summer schedule and i’m looking forward to it.
This is a book that, for me, definitely lived up to all the hype. I REALLY enjoyed it.
I loved Yesteryear for the same reason that you’re starting to feel – the main character was so unlikeable that I liked her! I can’t wait until you finish so that we can talk about it.
Congrats on the “End of the School Year According to School” as opposed to the “End of the School Year According to Your Daughter”. Rising Senior FTW!
Your summer schedule sounds pretty great.
Yes, good thing the school and my daughter are now in alignment! Now I just have to prepare myself for a heart attack when I see her grades.
Your summer schedule sounds great! I would love to have 3 days off a week and it would be nice to have them all in a row but it would also be good to have two in a row and then another one on its own like you have so you never have more than 3 days in a row of working.
I think I like this better than having three in a row- two in a row is great, then a push through three days of work and then another day off. We’ll see how it works out, but I’m optimistic right now.
Congrats on completing Iron! I’ve enjoyed reading your daily posts this month. One thing I really admire about you is that if you say you are going to do something, you do it. Even if you hit bumps in the road, you always do your best! Enjoy your weekend!
Oh, thank you Melodie!!! That’s a nice thing to hear! I do like to hold myself accountable, because really- my life isn’t that hard. I don’t have small kids anymore and I don’t work crazy hours, or travel for work. A lot of people have all those things- THEY have an excuse for not following through on challenges. I really don’t.
I just finished the audiobook of Yesteryear. I really liked it!! I didn’t have a clue what it was about other than something about a tradwife and influencer, so the majority of the plot was a complete surprise. I don’t read very far into a book’s blurb, just like I never watch the whole movie trailer on YouTube. I like to be surprised by a story (whereas my husband figures out the plot of a movie before it’s halfway done).
Great job on finishing the CG series! Like you mentioned a few days ago, I do not care for the repetitiveness of the workouts. I had to search out one that was labeled “abs no repeat”.
Have a great weekend!
Yes- I also didn’t read to far in the book’s blurb, so the plot took so many twists and turns that I had no idea about. It was fun to read AND I couldn’t wait to find out what the heck was actually going on. I stayed up way too late last night to finish it.
Sometimes it’s good to change up a schedule that one’s been on forever and forever. It’ll be insteresting and two weekdays off sounds amazing! Let us know how it goes!
I’m thinking I’ll really like the two days off- too bad I’m not training for a big race tight now, I could be doing back-to-back long runs with these days! As it is, I’m trying to figure out how to schedule my time off so I feel like I can have a combination of relaxation and getting things done.
It seems like a second day off is a good trade for a few more hours on Saturday — hopefully you end up feeling that way too.
I read Yesterday and did enjoy it, but think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn’t going into it expecting here to “somehow go back in time to the 1800s, where she’s forced to live a REAL pioneer existence.” Let’s chat after you finish it!
I feel like I could have a book club about Yesteryear! I guess that’s the sign of a good book, when you feel like there’s a lot to discuss.
I think I also liked Yesteryear 100 pages in, but I ended up really disliking it overall. I can’t wait to hear your take!
LOOOOVED Yesteryear. One of my faves of the year. Natalie is someone I loved to hate!
That is exciting that you’ll get two whole days off during the week! Yes, it sucks to work a full day on Saturdays, but I hope the change is a good one for you!
Yesteryear drew me in and I loved it for the first half of the book! Then I grew more and more disappointed as it went on, and closed the book feeling frustrated and maybe a little bit betrayed! I’m interested to hear what you thought of it if you have now finished it?
I’m not sure if I really ever went into detail on how I felt about the book. I really liked it, including the ending. I wish we could have an in-person book club to discuss it!
