Helloooo! Welcome to the Weekly Rundown, hosted as always by Kim and Deborah. (Thanks, ladies!) Nothing groundbreaking this week- I’m inching my way towards the end of Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series. I had some solid runs, and a little yoga. My wrist is all better! Thanks for all the suggestions- I always forget that if I have a problem with something, odds are other people do too, and there are solutions. I have my eye on yoga jellies, but there are other options as well for wrist supports. Who knew??? Anyway, here’s how the week played out…
Sunday
Iron Series Day #26- legs. I did this workout in the gym and it’s one I’ll definitely go back to. It’s a circuit of seven exercises repeated three times. It’s hard- think lunges, squats, step ups- but not tedious, and moves along quickly.
Monday
Memorial Day! I had to work, but there was no school so I was able to wake up at a reasonable hour and run 4 miles in the morning.

Later in the day I did Adriene’s yoga for back pain.
Tuesday
I started my new summer schedule of no work on Tuesdays (yay!) so went to the gym mid-morning. I’m trying to figure out the least crowded times, and 11 am was pretty decent. I did Iron Series Day #27, upper body. Another workout that I enjoyed!
Later in the day I got out for a 30 minute walk.
Wednesday
Another day off, so after getting my daughter to school I went for a 5 mile run.

Later in the day I walked for over an hour while talking to my son! Lots of wedding talk- less than two months away now.
Thursday
ARRRG. I did Iron Series Day #28, and this was one I had been dreading- GLUTES. I previewed it, and knew it was going to be another painful workout of 10,000 hip thrusts. I just gritted my teeth and got through it. NEVER AGAIN!
This was also the last day of school! My runs have officially moved back to mornings now. It’s way too hot to run in the afternoon.
Friday
Because I did the glutes workout later in the day, I was able to get in a 4 mile run BEFORE the DOMS really set it.

Later in the day- Iron Series Day #30. I know- what happened to #29? I had to switch them up. Day #29 is full body, and my glutes weren’t ready. Day #30 was arms and abs, and it was a good one to do at home. It felt a little weird to “finish” the series, knowing I wasn’t really done, but that’s okay. At the end of this (the last) workout, Caroline’s dogs come out to celebrate with her, and it’s SO CUTE! Almost makes you forget about all the pain you endured for the past two months.
Saturday
Crazy thing- the DOMS from my workout on Thursday had finally set in, and my legs felt HORRIBLE! I can say that workout was effective- every single muscle in my glutes was screaming at me. 3 plodding miles.

At night- Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. I didn’t do enough yoga this week, and I missed it.
Sunday
On tap for today- FINISHING THE IRON SERIES. I’ll do Day #29 in the gym. Yay!
How was your week? Is it summer for you yet? – School is over and we’ve started out hot, humid, rainy season…. so it’s definitely summer here.

Congratulations on finishing the exercise series! When you set a goal, you give it your all! You have such determination.
Summer has mostly set in here- kids out of school, trying to figure out a routine. And my hs graduate seems to be doing okay at his job; I have to stop treating him like a clueless 12 yr old and remember he’s now 18.
We have made it to the pool several times- some hot afternoons- but the pool water isn’t very warm yet so my skinny boys get cold pretty quickly. And I keep forgetting my hat, so we can’t stay long. Next week will be better.
Yes, it just sounds like you need to figure out a routine- and the pool needs to get warmer! Good for your HS graduate- I wish my daughter were doing “okay” at a job She had a job but doesn’t anymore (eye roll) and is in the process of finding another one. Sigh.
Great job this week! Real DOMS are the worst–a couple of weeks ago, we did some dumbbell pullovers at the gym, and my triceps were screaming for about 5 days. I guess I need to do them more.
I didn’t realize the wedding was so soon! Is he getting married in Chicago or Florida?
Neither! Indiana- but it’s Valparaiso, so close to Chicago. It’s where her parents live.
Dumbbell pullovers are SO HARD. And the “delayed” part of DOMS is real for me! It can take about 24 hours to set in, and will last for a while.
Yay! You are so close to being done with CG! The glute workouts were definitely the hardest for me! They were not my fave.
The boys are in school until 6/10 so it’s not quite summer here but it feels like it! We’ve had 80-90 degree temps this week and I am here for it! We had such a terribly cold spring. I am ready for sunshine and warmth for a change!! It’s so much easier to entertain the boys when we can be outside for long stretches of time!
Yes, summer will be MUCH easier! Of course if it’s too hot then you need water- but I’m sure you have access to pools and water parks.
Seriously. WHY do we need to do all these hip thrusts IN ONE WORKOUT. It was just two or three workouts in the series, but it made me not want to do the whole series again.
Those lower body workouts with the heavy weights are tough but I always feel so accomplished afterwards. I actually like feeling sore reminds me of how hard I’ve worked. Great week all around !
That is true- if I’m not sure then I feel like I didn’t work hard enough. Luckily that’s not a problem with the CG workouts!
Yay for almost being finished with the Caroline Girvane’s Iron Series (you may have already completed it since I’m not reading and commenting until almost 9 AM. It’s great that you’ve bookmarked the ones you loved and felt were most effective so you can rotate them through your workouts as needed!
It must feel good that school is out and your days are more relaxed! I don’t think the kids get out of school here until the third week of June…
Wow, your schools end late. But i’m sure they start late too- we go back mid-August.
i’m not done yet- my gym visit is scheduled for late afternoon. But I’ll get it done. Phew.
GAH! The glute workouts!!! NEVER AGAIN. I don’t think I was hitting the right muscles, so those workouts mainly made me feel that I was doing something weird and they were very tedious. I don’t remember disliking any of the full body workouts, so I’m sure you’ll have a blast today.
Yah for the official start of summer! Some folks say that it’s June 21st, but runners know better. It’s “the day when you have no morning family obligations (aka end of school) and daylight comes early enough that you don’t feel like you’re working the night shift”.
Yes, it’s definitely summer. I think there’s some other “summer” definition- meteorological summer maybe?- that starts June 1st.
I agree- not only are those glute workouts painful and boring, but also something feels weird about them. I think it’s because you’re hitting muscles you don’t usually work, which I guess is a good thing. I’m definitely not dreading the full body workout- it looks like a good one.
Good news on school being out.
I’m in awe of how you run so much and work out. That’s why you look so fit.
In the 40s in the mornings. Hit or miss with summer temps.
40s????? Eek. Although… I wouldn’t mind that. Better than hot and humid, which is what our mornings are now.
YAY FOR FINISHING THE IRON SERIES! that is amazing – so crazy. And yay for summer! I am also looking forward to summer – once school ends I can get outside a little later. It’s already getting light here by around 5:30 so I’ve started enjoying my summer running routes and it has made such a difference in my mood. I love it!
Wow it gets light early there! We don’t get light till about 6, but that’s okay- I don’t want to get up before 6 in the summer anyway.
I feel like it’s been summer for a month already. It’s so weird having three adults in the house with different schedules and plans.
And it’s hot. Stupid hot.
But on we go!
Yep, stupid hot. As you said- on we go.
How exciting to almost be done with the Iron Series! And yay for summer so you don’t have to worry about a school schedule.
School got out before Memorial Day here but the weather is still pretty mild for AZ standards, it was only in the 80s yesterday which is unheard of for late May so I took advantage of being able to sleep in and start my long run at 10:30 and got in 13 miles that felt pretty good and not too hot. It’s gonna warm up here this week though so the mild spring may be over. It was nice while it lasted though! June is typically our hottest month so I’m mentally preparing myself for that.
First of all, THANK YOU for all the comments on my posts this month, even though I have not been commenting on your blog. I really appreciate it and apologize for being so AWOL for so long.
I’m excited that you’re finishing up Iron Series. Impressed you finished it even though you weren’t really feeling it. That can be hard! Strength training is hard when you want to do it, it’s almost impossible when you aren’t excited to get started, or finish.
I’m also interested in Yoga Jellies now!
I’m jelly that your daughter is done. I laughed out loud at the line about your daughter’s school finally actually being done, even though she’s been acting like it was done for a while now. My daughter finished finals but still has 8 more days of school because of the strike (they added on the five days that were missed). It’s so stupid. The teachers at the high school are actively telling students not to come. They can’t really change the grading period since people made travel plans based on the original calendar and while they could put together a cool project for kids to work on for that week, it doesn’t sound like anyone is doing that. It’s a little better at the middle school, because there aren’t finals to signal when the year should have ended and it sounds like some teachers are using the time to actually do something.
I hope you have a fabulous summer, and that you like your new schedule, and that your son’s wedding is a huge success!
It’s a LONG summer. Memorial Day was the earliest it could be and Labor Day is the latest it can be. I’m PUMPED to be warm and cozy and not have to worry about what shoes I’m going to wear for entire months. Our students have been gone for weeks, but it’s first year orientation season and so now my work life is stupid busy. That’s okay, though, because my boss expects us all to just leave after orientation is over on those days, so that’s a nice early out. Also, I’ve officially started getting to work closer to 8:30 than 8 and no one has said a word. SUMMER HOURS, BABY. Wait, I’ve forgotten the question. Yes, summer has started. I’m wearing sandals and clocking in late. (I don’t clock in.)
So impressed by how much you get done in a week exercise wise while also working. I need to take it as a sign that I have no excuse for doing a short exercise plan each week! My daughter is giving up her after school job for Summer because we are gone for three weeks and it is hard to find a job that is willing to give up three weeks. So, she is also looking for a job, but not starting until August. She likes to spend the money, so I’m not sure how this Summer is going to go for her. :0
It definitely felt like summer today! I wasn’t able to get out until late morning, then again mid-afternoon…and it was hot and mucho humid. Of course, I love the heat, but my (stupidly chosen) cotton tank was a saturated mess when I finished. Nice job finishing the Series! That’s a big accomplishment!
I’m excited for your 4 day work weeks, you will love it. I have had 3 day weekends (mine are consecutive though) since summer of 2022, and we thought we had to go back to a 5 day work week last year and I HATED IT. I didn’t so much mind working on Friday, my husband and daughter both work on Fridays, but the weekend went SO FAST. I said, “HOW DO YOU PEOPLE DO THIS???” Thankfully it was only one week. Whew!
I’m glad you’ve finished the Iron series, and know which workouts you enjoy and which ones you don’t. Maybe you can just rotate those?
That sounds like a great walk with all of the wedding talk! Is he taking an active role in the planning, or is his fiancee doing most of it? I am heading to a family wedding in two weeks. I haven’t been to a wedding in forever! I hope I’m dressed appropriately for it.
That glute workout sounds really tough. Kudos to you for being committed to the whole series. Will you be picking another strength training plan up until the wedding?
Enjoy your new work schedule and summer mornings! It’s nice to switch things up a bit.
Two months. So exciting
I don’t know how you do Florida summer Truly
Enjoy the bonus day off!
Very nice week! Well done getting through the iron series, and mixing in some running too despite those 10 000 hip thrusts and more, way to go. Do you feel any stronger now after doing this? I know that takes more than a month but if you have increased the strength training load perhaps you could already feel it in your body.
I was thinking of something regarding your wrist – do you know what the problem is? Perhaps strengthening them can help? Tight & weak shoulders can affect wrists and cause pain, as well as working on forearm strength, but this assumes it’s a soft tissue problem, not a joint problem.
